Congratulations to Richard Jones, winner of the Classic Racing Spirit Spitfire Gin ‘N3200’
Winner: Richard Jones
Ticket No: 177
The Live Draw for this competition was held on Tuesday 22nd October 2024.
Created for the Duxford Imperial War Museum, this limited-edition gin is based on an award winning IWSC London Dry Gin and is handmade in small batches using copper stills. It contains juniper, angelica root, lemon peel, orange peel, liquorice bark, coriander and orris root.
These unique ingredients create a fresh flavour explosion for the palette.
The reason this gin is so special is that it was created in recognition of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.1a N3200. This was a plane used by No.19 Squadron at Duxford and is one of only a few remaining Spitfires to have been used in combat during WWII but is still airworthy today.
N3200 was used in one operation on 26 May 1940. Flown by Squadron Leader Geoffrey Stephenson, it was used on a patrol to cover the evacuation of allied forces from the beaches and harbour of Dunkirk.
After being shot down, Stephenson remained a prisoner until the end of the war.
In 1988, the plane was eventually recovered on the French sands after strong currents revealed it. It was then restored before flying again in 2014!
Batch 1 of the gin is limited to just 500 hand numbered and labelled bottles. This is bottle number 494.
