Seat And Electric Window Repairs

Our 1992 Toyota MR2 has been in the skilled hands of classic car technician Jonn. After he removed the driver’s seat for repair, Jonn disconnected the wiring under the seat before hoovering the space out ready for the seat to go back in once the repair is complete.

A new plastic weather shield was made for the door before the door panel was refitted. New screws were used at the bottom edge as the old ones were missing when the car arrived. Once the switch pack was reconnected, the window was tested and found to be working fine.

A New Arrival – Toyota MR2

The workshop team will soon begin their work on this very popular nostalgic car.

On Its Way

In The Workshop – 1988 Toyota MR2

We have recently welcomed our 1988 Toyota MR2 into the Bridge Classic Cars workshop.

While it is with us, the team will be giving it a full service as well as giving the car a thorough inspection to make sure it leaves us in full working order.

As you can see from the pictures below, this is a fantastic looking classic car and we are looking forward to getting to work on it.

In Time – Inspecting the Timing Belt of the 1992 Toyota MR2

The 1992 Toyota MR2 is in the Bridge Classic Cars workshop after its spell in our in-house paint shop.

This time it was for our in-house restoration technician Paul to inspect the timing belt of the 29-year-old Sports car. Although the belt itself seemed to be in relatively good condition, it was decided that as a matter of course that both the timing belt and the water pump were replaced as part of its routine maintenance.

With such a complex engine, the timing belt is a crucial part of the operation so it is best to replace it with a new component. While the timing cover is removed and access is easier, it is also good practice to replace the water pump with a newer, updated version to ensure the rear-engined sports car can cool itself down after a spirited drive.

From the Bottom to the Top – The Sills on the 1992 Toyota MR2 are Painted!

In the last update on the 1992 Toyota MR2: Paul, our in-house restoration technician, was busy cutting out the corroded and damaged sills of the bright red sportscar in preparation for its date with the Paint Shop.

Chris, who runs our in-house paint shop, has worked his magic on the JDM icon to seamlessly blend in the new sills that paul had grafted into the bottom of the car. Thanks to our state of the art paint mixing computer, Chris could get the colour as close to the existing paint on the car to best make it flow together. Then, the bottom part of the sills were finished in a glossy black hard coating to ensure their protection for many years to come.

I think we can all agree that if you hadn’t read the previous stories about the MR2, you’d think it was a brand new car. That is the magic of our in-house restoration teams.

This Just In – 1992 Toyota MR2

It’s not often we get to see more modern classics here in the Bridge Classic Cars workshop. But, when we do they are iconic. Take for example this 1992 Toyota MR2 Automatic.

The car is in the process of being assessed and documented by our in-house restoration teams to determine what work will need to be done to make this example of peak 1990s Japanese engineering solid and reliable.

The MR2 is a wonderful mid-engined sportscar. Loved by many throughout the world for its handling, its dynamics and its ease to live with charm. This MR2 is fitted with an automatic gearbox as well as removable roof panels, which add to its everyday usability or weekend fun appeal.

Once the specific departments have looked at the car and issued their findings, expect to see more on this fantastic sportscar here on the Bridge Classic Cars blog.

Hilux’s New Trim

Last week Kath was working on a new headliner and sun visors. Today, Brian is setting up the Hilux so that the ceiling cloth can be fitted. Brian first cleaned the roof, before fitting sound deadening. Once the sound deadening was in place, Brian then begun fitting the roof lining fabric, gluing it perfectly into place.

This restoration is a part home-restoration with the occasional help from us at Bridge. The clients have decided they want to do it themselves with our aid as and when it’s needed.

Hilux Repairs Continue

James has been continuing his work to correct the rust damage on the Toyota Hilux doors. He is now repeating the same process on the passenger side door. This includes removing rust and replacing it with fresh metal to then beat into place.

The Indestructible Toyota

Today we welcomed another new project in that will commence in the coming weeks. This 1996 Toyota HiLux is in need of quite some work and restoration, but no job is too big for us here at Bridge! This Hilux needs a chassis restoration and cab refurbishment. We aim to tackle the buck later down the line.

The HiLux models are incredibly reliable and practical for 4×4 pursuits, whether that be farming, off-roading or trade work. Some may remember a similar HiLux receiving an unforgiving battering on Top Gear, who proceeded to prove just how indestructible these vehicles really are. Craig tells us that he worked with this car during his career at the BBC: “I worked there as part of my placement but you couldn’t get anywhere near the vehicle when on set due to the amount of toxic chemical residue left it.”
