The Valkyrie was created as part of the mission to create the ultimate hypercar that would be capable of performance equal to the cars built for the sole purpose of racing. Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing Advanced Technology joined forces and this was the result. A monster that Aston Martin calculated could complete a lap of the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit in just 3 minutes 20 seconds. That would mean it could comfortably keep up with the Hypercar class.

Motoring Hall Of Famer – Dr. Andy Palmer
Working in the automotive industry for more than 40 years, Dr. Andy Palmer has held multiple senior and influential positions such as COO of Nissan and CEO of Aston Martin Lagonda. Among his long list of accomplishments within the industry, he is also a licensed race car driver and even advises the UK Government on export matters.
Dr. Palmer said “I’m humbled and honoured to be inducted into The Motoring Hall of Fame this year, and to be recognised at last month’s British Motor Show induction ceremony in this way,”
Motoring Hall Of Famer – Linda Jackson
Linda Jackson has worked in the automotive industry since 1977 when she held a temporary position as an accounting clerk at Jaguar. After her time at Jaguar, she moved on to multiple positions for various well-known car brands including British Leyland, and Austin Rover. She became CEO of Citroen before finally being appointed as CEO of Peugeot in 2021.
Speaking about her induction, Linda said “Thank you to the Hall of Fame and show organisers for this wonderful accolade”

As CEO of the Institute of the Motoring Industry, Steve Nash has been in the motor industry his entire working life. A large part of his career was spent at BMW UK where he worked from 1986 all the way through until 2012. In his current role, he is working on his mission to raise awareness of the importance of professional standards across the sector, not only within the industry but also in government, consumer organisations, and other relevant stakeholders.
A very surprised Steve Nash said, “The British Motor Show is the biggest event of its kind in the UK, so to be presented with this accolade at the show amongst so many industry colleagues and genuine automotive enthusiasts was a real privilege.”

Vera Park is currently the Lead Exterior Designer at Jaguar Land Rover. In this role, she plays a huge part in how Jaguars and Land Rovers will look in the future. She has also worked at Infiniti, Nissan and Renault before her appointment at JLR.
Vera said “Many thanks to the organisers of The Hall of Fame and The British Motor Show. Also, my congratulations to Andy, Linda and Steve. It really is a huge honour for me, as a car designer, to join such admirable automotive industry people in The Motoring Hall of Fame.”

With an estimated sale price of between £100,000 – £140,000, this very special classic car is the rarest of all the ‘David Brown’ Aston Martin models and has been with its current owner for almost thirty years. While in the hands of a former owner, Shaun Magee, the car was driven competitively by the racing driver and Aston Martin engineer.
However, today it is a restoration project that, once complete, has huge potential to enter some of the world’s most prestigious car shows.
Only 15 DB1 cars were ever made and as ‘DB149’ holds chassis number AMC/49/8, this was the eighth one produced. It comes fitted with a 2.6-litre DOHC straight-six powerplant that was subsequently installed by Magee during the 1970s and was also re-bodied in period by the Swallow Coachbuilding Company.

It is because of this level of importance that we are joining Air Ambulances UK in their celebration of Air Ambulance Week 2023 – the only week of the year dedicated to raising awareness and funds for our country’s flying lifesavers.
The Importance of Air Ambulance Week
Air Ambulance Week is a nationwide event in the United Kingdom that takes place in September each year. It is an initiative to recognise and celebrate the vital work carried out by air ambulance charities across the country. These charities rely on donations to operate their helicopters, cover maintenance costs, and provide essential medical equipment that their highly skilled teams use in the worst moments of their patient’s lives. Unbelievably, the 21 air ambulance charities throughout the UK receive no day-to-day government funding and rely almost entirely on charitable donations.
To put into perspective just how much of a challenge our air ambulance charities face:
Collectively, air ambulance charities attend more than 37,000 lifesaving missions each year across the UK
Between them, air ambulances are dispatched to over 102 missions every day
Each mission costs, on average, £3962
There are 37 air ambulance helicopters operated by 21 charities
Without raising enough funds through charitable donations, they would not be able to do what they do
Air ambulances play a vital role in emergency healthcare, significantly reducing response times and improving survival rates in critical situations. They provide rapid transportation to hospitals for trauma victims, deliver specialised medical teams to accident scenes, and have saved countless lives directly as a result of their services. By raising awareness and funds during Air Ambulance Week, this work can continue.
East Anglian Air Ambulance And Bridge Classic Cars
Earlier this year, we teamed up with our local air ambulance charity, East Anglian Air Ambulance to raise funds to help them continue to save lives throughout Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, and Bedfordshire. We did this through our special charity competition where we gave the opportunity for someone to win a 1973 Triumph Spitfire for just a few pounds. By collaborating on this charity competition, we wanted to make a significant impact on EAAA’s mission of saving lives 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. By the end of the competition, over £17,000 was raised for EAAA and everyone here at Bridge Classic Cars was extremely proud to raise some much-needed funds for our incredible local air ambulance charity.
The money raised will help the EAAA continue its lifesaving work, ensuring that its helicopter can remain operational and equipped with the latest medical technology. This means that more people in East Anglia will have access to the rapid, expert medical care that air ambulances provide. Lives will be saved, and families will be spared the anguish of losing loved ones due to delayed emergency medical responses.

Air Ambulance Week is a reminder of the incredible work done by air ambulance charities. The heroes who work as part of these charities throughout the UK deserve huge respect for the thousands of lives they save.

Toyota has continued its progress towards its zero carbon mobility goals with the unveiling of a prototype hydrogen fuel cell powered Hilux.
This prototype is the latest addition to a range of vehicles helping the brand move towards sustainable travel as well as suiting different needs and operating conditions. With a range of powertrain options such as hybrid electric, plug-in hybrid electric, battery electric and fuel cell electric, Toyota is demonstrating the broad scope of its multi-technology strategy to reach that fabled zero-carbon mobility.
The potentially ground-breaking Hilux made its debut at Toyota Manufacturing UK’s Burnaston car plant in Derby, where it has been developed in a joint project with consortium partners, supported by UK Government funding.

Hydrogen Power
The new powertrain features core elements from the Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel cell electric saloon. This is technology that has been in commercial production for almost 10 years and has proved its worth and quality over that period of time.
While driving, the fuel cell produces no tailpipe emissions other than pure water.
It has a driving range of 365 miles, which is quite a bit further than is likely to be achieved with a battery electric system. This increased range comes from the three high-pressure fuel tanks that are used in the prototype Hilux. Additionally, the battery stores electricity produced on-board by the fuel cell and is positioned in the rear load deck, which avoids any loss of cabin space.

History Of The Hydrogen Powered Toyota Hilux
In early 2022, the project commenced with a feasibility study conducted by TMUK and Toyota Motor Europe, in collaboration with consortium partners Ricardo, ETL, D2H Advanced Technologies, and Thatcham Research. Subsequently, funding was secured from the UK Government through the Advanced Propulsion Centre, a non-profit organisation dedicated to advancing cleaner technologies and innovative mobility concepts. This financial support paved the way for an intensive design and development program that kicked off on July 1st, 2022, with additional assistance from Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC).
Prototype construction began on June 5th this year, adhering to the Toyota Production System principles within a dedicated section of the TMUK facility. Amazingly, the first vehicle was completed just three weeks later, marking the beginning of a series of ten vehicles planned to be completed by the end of 2023. These vehicles will undergo rigorous global testing to ensure they meet the safety, dynamic performance, functionality, and durability standards required for a production model.
This project has provided TMUK members with an opportunity to acquire and apply new expertise in the field of fuel cell electrified vehicles and hydrogen system components. The consortium members have all played pivotal roles in the initial project phase. Ricardo, for instance, has supported preparations for the prototype build, handling design and development tasks, and validating the entire manufacturing process concurrently with TMUK teams. Over the coming months, they will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the vehicle.
Additionally, Thatcham Research, an automotive risk intelligence firm dedicated to comprehending the potential and risks of emerging vehicle technologies, has contributed to the project by offering sustainable repair consultancy and preparing hydrogen-related training materials for the repair market.

D2HAdvanced Technologies provides high-technology engineering services in simulation, modelling, aerodynamics, thermodynamics and design for motorsport and other high-performance industries. D2H has completed CFD analysis to highlight where improvements could be made.
Thatcham Research was established by the UK’s motor insurance industry in 1969, with the aim of containing or reducing the cost of motor insurance claims while maintaining safety standards. It will support the project in validating repairability and creating FCEV training package for the repair market.

1962 Ferrari 250 GTO – A Rare And Remarkable Car
With only 36 Ferrari 250 GTOs ever being produced, every one of them is special. However, this one, chassis 3765 is extra special as it was the only one that was owned by the Ferrari factory and raced by the Scuderia Ferrari team.
Other than the Ferrari factory, the car has also been owned by the chairman of the Ferrari Club of America. Its current ownership has lasted 38 years and has included fastidious care keeping the vehicle in stunning condition.

On 1st September, car enthusiasts will get a rare opportunity to become the new owner of a very interesting car, as Auctioneum auctions a unique 1988 Hustler 1.3L wooden six-wheeled car. The car in question was designed by the renowned William Towns, perhaps better known for being the man behind the design of the now iconic Aston Martin Lagonda.
Mr Towns sold the instructions for building the kit car from his home, with each vehicle being handbuilt by their owners making each one an entirely one-of-one example. Less than 400 of the kit cars were ever built, however, most of these were made from fibreglass. Very few were made from wood like this one, and it has been finished exceptionally well.
The quality of the build should come as no surprise seeing as the owner and builder is John Brazier, a former Rolls-Royce engineer who also helped work on the supersonic jet, Concorde back in the 1960s. After his time as an engineer, Mr Brazier went on to become a woodwork and metalwork teacher.
Putting this incredible car together took Mr Brazier three summers in the mid-1980s before it became the family’s main car. Used regularly for more than 13 years, the Hustler took the Brazier family on a number of road trips and holidays before being put into dry storage in the early 2000s.
With room to seat eight people, the new owner of The Hustler will be able to make the most of the six wheels, a period tape deck, along with handmade wooden gear knob, handbrake lever, and steering wheel. In addition to the look of the car, Mr Brazier has said that it has never failed an MOT!
The wooden Hustler goes to auction with an estimate of £2000 – £3000 and is likely to generate a lot of attention. Just in case the new owner would like to know more about their purchase, Mr Brazier has said he is very happy to show the buyer around the vehicle and is also happy to discuss its building and operation. He’s even included a small box of assorted spares in the sale.
The lot listing describes The 1988 Hustler’s condition as:
“The vehicle has been dry stored for its entire life and appears in excellent order. The vehicle was lovingly maintained its entire life, and everything was taken care of and fixed where required. At the time of parking, it suffered just a simple flat battery that was never attended to. The vehicle is free-wheeling and able to be pushed with relative ease”.
To celebrate its 110th anniversary, Aston Martin has revealed the Valour – a stunning V12-powered, ultra-exclusive, special edition sports car that has been built for maximum driver experience and timeless classic appeal.
The Valour is directly aimed at the purists who want to enjoy a truly involved driving experience. There is no doubt that Aston Martin’s commitment to giving the Valour era-defining performance and stimulation has been a priority throughout the design and build process. As the only front-engined V12 sports car available with a manual transmission, it really does offer a drive like nothing else.
Aston Martin developed the Valour using the very latest technology, methods, and materials, all fused together in something of a tribute to Aston Martin’s greatest front-engined models. Said to be the antidote to the modern cars that aim to isolate drivers from the process of driving, the Valour goes against the grain when it comes to the current car market.
Inspired by the original V8 Vantage and the incredible Vantage-based RHAM/1 ‘Muncher’ Le Mans racer from 1980, the Valour’s design and flawless execution is a nod to the One-77 supercar, while its intense driver-centric character creates a connection between the Valour and the one-off Victor.
Production is limited to just 110 cars globally meaning it will be amongst the most collectible of all Aston Martins. To make the Valour even more appealing, it mates the 715PS/753Nm twin-turbocharged 5.2-litre V12 to a bespoke six-speed manual transmission for the very first time.

Aston Martin Valour Specifications
With a unique powertrain calibration, power and torque outputs are unrestrained and offer full performance and control in every gear. A mechanical limited-slip differential, electronic traction and stability control systems, along with multiple driving modes make driving the Valour a memorable experience.
Designed to be predominantly a road car, the Valour has a bespoke suspension, with adaptive dampers, springs, and anti-roll bars that have all been honed specifically to the car. The custom body structure features front and rear shear panels, a rear suspension tower strut brace and fuel tank bracing – all of which maximise torsional and lateral stiffness allowing the suspension the best possible platform to deliver precise body control.
With standard-fit Carbon Ceramic Brakes, Valour has ample stopping power courtesy of front discs measuring 410mm x 38mm and gripped by 6-piston callipers. At the rear, 360mm x 32mm discs are paired with 4-piston callipers. Offering increased braking performance and a significant 23kg reduction in un-sprung mass versus steel brakes, these CCB discs are engineered to resist brake fade at temperatures up to 800 degrees, enabling the driver to explore Valour’s full performance potential with maximum confidence and precise control.
Completing Valour’s impressive hardware package are a set of 21” lightweight forged alloy ‘Honeycomb’ wheels, which are fitted with the very latest AML-specific Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 tyres – 275/35 R21 front tyres and 325/30 R21 on the rear.

Interior
The two-seater cockpit of the Valour is simply designed but offers timeless style and luxury. A choice of machined aluminium, titanium, carbon fibre or walnut for the gearknob is offered to pair with the exposed shift mechanism.
The masterful use of materials has long been an Aston Martin hallmark, so it should come as no surprise that Valour’s interior features original combinations from which customers can create their own unique specifications. For example, traditional woollen tweed, inspired by the seat coverings of Aston Martin’s 1959 Le Mans-winning DBR1, can provide a stunning contrast against the high-tech weave of carbon fibre used to form the shells of Valour’s lightweight performance seats, bespoke door cards, fascia air vents, upper centre console and transmission tunnel.
Further customisation is also offered in the form of livery. Separating Valour’s body into four areas – front, bonnet, sides and rear – customers can choose from an extensive range of hand-painted stripes and graphics designs, which can be applied in any one of 21 paint colours.
Despite these generous customisation options, if a customer wants to go beyond the standard Valour options then they can call upon the services of Q by Aston Martin to create a truly bespoke specification. Examples of this include the design of a one-off livery, fully exposed 2×2 twill carbon fibre bodywork with a choice of a red, blue or green tint, painted wheels, Mokume carbon fibre interior detailing or a choice of Johnsons of Elgin tweed and cashmere fabrics for the seats and headlining.
Miles Nurnberger, Aston Martin’s Director of Design, said: “At Aston Martin, our design is always progressive, but when it comes to celebrating a significant milestone – in this instance our 110th birthday – we allow ourselves a little latitude. Consequently, Valour is gloriously unapologetic; an old-school brute refined and reimagined through the lens of 2023. Making a return to a chiselled shape, moving away from the more sculptural forms that define current series production Aston Martin’s, with bold details and modern materials rooted in the present. We were keen to ensure its looks reflect the driving experience. The raw physicality of the shape should tell you all you need to know about the ferocious performance and analogue thrills of taming a 715PS manual transmission sports car, yet the clear use of the latest technology points to a car with modern manners and exceptional dynamic capabilities”.
Valour production is set to begin at Aston Martin’s Gaydon Headquarters in Q3 of 2023, with the first deliveries scheduled to begin during Q4 of 2023. The Valour looks to become one of the most coveted cars in Aston Martin’s unrivalled catalogue of front-engined special series sports cars. Valour isn’t just a precious collector’s piece though, this is a car that demands to be driven.
Production of the Ford Fiesta will end later on today when the last ever car leaves the production line in Cologne.
The Ford Fiesta has become something of an icon over the years and it is a highly recognisable car. With so many people having owned a Fiesta, been driven around in a Fiesta, or fallen in love with a Fiesta, this news will likely bring a sense of sadness. Fond memories of this little car will be commonplace and it’s hard to not feel that this is the end of an era.
Since production first began back in 1976, the Fiesta has been a hugely popular car and was the best-selling car in the UK for 12 consecutive years from 2009 onwards. Unfortunately, though, Ford is unable to make a profit on it and needs to make room in the factory as they focus on producing an electric vehicle range.
Regardless of the reason, today marks the end of a chapter in automotive history.
Tomorrow is the first of a two-part auction for a collection of 86 cars, all owned by a single individual, hosted by RM Sotheby’s. The majority of the collection is made up of Porsche 911’s which is why this unique group of vehicles has been named – The Carrera Collection.
The Carrera Collection – Part 1
Part one of this incredible auction will be held in Switzerland at the Hotel Meilenstein in Langenthal on 7 July. All of the cars going up for sale are Swiss-registered and are all offered with no reserve! Tomorrow’s auction will see some impressive vehicles go under the hammer, including a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Touring, which is offered in its original colours of Light Yellow over Black. It is a fully matching-numbers example and is estimated to sell for CHF400,000 – CHF450,000 (approximately £350,000 – £394,000).
If one wasn’t enough, there is actually another 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Touring in the collection. This one is finished in the highly-desirable factory-specified colour of Tangerine and specified with Recaro seats. As one of Porsche’s most desirable halo models, it is estimated to sell for CHF350,000 – CHF400,000 (approximately £306,000 – £350,000).
One car that will no doubt capture the attention of Porsche fans is the 1963 Porsche 356 B Carrera 2 2000 GS Coupé by Reutter. An example of Porsche’s first-ever production model, it is finished in a factory-correct colour combination of Ivory White over black leatherette. After an extensive seven-year restoration, the estimated sale price is CHF360,000 – CHF450,000 (approximately £316,000 – £394,000).
Another incredible Porsche to be offered in tomorrow’s auction is the 1963 Porsche 356 B by Reutter. This one comes in a rare Carrera 2 ‘Sunroof’ Coupé specification and was restored in 2012 by a 356-specialist workshop in Italy. Estimate – CHF350,000 – CHF450,000 (approximately £306,000 – £394,000).
Oliver Camelin, Director of Sales, Switzerland said, “It is incredibly rare that a collection of Porsches of this quantity and quality comes to market. It features a wide and exceptional cross-section of 911s, many of which boast rare specifications or are limited-edition cars. With all cars offered across both the sales with no reserve, this is an exciting opportunity for Porsche enthusiasts.”
It isn’t just road cars that will be up for grabs either. One particular highlight comes in the form of a 1995 Porsche 911 GT2 Evolution. This one comes with an extensive history file that includes FIVA and ACI technical passports. As the highest-performance version of the air-cooled era of the 911, and undergoing a rebuild in the mid-2010s by Rennsport of Reggio Emilia, Italy, estimates are CHF350,000 – CHF450,000 (approximately £306,000 – £394,000).
Tomorrow’s sale will also feature three BMW Z8 Roadsters and two Alpina V8 Roadsters, six 911 Speedsters of different eras, three 911 S’s, three 356’s, two 2.7 RS Tourings, three 911 Turbos, and four GT3 RSs from different generations.
The Carrera Collection – Part 2
Part two of The Carrera Collection sale will be held on 12th July at Sotheby’s Milan, Italy. This will be for the European Union-registered cars in the collection. One of the cars that will be offered is a 1959 Porsche 356 A Carrera 1600 GT Coupé by Reutter, which is offered with period competition history with class wins at the 1959 Pontedecimo-Giovi and Aosta-Pila hill climbs. It also comes with period photographs, Kardex document, FIVA assessment book, and past registration documents, and it is estimated to sell for between €400,000 – €500,000 (approximately £342,000 – £427,000)
Another attention-grabbing vehicle in the Italian line-up is a 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo S Prototype. It has the final and most technologically advanced air-cooled 911 Turbo engine, and was a factory prototype with more than 30 optional extras including a sunroof, heated racing-style sport seats, and a period Motorola 2200 car phone. Estimate – €300,000 – €400,000 (approximately £256,000 – £342,000).
A 2010 Porsche 911 GT2 RS will also be available. With less than 7,500 kilometres on the clock, the car features a 3.6-litre flat-six paired with a six-speed manual gearbox which certainly makes for a passionate driving machine. Estimate – €240,000 – €280,000 (approximately £205,000 – £239,000).
One car that is expected to be extremely popular is a 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster that comes in paint-to-sample Elfenbein with colour-matched Fuchs wheels, and has an estimate of €150,000 – €200,000 (approximately £128,000 – £171,000).
At the 24 Hours of Spa, one of the most anticipated racing events in international motorsport, Maserati revealed its latest track creation, the GT2.
Back in March, Maserati announced that the shakedown process had begun on this exciting machine. Since then, the car has gone through a series of intensive tests and it is now ready to bring the brand back to GT competitions. After the MC12’s domination of the track between 2005 and 2010, the GT2 is looking to recreate this success.
The Maserati GT2 is a beautiful mix of Maserati’s past, present, and future, as it draws on the legacy of the MC12. It also looked to the racing version of the MC20 super sports car by taking the already exceptional 463-kW/621-hp Nettuno V6 engine, and pushing its limits even further; all of this with the aim of driving the car into the motorsport history books by writing a new winning chapter.
Maserati designed and built the GT2 in dedication to private teams and gentleman drivers. The brand says it is a masterpiece of performance that combines history, innovation, and sporting attitude. All of these have always seemed to characterise Maserati cars, for both track and road. The plan for the GT2 was for it to take part in championships or individual events reserved for the GT2 class. The Maserati GT2 will make its track debut in the final stages of the 2023 Fanatec GT European Series, and is due to participate in the entire 2024 season.

Back in 2017, the world-renowned designer Ralph Lauren sat down with CARJAM TV to discuss his incredible car collection.
With around 60 cars, this collection is something of a museum dedicated to automotive history. Included in the dream garage are a 1938 Bugatti, a 1958 Ferrari Testa Rossa, and a 2010 Lamborghini Murcielago.
If you’ve ever wondered what a $350 million car collection looks like, this might give you a bit more of an idea.
Earlier today, Maserati introduced the first Fuoriserie Essentials collection. The collection features a special group of cars that have been curated by a chosen team of tastemakers and friends of Maserati. The global brand ambassador, David Beckham, designed this debut collection which has the aim to inspire car lovers to put their own personality and personal touch into their vehicles making each unit the ultimate Italian luxury sports car.
Two distinctive cars are in the Fuoriserie DB Essentials collection and come from David Beckham’s Savile Row wardrobe and his love and interest in classic Maseratis. The first car in the DB range, inspired by the 1967 Maserati Ghibli Coupe is finished in ‘Night Interaction’ Blue with a tan-shade leather interior.
The second car pays tribute to the 1986 Maserati Quattroporte Royale, which was only produced in 51 units and has been painted ‘Verde Royale’ (dark green) with a warm brown leather interior. Each of these special vehicles includes an exclusive metal plate celebrating the collaboration between Maserati and David Beckham which can be applied to the central tunnel between the front seats or between the two headrests.

Both Fuoriserie DB Essentials configurations are now available upon request on the MC20 super sports car, combining performance, sportiness and luxury to its racing soul, and the new ‘everyday exceptional’ SUV Grecale, striking the right balance between versatility, elegance and performance.
Today marks the day that the first publically available sustainable petrol, specifically designed for classic vehicles, goes on sale in the UK.
Made by fuel specialist Coryton, the SUSTAIN Classic range is plant-based and allows classic car owners to fuel their cars without any modifications needing to be made to the engines. There are currently three types of fuel available, and the fuel with the highest sustainable content in the range promises a minimum of 65% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions when compared to fossil fuels.
Advanced second-generation biofuel, manufactured from agricultural waste such as straw and by-products from crops which wouldn’t be used for consumption, is used to create this potentially ground-breaking fuel. This means that the new fuel utilises the carbon already in the atmosphere (which the plants absorb as they grow). Contrastly, when using fossil fuels, additional CO2 currently locked underground is released.
Despite SUSTAIN Classic being designed for classic vehicles, it can be used for any vehicle that runs on standard forecourt petrol. With an octane number greater than 98 and bio-ethanol content of less than 1%, it also contains a premium additive package which stabilises and extends the life of the fuel and helps clean and protect the engines.
Per litre, the price is currently £3.80 – £5.24 (depending on the variant) and is available from distributor Motor Spirit at Bicester Heritage from 13th June. However, more stockists are launching throughout the UK in the coming months.
The three variants currently available are Super 80, Super 33, and Racing 50. All of these are suitable for year-round use.

Sustainable Fuel
The three fuel types range from at least 33% sustainable content to at least 80%. David Richardson, Business Development Director at Coryton explains why: “Every kilogram of CO2 we avoid adding to our atmosphere, by replacing fossil fuel with sustainable fuel, is a win. We don’t instantly have to go for the full switch to start making a genuine impact. As more feedstocks become available, these fuels will start to contain even higher levels of traceable sustainable elements. However, we want to keep things as affordable as possible for consumers and be open about what’s actually achievable at the moment.
“The availability of true fossil-free fuel components is limited. So, we’re setting truthful and realistic goals, producing fuels that have a meaningful impact whilst meeting the demands of the user. While we could use ‘mass balancing’ techniques to certify this fuel as 100%, we believe that it is important to be open about technology readiness and traceability. The industry will get there with the right support – which is why we think it’s important to start getting these products into the hands of consumers so they can see how easy and effective the switch could be.”
SUSTAIN Classic has performed brilliantly in the testing centre but also on the track too. It has been certified by Coryton’s fully accredited lab and meets ISCC sustainable protocols. In fact, during the recent Rally For The Ages event at Bicester Heritage, more than 70 cars used the Super 80 variant of the fuel to complete the course. This will also be available at Flywheel 2023 too.
Guy Lachlan heads up Motor Spirit at Bicester Heritage, which will be one of the distributors of SUSTAIN Classic. Another Specialist Fuel
The SUSTAIN Classic fuel is actually the second specialist fuel from Coryton’s SUSTAIN range. Last year, SUSTAIN Racing was launched and took the motorsport sector by storm by claiming titles in events such as the Dakar Rally.

A huge milestone was recently passed by the team at the Nissan Plant in Sunderland, as they have been celebrating the 11 millionth vehicle being built there, since production started in 1986. As car number 11 million leaves the factory, this means that, on average, a new car has been built every 2 minutes for the last 37 years!
The incredible achievement was reached when a Blade Silver Qashqai e-POWER, one of three electrified models currently built at the plant, rolled off the line. Each one of these cars takes about 8.5 hours to build. In comparison, the very first car built at the plant in 1986 was a Nissan Bluebird and took around 22 hours to produce.
Nissan Sunderland’s mammoth car production numbers were achieved through the building of nine different models, with 22 variants. Four of these models – Qashqai, Micra, Primera, and Juke have all surpassed seven-figure production numbers. In fact, the Qashqai was the UK’s best-selling new car in 2022 with more than four million being built.
6000 people work at the Sunderland Plant where around 5 million parts arrive at the facility every day! Nissan also supports 30,000 UK jobs in the supply chain.
The Qashqai e-POWER and the Juke Hybrid both began production at the Sunderland Plant last summer and, already, 50,000 Qashqai e-POWERs have been made along with 20,000 Juke Hybrids. To make sure this incredible level of production is maintained, the plant is moving forward with its EV36Zero project, which consists of three main elements: a new electric vehicle, a 12GWh gigafactory with the company’s battery partner Envision AESC, and a microgrid to deliver 100% renewable energy to Nissan and suppliers.

The brand-new Aston Martin DB12 is here following its unveiling last night. Being advertised as delivering a quantum shift in sporting character and dynamic capability, this marks the beginning of the next generation of the DB breed. The brand has certainly not been shy in pushing just how special they see this car being as it comes with the very powerful label of the World’s First Super Tourer.
Aston Martin say that the DB12 has been engineered to deliver exceptional performance and handling while also coming with a whole new level of luxury and style. Its chassis is perfectly matched to a class-leading 680PS/800NM V8 Twin-Turbo powertrain which has resulted in a driving experience that even the most demanding of drivers will enjoy.
Fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 5 S tyres which have been made to Aston Martin’s precise specifications and supported by an all-new suspension system featuring the latest adaptive dampers, the DB12 delivers incredible control and driver connection. An Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) system and an Electronic Rear Differential (E-Diff) further enhance the car’s handling and agility.
A new addition to the DB line would be exciting enough, but the DB12 comes at an extra special time, as 2023 marks 110 years of Aston Martin and 75 years since the introduction of the DB family. This new generation of Aston Martin sports cars takes us into a new era for the brand and is one that will bring heightened performance, technology, style, and craftsmanship.

Aston Martin DB12 Performance
Not much needs to be said about the performance of the DB12 as the numbers do a great job of speaking for themselves. With a 0-60mph time of 3.5 seconds, a top speed of 202mph comes from its hand-built 4-litre Twin-Turbo V8 engine. Performance has increased by 34% from its DB11 predecessor with the DB12 generating 680PS/671bhp at 6000rpm and 800Nm/590 lb-ft between 2750-6000rpm
This big jump in performance comes from modified cam profiles, optimised compression ratios, larger diameter turbochargers, and increased cooling. In fact, as there is increased thermal demand for the DB12 to deal with, the cooling system has been completely redesigned, with an additional two auxiliary coolers added to the existing central main radiator. To ensure that desired engine intake air temperatures are achieved in all conditions, an additional low-temperature radiator has been fitted to the charge cooler water circuit too.
Also, the auxiliary outboard engine oil cooler now has over double the face area of the DB11 in order to manage the demands on the lubrication circuit. A 56% increase in open apertures allows more cold air to flow into the radiators while the centrally-mounted bonnet vents allow hot air to escape.

Handling
8-speed automatic transmission and an Electronic Rear Differential (the first time this has been used on a DB model), deliver the vast power that the DB12 can unleash. This E-Diff can go from being fully open to completely locked in milliseconds which makes for precise and consistent handling.
When in GT mode, the Aston Martin DB12 is comfortable and incredibly refined but, change to Sport or Sport+ mode and the car hunkers down, responds even quicker and is even tighter in its level of control. Aston Martin has put a lot of effort into making sure that, despite the DB12’s responsiveness, it doesn’t respond aggressively. Instead, the car is intuitive and allows the driver to simply enjoy being behind the wheel of this very special car.
When it comes to the brakes, the standard option is cast-iron 400mm front discs and 360mm rear discs. However, these can be upgraded to Aston’s Carbon Ceramic Brake (CCB) option. Not only does this save 27kg compared to the standard brakes, but it also increases brake performance while reducing brake fade at temperatures of up to 800°C.
The DB12 is the first to use the new Michelin Pilot Sport 5 S tyres. This wasn’t quite good enough for Aston though so you will notice the tyres are marked with ‘AML’ codes to signify that they feature a bespoke compound, and have been tuned by the dynamics team at Aston Martin. They also feature noise-cancelling polyurethane foam inserts which reduce tyre ‘hum’ transmitted to the car’s interior by 20%.
To get the very best out of the DB12, the 21-inch forged alloy wheels are 8kg lighter than the previous 20-inch versions.
Exterior
The DB12 has a more muscular-looking body which is a clear nod to the power it can unleash. The front end is new and features a larger, re-shaped radiator aperture and splitter. Even the iconic Aston Martin wings badge on the nose is the latest evolution, further highlighting how the brand is moving into a new era of sports cars.
The aerodynamic profile of the car has also been improved thanks to the new smaller, and frameless wing mirrors, while the presenting door handles are the perfect way to enter the ultra-luxurious cabin.
Marek Reichman, Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer of Aston Martin said that the “DB12 is our design definition of a Super Tourer. Historically, the GT code among most contemporary enthusiasts meant some semblance of comfort, speed, and refinement. But since the Aston Martin customer is no ordinary motorist, and we no longer simply design objects in and of themselves, we’ve fused everything together on the DB12 — the handling, dynamics, powertrain, sense of space, and styling— and we’ve done it to the max through technology to deliver this new category of performance-design driving experience.

The latest addition to Aston Martin’s most illustrious bloodline, DB12 exemplifies the brand by boldly moving forward. The interior has also been completely redesigned, with clean horizontal lines emphasising the sense of space and providing the perfect contemporary backdrop for new a new state-of-the-art infotainment system. DB12 Interior
As you would expect from Aston Martin, the interior of the DB12 is something very special. It’s clean, and contemporary, and perfectly highlights the class-leading craftsmanship that the brand has become known for. Hand-stitched Bridge of Weir hides and stylish trim details create a driving environment that is meant to be enjoyed while your focus remains on getting the most out of your road trip. There are even new quilts that have been introduced with the DB12 to compliment the full leather or Alcantara interior.
The DB12 is all about evolution and moving into the next generation, so the infotainment system is entirely bespoke and has been designed and developed by Aston Martin themselves. This is actually the marque’s first in-house system and features a huge range of driving aids and entertainment options.

Aston Martin DB12

First deliveries of the DB12 are scheduled to begin during Q3 of this year so we don’t have long to wait to see the World’s First Super Tourer out on the road.
Hyundai has recently made a prototype Ioniq 5 that demonstrates a rather interesting feature – the ability to drive sideways!
Coming from Hyundai Mobis, the division of the brand that focuses on parts and developing autonomous driving, the e-Corner system was installed in the special Ioniq 5 to showcase its capabilities. The system involves each wheel having its own electric motor, electronic damper, and brake and steer-by-wire controls. All of this allows each wheel to drive, stop, and turn independently. It also means that the wheel modules can be freely fitted to different body styles without taking up space in the rest of the vehicle.
As each wheel can turn and drive independently, the e-Corner system allows the vehicle to drive in some very interesting ways. For example, all the wheels can turn 90 degrees which means you can move your vehicle sideways, in and out of a space that would usually require parallel parking. The system also allows you to turn your car on the spot by swivelling the wheels outward before driving them in opposite directions.
An Improved But Not Entirely New Technology
The e-Corner technology isn’t completely new as there have been other manufacturers that have experimented with using individual wheel motors in the past. However, this is the first time that full 90-degree steering is possible.
There still aren’t too many details available for this potentially industry-changing system. So far, Hyundai has said that it could be available around 2025 but there are still some obstacles to overcome before this becomes a reality. Getting the same levels of performance that are currently offered by existing EV technology seems to be a big focus.
Something else to consider is that drivers have been able to get by with a lot less complicated systems than this. While parallel parking would, undoubtedly, be made easier, some will see the e-Corner system as nothing more than a gimmick. That being said, the turning capabilities could certainly make driving on busy or narrow roads a whole lot easier.
The official theme for this year is anxiety. This theme was set by the Mental Health Foundation as part of their ‘Just’ Anxiety?’ campaign which aims to help people and organisations understand the difference between anxiety and anxiety disorders as well as building confidence in knowing what support is available to those who need it.

Mental Health Awareness Week first started in 2001 and has become an annual occurrence. It aims to help raise awareness of not only the various types of mental health issues but also to help reduce the stigma surrounding talking about them.
Talking can be a huge help for some people suffering from anxiety and other mental health issues. While medication and other forms of professional help may be needed, spending time with friends and family can go a long way in helping those who need it.
The Car Community And Mental Health
From car clubs and automotive events to sharing a common interest with others, the car community can be a great place to talk to people and spend time focussing on something you are passionate about.
Of course, this is not a solution or a cure for any mental health condition, however, it can give you the opportunity to temporarily alleviate some of the symptoms associated with mental health issues.

A good friend of Bridge Classic Cars, John Ryall, recently sent us some photos of The Cape 1000 – a grand touring rally that is considered by many to be the most beautiful drive in South Africa.
Described as “a motor vehicle rally paying homage to the various endurance rallies from a bygone era. Reimagined in the African context in what is arguably the most beautiful area on the southern tip of South Africa. This grand touring regularity rally that spans the ages from vintage, to classic to modern vehicles in five different categories creating a truly unique rally that inspires one’s soul and creates the most incredible lifelong memories and friends.”
The rally consists of driving 1600km over 4 days and, this year, featured 60 mostly modern cars.
As you can see from the images below, the rally looks impressive and it must have been an incredible drive for all those involved.

In 2022, more than 77,000 speeding offences were recorded in Kent alone. If that wasn’t worrying enough, over 500 drivers were actually recorded travelling at speeds in excess of 100mph, eight were caught going over 150mph, and one driver was found to be driving at 164mph on the M25.
These eye-opening numbers show a 23% increase in speeding offences since 2010.
Driving at high speeds carries huge risks, not only for the driver and passengers but also for innocent people who happen to be out on the road at the time.
Considering the speed limit on the M25 is 70mph, the drivers who were travelling at 150mph and beyond were moving at more than double the highest speed allowed.
Modern cars are usually equipped with a lot of safety features, so it’s likely that some drivers fall into a false sense of security and think they are safe enough to drive at such high speeds. With the reduced time to react to unexpected situations though, it may come as no surprise that 24% of traffic deaths are linked to someone driving at an inappropriate speed.
When asked about the increase in speed offences, Chief Inspector Craig West, who is head of roads policing at Kent Police, said: “There are still too many who travel at unacceptable speeds and put themselves and other road users at risk of serious harm”.
“Vehicles are potentially lethal weapons and the faster your speed, the less time you have to react to unforeseen hazards or mistakes from other drivers and the greater the impact any collision may be.”
While we all may be guilty of driving a little too fast at times, it would be hard to think of a reasonable excuse for going more than 150mph. Kent police continue to prioritise speeding as an area of focus and other forces around the country are likely to continue to do the same unless the dangerous driving is reduced.
When delivering classic cars, it’s always important to take extra care. Even small dings can cause much more damage than you might expect.
When a vintage Corvette was being delivered to its owner in America recently, much more care should have been taken to avoid the disaster that took place. As the classic car rolls off the back of the transporter and crashes down into the road, it certainly won’t be in the condition the owner would expect it to be in on delivery.

After months of research and development, the team here at Bridge Classic Cars are extremely excited to reveal the first stage prototype of our submarine car. Loosely based on an Amphicar 770, our Sub-A-Roo is now moving into the testing phase.
Once the roof is in place on this game-changing vehicle, the Sub-A-Roo will be able to stay underwater for several days without needing to resurface. Thanks to some incredible ingenuity from our team of technicians, provisions for 2 passengers for 2 days can be kept on board.
Reaching depths of up to 100 metres, underwater, the Sub-A-Roo can travel at speeds up to 20mph while a land speed of up to 35mph is also possible in the right conditions.
With a completion date planned for mid-October, mass production will hopefully begin in early 2024.

Princess Anne visited our neck of the woods recently, spending some time in Southwold where she went to the Adnams brewery. She visited the Suffolk coast as part of the 150th anniversary of Adnams.
A day before her trip to Southwold, the Princess Royal was in Ipswich where she commissioned the Horace & Hannah, a 1906 Great Yarmouth Shrimper boat, at the Old Custom House on the Waterfront. Princess Anne also officially opened the new joint police and fire station in the town too.
On being part of the Adnams celebrations, the Princess said that she was “delighted” to be invited and she hopes to “make sure that the skillset continues to exist, not forgetting the value it has in the future, nevermind the past”
It’s always exciting to see a member of the Royal family in the local area so we were very happy that Princess Anne was putting Suffolk in the news for a few days.
Olympian turned celebrity coach, Greg Whyte, was in Ipswich recently. As this is so local to us, we felt that we had to go and listen to him speak at the Ipswich Sporting Lunch Club, hosted at local restaurant Venue 16.
Greg spoke to a large audience of local business leaders and professionals about raising funds for SportsAid.
According to their research, SportsAid has found that, before becoming a household name, talented athletes will spend 10,000 hours and thousands of pounds to make it to elite level. Without funding and support from SportsAid, this simply would not be a feasible option for many promising sports stars of the future.
SportsAid Suffolk has already raised and distributed more than £300,000 to support young people in the county.
Some of the team here at Bridge Classic Cars recently had the opportunity to hear the story of Rogue Trader, Nick Leeson from the man himself.
For those who don’t know, Nick Leeson is a former trader who ended up in prison after he single-handedly bankrupted Barings Bank in 1995. Although he was ultimately convicted of fraud, Nick actually started his trading career as something of a future star. After making massive profits for Barings, Nick was moved to Singapore where he made his first unauthorised trades.
Nick’s role should have been cash-neutral for his employer, meaning that any profits and losses belonged to the client’s portfolios that he was managing. Barings Bank would get a commission for any successes but they wouldn’t lose any money in the trades. However, what was actually happening is that Nick was using the bank’s money to try and recoup trading losses.
Nick used the extremely risky strategy of betting double the amount of money lost to try and get the losses back while making a profit too. This ended up with Barings Bank losing a total of £827 million in 1995. This huge amount of money was double the bank’s trading capital and proved to be the beginning of the end for the 230-year-old bank.
While in prison, Nick wrote a book called Rogue Trader which subsequently was adapted into a film starring Ewan McGregor and Anna Friel in 1999.
Obviously, the actions of Nick Leeson impacted a huge number of people and there is still a strong element of controversy and emotion that surrounds him. That being said, hearing his story and his explanation of what was going on at the time was certainly very interesting and something that the team will remember.
