The YANGWANG U9 Xtreme has officially become the world’s fastest production car after reaching 308.4mph at the ATP Automotive Testing facility in Papenburg, Germany, on 14th September 2025.

The U9 Xtreme (also known as the U9X in its production form) shattered previous records, going faster than YANGWANG’s own EV benchmark but also going on to pass the 304.1mph top speed of the fastest petrol‑powered production car ever recorded, the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+.

The car is based on the existing U9 architecture sold in China. However, the U9X has some upgrades that take its performance to the next level:

  • A 1200 V ultra‑high‑voltage electrical system (versus the standard 800 V)
  • A Blade Battery using lithium iron phosphate chemistry, capable of a 30C discharge rate
  • Four ultra-high-speed motors, each operating at up to 30,000 rpm, together producing over 3,000 PS
  • Track-spec semi-slick tyres
  • A reworked DiSus‑X suspension tuned to handle the demands of extreme circuit speeds

“This is an incredibly proud moment for everyone in the research and development division. YANGWANG is a brand that does not recognise the impossible, and only through this commitment to what’s coming next can you end up with a vehicle like the U9X. I extend my gratitude to the whole team, and my thanks to the driver, Marc Basseng, for his skill and technical input. It’s terrific that the fastest production car in the world is now electric.”

BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li

The U9 Xtreme has entered limited production with just 30 units being made. Its name combines “Extreme” (signifying limit and ultimate) with “X,” symbolising the unknown, in line with YANGWANG’s philosophy of innovation and exploration.

“This record was only possible because the U9 Xtreme simply has incredible performance. Technically, something like this is not possible with a combustion engine. Thanks to the electric motor, the car is quiet, there are no load changes, and that allows me to focus even more on the track.”

Marc Basseng, Driver of the U9X

The YANGWANG U9X is the fastest production car in the world and is considered a sustainable hypercar. Zero emissions and huge speed, sounds interesting…
