Coffee At Bridge Classic Cars

Attached to the Bridge Classic Cars Workshop is our studio/competition room/showroom building. As this explanation is something of a long-winded one, we recently renamed this building The Atelier at Bridge Classic Cars.

The Atelier has been undergoing quite a lot of change recently with a new bar being installed (which officially opened at our Festive Live Draw in December) and new furniture arriving. Our plans for The Atelier aren’t finished yet though as, today, we had a visit from Dan from Rijo42 – the leading supplier of commercial coffee machines, coffee beans and coffee ingredients in the UK.

Dan showed us a beautiful coffee machine that made some great-tasting coffee.

A coffee machine like this will be an important part of The Atelier at Bridge Classic Cars. We may be a classic car restoration company but we are also all about community, friendship, enjoyment, and sharing our passion with others.

Now we have seen this coffee machine in action, it likely won’t be too much longer before you can come and enjoy a cup of coffee with your friends, family, and the team here at Bridge Classic Cars.

The Late Queen Elizabeth’s 1953 Land Rover Series I Is Going To Auction

Late Queen Elizabeth’s 1953 Land Rover Series I, originally delivered to Her Majesty at the Balmoral estate, is going to auction with a guide price of £100 000 – £150 000.

It has recently been restored to an extremely high standard, with King Charles III rumoured to have helped fund the restoration after recognising the vehicle a few years ago.

Queen Elizabeth II received the Land Rover at Balmoral in 1953. It was later purchased by its former owner in 1966 who ended up storing it for a number of years. During its time in storage, its condition deteriorated until a complete restoration was needed.

Now fully restored, the Land Rover is in exceptional condition. It still features its production chassis number despite being considered a ‘pre-production build’ that was made specifically for the Royal Family. The original features of this very special vehicle include some unique options that you won’t find on any other similar model, including twin rear doors.

Sales Director of Silverstone Auctions, (who will be auctioning the Land Rover), Rob Hubbard said that

“It’s not often that a vehicle with such impressive Royal provenance like this is offered publicly for sale.  Its special features and Royal connections make it exceptionally interesting. This Land Rover would doubtless have been used extensively on the Balmoral estate where we know the Royals loved to picnic. It would have been a familiar and much-loved part of Her Majesty and Prince Philip’s private lives.”

If its Royal connections weren’t enough, the 1953 Land Rover Series I has also featured on BBC’s Antiques Roadshow and led the Land Rover parade during the jubilee celebrations earlier this year. As the jubilee celebrations were watched by billions, Silverstone Auctions believes that this is “probably one of the most photographed Land Rovers in the world”

The Auction – Queen Elizabeth’s 1953 Land Rover Series I

The auction for the late Queen Elizabeth’s 1953 Land Rover Series I will be held at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire on the 24th – 26th of February.

Although the guide price is £100 000 to £150 000, this special vehicle will likely sell for much more than this. The last vehicle with royal connections sold by Silverstone Auctions was Princess Diana’s Ford Escort RS Turbo which sold for the world record price of £650 000 in August.

2 Daimlers Together From The Start

It’s not every day that we get to see two classic Daimlers. It’s even more rare to see two classic Daimlers that are the same model with sequential number plates. It’s even rarer still to see two Daimlers like this that belong to a husband and wife.

That’s exactly the story behind the two latest additions to the Bridge Classic Cars workshop. Our 2 1964 Daimler V8s have come from a married couple who bought them in two separate purchases but ended up with two almost identical cars.

With number plates reading WVG 564 and WVG 565, these 1964 Daimler V8s seemed destined to follow each other throughout life. When one was purchased by the couple, residing in Lowestoft, they fell in love with it and decided they wanted another.

When their second purchase was complete, they saw how similar the two cars were. It seems fitting that these two cars, so close in registration, ended up with a married couple for most of their lives.

After being put into a garage many years ago, both of the cars will need lots of attention before they resemble anything close to their former glory. However, the story behind them is an interesting one that you won’t hear too often.

The Daimler V8 250 is a luxury classic car very similar to a Jaguar MKII and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for these two cars that seem destined to be together.

Talking Classics – Something New From Bridge Classic Cars

We recently launched a brand new feature on the Bridge Classic Cars website called Talking Classics.

As this is a new (and quite different) project for us, you might have some questions regarding what it is all about.

Here’s everything you need to know about it:

What Is Talking Classics?

Talking Classics is a weekly feature where we sit down and have a conversation with interesting and inspiring individuals and talk to them about their lives, their projects, and, of course, classic cars.

This is a feature that allows you to delve into these conversations and learn all about our incredible guests.

Our list of guests is constantly growing and we love talking to a wide range of people. Guests will include race drivers, TV personalities, classic car restorers, brand representatives, and anyone else who has an interesting story to tell, a love of cars, and a willingness to share their experiences with others.

We love meeting interesting people almost as much as we love classic cars. So our guest list is varied to say the least!

Are They Just Written Versions Of Conversations?

Mostly yes but we also have a range of filmed conversations with special guests from time to time.

Our guests are extremely busy people so it’s not possible for all of them to take time out of their schedules to film a conversation with us. However, we love showing you the conversations as they happen so, wherever possible, Talking Classics will feature filmed conversations too.

How Often Do New Conversations Get Released?

A new Talking Classics conversation will be live on the Bridge Classic Cars website every Friday. These will be shared on our social media platforms too.

Where Can I Read Past Conversations?

All conversations with our guests can be found here.

Just Arrived – 1972 Rover P6 3500S

We recently welcomed another new arrival to the Bridge Classic Cars workshop in the form of our 1972 Rover P6 3500S.

This is the manual and most sought-after version of this classic car and it was truly advanced for its time.

With suspension and bodywork superior to anything else on the market at the time of its release, our P6 3500S really is an impressive vehicle.

Not only is it a luxurious car but it is also fast too so this is certainly one vehicle that is proving very popular in the workshop.

Our 1972 Rover P6 3500S takes its place as part of our collection of competition cars that will be won through Bridge Classic Cars Competitions very soon.

Before entry opens, it will go through a full inspection and assessment with our team of classic car technicians. Once they are satisfied, it won’t be long before a new owner is found at one of our live draws early next year.

Following a covid led hiatus, this event returned with gusto last year and was another great success.

The team here at Bridge Classic Cars can not wait to see all the cars in convoy.

An Evening With Ed Stafford

You can read all about our very successful Evening With Ed Stafford here.

An Evening with Ed Stafford is now sold out! We can’t wait to welcome an audience to The Atelier.

You can still be involved as there is still time to enter into the competition for your chance to WIN Ed Stafford’s 2015 Land Rover Defender.

Ed Stafford is an adventurer, explorer, and well-known TV personality. Ed is the first man to walk the length of the Amazon River from source to sea, with his epic expedition concluding on 9th August 2010. It took Ed 860 days of trekking to complete the journey cementing his rightful place in the record books.

After the Discovery Channel made a documentary of Ed’s Amazon adventure, he also wrote a book telling the story of his experience.

Since then, Ed Stafford has survived completely alone on an uninhabited island, lived on the streets of the UK, and competed against some of the world’s best survival experts in his catalogue of TV shows and documentaries.

Recently, Ed has been featured in the news for a more personal reason – his 2015 Land Rover Defender 110 was stolen and stripped of many of its components. Ed has been working hard to rebuild his Land Rover and we are helping him out with this too!

Take a look at some of our highlight gallery below:

On Saturday 25th March 2023, Ed Stafford joined us on stage at The Atelier.

On the night, Ed shared the stories of his achievements and experiences. Our Atelier audience had the opportunity to get to know Ed and learn more about his life, adventures, and his Land Rover.

There was also a question and answer section of the evening where we will delved deeper into Ed’s life and offered the audience the opportunity to ask their own questions.

Doors opened at 7 pm ready for the evening to commence at 7:45 pm

The Atelier Bar was be open for drinks. There was the opportunity for you to view some of the rare and unique classic cars we are currently working on in the Bridge Classic Cars workshop.

March Mini Madness – Live Draw

Back by popular demand, the Bridge Classic Cars Competitions live draw in front of a studio audience, and this time we were celebrating the iconic Mini.

The doors opened at 6 pm so you our friends could enjoy some food and drink while listening to incredible live music before the live stream of the draw started at 7 pm.

Check out our highlights gallery from the event:

The Live Draw

On the night, we held the live draw of our 1979 Austin Morris Mini 850. This is a beautiful classic Mini so make sure you get your ticket as it would be so exciting to have the lucky winner in the room with us.

Of all the cars manufactured in the history of motoring, very few have managed to unite so many people as the classic Mini. Steve McQueen, Mick Jagger, and even Enzo Ferrari have all owned classic Minis and now you could too.

These iconic little cars have never been reserved for only the super wealthy or those with celebrity status. Classic Minis are a car for everyone and offer an extremely fun car to drive while still being easy to maintain with low running costs.

Our 1979 Austin Morris Mini 850 had a full repaint in the Bridge Classic Cars workshop helping to make this one of the best-presented Minis we have ever had as a competition car

Entertainment

We are very excited to have the amazing Annika Rands with us in The Atelier at Bridge Classic Cars for March Mini Madness.

Annika has performed professionally all over the world, from a cabaret show in Turkey to sailing and singing to thousands of guests every night onboard cruise ships.

Food

There will be a range of delicious pizzas available throughout the evening, provided by Piccolo Pizza Box.

Piccolo Pizza Box looks great against the backdrop of classic cars as all pizzas are made within a converted vintage horse box. Wood-fired, stone-baked pizzas are always extra tasty so we are looking forward to welcoming them to Bridge Classic Cars.

Drink

The Atelier bar will be open for drinks for the duration of the event. With a selection of beers and spirits, we are sure you’ll find something you like. There will also be coffee and hot chocolate available from the bar too. Please note: we can only accept card payments.

Preparing Our 1973 Triumph TR6

Our 1973 Triumph TR6 will soon be available to win through Bridge Classic Cars Competitions. Before it goes live though, a few points were highlighted in its initial assessment that need to be addressed.

Classic car technician Chris wasted no time in resolving the small areas of paintwork that needed attention.

After spending a bit of time in the Bridge Classic Cars Paintshop, our beautiful TR6 looks great and is one step closer to being ready to be won by whoever its lucky new owner will be.

Winners Of Our Bonus Draw

As our 1991 Maserati Bi-Turbo Spyder E sold out so quickly and was drawn a week earlier than scheduled, we thought we would host a bonus draw last night (8th December).

We all had a lot of fun at the impromptu draw and we gave away some very cool prizes.

The bonus draw was a bit different to our regular live draws. Everyone who had purchased a ticket for either our 1985 Ferrari Mondial or our 2005 Aston Martin DB9 were automatically entered into the bonus draw.

Everyone eligible to enter was given a unique ticket number and the winners were selected, as usual, by the Google random number generator.

The prizes on offer were:

  • Double your odds – however many tickets you have purchased for our current live competitions will be doubled.
  • A Bridge Classic Cars T-Shirt
  • £250 site credit which can be spent on any current or future competition

As it’s Christmas soon, we were extra generous and offered people watching the draw live on our Facebook page the opportunity to win a free 12-month VIP membership too. All they had to do was comment during the draw and tag a friend in order for them both to become Bridge Classic Cars VIPs.

The Winners

The double your odds winner was Roy Franklin with ticket number 10327

The winner of a Bridge Classic Cars t-shirt was Jonathon Shute with ticket number 13838

£250 site credit was won by Charles Murray with ticket number 14107

Our VIP memberships were won by Jof Harrison and his friend Charles Gumley who Jof tagged in his comment.

Congratulations to all of our lucky winners! If you didn’t win anything in our bonus draw last night, entry for our 1985 Ferrari Mondial and our 2005 Aston Martin DB9 is still open so make sure you get your tickets and you could win one of these stunning cars in time for Christmas.

Drive It Day 2023

Highlights of Drive It Day can be seen here.

Bridge Classic Cars are pleased to be hosting a Drive It Day on Sunday 23rd April 2023.

National Drive It Day was created by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs in 2005. It celebrates the 65 cars that attempted to drive 1000 miles from London to Edinburgh and back again in 1900 to prove the viability of the motor car.

This epic journey began on 23rd April 1900 and ended on 12th May 1900 when 35 of the original 65 cars that began the journey successfully arrived back in London.

National Drive It Day has become even more than a celebration of this mammoth undertaking. It is now an event where classic and historic vehicle enthusiasts can get together to not only share memories and experiences of their own classic vehicles but also raise money for the NSPCC too.

More information on the origins of the event can be seen here.

The drive will begin at our secure storage facility, The Hangar, located at Bentwaters Parks – a former military air base. There will be time to have a coffee, talk to other enthusiasts, and admire all of the special vehicles in attendance. At noon, we will travel, in convoy, covering a 7-mile scenic route to our workshop in Pettistree, Woodbridge. Here we will have live music from The Buskateers, food from Otis Breading and Suffolk Fried Chicken, and The Atelier Bar will be open until 3 pm.

Commemorative rally plates can be purchased from the official Drive It Day website with the money raised from the purchase providing vital funding for Childline.

An Amphicar Comes To Bridge Classic Cars

It’s not every day that you get to see an amphibious car up close. However, we were lucky enough to do just that when a 1964 Amphicar 7-70 came to visit the Bridge Classic Cars workshop recently.

This is a very interesting car and it will likely be returning to us very soon so we can complete some work on it for its owner.

Seeing interesting vehicles like this in the workshop is always exciting so we look forward to welcoming this 1964 Amphicar 7-70 back very soon.

Saying Goodbye (Again) – 1972 Chevron B20

It doesn’t seem that long ago that we first said goodbye to our 1972 Chevron B20. There was a mix of emotions felt when it left as this is a special classic car that we don’t usually see in the workshop. That being said, we were excited to see it move on to the next stage of its adventure.

When it returned to us last month, we were happy to have it back in the workshop and our team of classic car technicians were very keen to get their hands on this incredible car one more time.

Although its time with us was short, our 1972 Chevron B20 was stripped and underwent checks for asbestos here at Bridge Classic Cars before being given the all-clear to continue with the plans to move it to Victoria, Australia.

The F2 race car was collected from our secure storage facility, The Hangar, and set off for the next stage of its epic journey to the other side of the world.

Even when being loaded into the back of a transport lorry, it’s hard not to stare at a car like this. It looks extremely cool whether it’s sat on the tarmac, in our workshop, or in the back of a lorry.

Our 1972 Chevron B20 is moving on to the next chapter of its story in Australia. We hope that, eventually, it will end up back on a race track but, whatever happens, we hope its owner enjoys having such a special car in their collection.

We have said goodbye to this car twice now and, although this seems like it could be the last time, we hope that we see it again in some form in the future as we really do like having our 1972 Chevron B20 with us.

For now though, we will admire it from afar!

Supporting The RNLI

The late Robert Furniss Riding (known as Bob) was a passionate supporter of maritime charities. He had a past love of sailing and felt it was very important for charities such as the RNLI to be supported as much as possible.

After Bob’s sad passing in May 2022, his support of the RNLI continued.

Over the years, Bob had acquired a substantial car collection. With many of these being classics and rare vehicles, his collection was worth more than £1.5 million.

To show how generous Bob was, the RNLI was named the Residuary Beneficiary of the Robert Furniss Riding estate. This meant that, after his death, when his collection of cars went to auction, the money raised would go to the charity.

We purchased one of Bob’s cars – our 1991 Maserati Bi-Turbo Spyder E and, in the process, offered our support to the RNLI.

The RNLI does extremely important work keeping people safe at sea. Everyone here at Bridge Classic Cars is very proud that we have played a small part in supporting them and we are honoured to be a part of Bob’s story.

Helen Hopkins, head of legacies at the RNLI, said:

‘We are incredibly grateful to the late Robert Furniss Riding for naming the RNLI as one of the beneficiaries of his estate, along with many other beneficiaries.

The sale of the classic car collection will form some of the donation as the RNLI is the residuary beneficiary, so we’re very grateful to see it raise so much money.

Six in 10 lifeboat launches are only possible due to gifts in wills. Any gift left to the RNLI, large or small, makes a huge difference.’

We are very keen to support and promote local and national charities to help support them in their work and this is just one of the ways we have done so in the past.

The full story of our 1991 Maserati Bi-Turbo Spyder E can be seen here.

£2000 Donated To The NHS

During the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, Bridge Classic Cars wanted to show our support for the incredible work the NHS was doing. Not only did the National Health Service staff put themselves at risk by working through the pandemic, but they also work extremely hard to keep us safe every single day.

We launched Bridge Classic Cars Competitions during lockdown and the very first car drawn, our 1964 MGB Roadster was used to raise money for our amazing NHS.

As a result of the competition, we made a donation of £2000 to the National Health Service.

We are passionate about helping causes that do extremely important work and we can’t think of many more important causes than the NHS.

£38,500 Raised For The DEC Ukrainian Humanitarian Appeal

When Russian forces invaded Ukraine, a huge number of people were left in a very bad situation. Aid was desperately needed and that meant money needed to be raised. The DEC Ukrainian Humanitarian Appeal was set up to get much-needed help to the Ukrainian people.

With more than 13 million people being displaced as a result of the invasion, the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) started their appeal to raise funds to support its work in Ukraine.

Everyone here at Bridge Classic Cars wanted to help out any way we could and, luckily, some of our friends stepped up too.

One of our previous competition winners, Jar Joyce, got in touch with us and very kindly offered his prize, our 1989 TVR S2 to put back into our competition draw with all the money raised from ticket sales going directly to the DEC Ukrainian Humanitarian Appeal.

Other companies such as Hagerty UK, Car & Classic, Classic and Sportscar Magazine, and more got involved too and, together, we were able to raise £38,500.

We are proud to have raised this money to help people in Ukraine who have been so badly affected by the war.

We are extremely grateful to Jar for offering his beautiful car to us, to all the companies and individuals who helped spread the word, and to everyone who bought a ticket for the draw.

Bridge Classic Cars are passionate about supporting the important work of charities such as the DEC. We have worked with several companies and individuals in order to raise a substantial amount of money for worthwhile causes and we will continue to do so in the future.

Classic Car Specialists – Bridge Classic Cars

Bridge Classic Cars are classic car specialists. We have restored hundreds of classic cars since we first opened our doors back in 2004. Things are very different to how they were back then though.

Classic Car Restoration

Our roots are planted firmly in the world of classic car restoration. Our passion for classic vehicles runs deeply through every member of our workshop team.

We love all classic vehicles regardless of make and model. However, we have cemented ourselves as a world leader when it comes to restoring Jensen 541 models. Over the years, we have had more than 20 of these rare cars come into the workshop. Whether they have been full restorations or if we have been involved in other restoration work, we know the Jensen 541 extremely well.

It’s not just Jensen’s that we restore though. Our current projects include a wide range of classic vehicles and all are in the skilled hands of our classic car technicians.

With close to 400 years of automotive experience between them, even the classic vehicles we restore aren’t as old as the amount of time our technicians have been working on them!

Classic Car Competitions

We pride ourselves on bringing a modern approach to the world of classic cars. We want future generations to look at classic vehicles the same way we do and we want them to find their own passion for them too.

At Bridge Classic Cars we want to make classic car ownership more accessible. That’s why we launched Bridge Classic Cars Competitions. Through this platform, more than £3 million worth of classic vehicles has been won by a wide range of people.

Owning a classic car is something that not everyone is able to do. Through our competitions, everyone has an equal chance of winning their very own classic car and experiencing everything that makes them so very special.

Bringing Classic Cars Into The Modern World

If you ask a classic car owner what makes a car a classic car, you will be given different answers by different people. For us, classic cars aren’t defined by age, they are defined by the feeling you get when you drive them, the craftsmanship that has gone into making them, and the passion you experience every time you see them.

It can be very hard to explain this to someone who has never been around a classic car. That’s why we are so much more than a restoration company, we are classic car specialists. We are bringing classic cars into the modern world.

Through our website, our social media channels, and being a visible presence at classic car shows around the country, we are helping a new generation of people fall in love with classics the same way we did.

We create written and video content that opens the classic car world up to a whole new audience. Not only do we live stream the draws for our competitions but we also create entertaining videos of all of our classic car adventures.

Bridge Classic Cars – The Classic Car Specialists

Here at Bridge Classic Cars, we love classic cars. We love restoring them, we love driving them, and we love sharing them with as many people as possible.

We are playing our part in making sure that classic cars will be around for future generations to enjoy. As much as the world continues to move forward at pace, we believe there is a place for classic cars in the future.

Right now, we restore classic cars, we can offer classic car storage, and so much more.

As we continue to bring classic cars into the modern world, we are working on more events, more projects, and sharing as much classic car news as we can.

A Visit From Ed Stafford

We were lucky enough to welcome explorer and adventurer Ed Stafford to Bridge Classic Cars recently.

While he was here, Ed had a tour of the workshop, he spoke to some of the team about the work they do and some of the classic cars they have been working on, and he was also involved in one of our new projects which is coming very soon.

Everyone here really enjoyed Ed’s visit. He had lots of interesting stories to share, not only about his adventures, tv shows, and upcoming projects, but also about his 2015 Land Rover Defender 110 that was recently stolen and stripped.

Ed is currently working on rebuilding his Defender and, as there is still some cosmetic work to go, we hope to be able to help him out with this in the very near future.

We hope that Ed will be a regular face in the Bridge Classic Cars workshop and we look forward to welcoming him back in the new year.

Something Exciting Is Coming…

At Bridge Classic Cars we like to be creative, innovative, forward-thinking, and we do our best to bring a modern take to the world of classic cars.

Part of that involves developing new ideas and making the most out of our facilities.

With that in mind, there is something new and very exciting coming to Bridge Classic Cars. Work has begun and will continue over the coming weeks ready for our new idea to come to life. Once work is complete, it will open up the classic car community to even more people.

From classic car clubs to independent enthusiasts and everyone in between. We have big plans and everyone will be welcome!

In the meantime, the photos below show some of the progress being made in our very exciting new project.

Bridge Classic Cars At The NEC – The Classic Motor Show

This weekend, The Classic Motor Show was held at the NEC in Birmingham. Bridge Classic Cars were lucky enough to be in attendance and we loved spending time with fellow classic car enthusiasts.

If you have never been to The Classic Motor Show before, it is a place where anyone with even the smallest of interests in classic vehicles can find something to catch their eye. From car clubs to tool kits and even the odd celebrity or two, the show is a hub for the classic car community.

Throughout our time at the show, we got to meet some old friends and made some new ones too!

Who Was There?

Members of the Jensen Owners Club were extremely welcoming and we spent some time talking to them about our love of Jensens. We were particularly drawn to a 1960 Jensen 541R that was being displayed on their stand. This impressive-looking car has paint and interior work that is 35 years old yet still looks as good as new. We were even told that no one has sat on the actual seats in the car as seat covers have always been used!

The Rover P6 Club had a range of P6s available to look at including ‘Joseph’ the multi-coloured, award-winning P6 owned by Clive who runs M H Annable & Son. Clive has worked on P6s for more than 40 years and is now a key member of the P6 club.

Having a chat with members of The Mercedes-Benz Club was good fun and we loved seeing all of the beautiful Mercedes vehicles they had on show. We were particularly impressed by the members-only cafe where members of the Mercedes-Benz club could enjoy a hot drink and snacks away from the busy main show area.

One of the most popular areas of this year’s Classic Motor Show was the stand occupied by The Smallest Cog. This is the restoration company (and soon-to-be classic racing team) owned by Richard Hammond. The highlight of the exhibit was Richard’s 1972 MGB GT. This was the last car he ever drove on Top Gear and is the car that his team will be racing in the near future. As well as his current projects, some of Richard’s iconic cars from his TV shows were on display too – any Top Gear fan will know the Opel Kadett known as ‘Oliver’!

The Classic Motor Show 2023 – A Great Show And We Will Be Back

We all had a fantastic time at The Classic Motor Show 2023 and we will certainly be back again next year. Seeing such a wide variety of classic vehicles, speaking to so many classic car enthusiasts, and experiencing the excitement of the event is something we definitely want to do again.

As you can see from the photos below, there was a lot to explore at this year’s show and we can’t wait to return next year!
