Good Day To Run The Bike Out

Now that the weather has been much more summery as of late, there have been some great biking days and, Bridge Classic Cars Director, Craig recently took his 2017 Ducati Scrambler 800 Cafe Racer out for a ride in the nice weather.

As you can see from the photos below, the bike looks incredible and was undoubtedly an exciting ride out.

Almost Up And Running

Our 1984 Suzuki GSX 400T has continued its restoration progress.

The headlamp bracket and the rear lights still need to be sorted and all of the electrics are currently being positioned out of sight.

The tank will be fitted soon. Once this is fitted, it can then be decided where the electrics will go. The tank has been lowered so space is more limited. The bike will also be rewired with a new harness as this will be more time effective than trying to make the existing wiring fit.

A KTM ignition switch that fits the top yoke should be able to be re-purposed so the positions include lights ‘on’. This means that just the starter button, horn button, and dip and main will be on the bars. The bike should be complete in around 10 days, although the exhaust still needs to be fitted up.

The footrests have been positioned 5-6″ further back so, when riding, you can stretch over the bike to get a more comfortable position. The only mechanical work left to do is the exhaust and fit the bodywork, and then the wiring will be finished before the bike gets up and running.

GSX400 Progress

Our 1984 Suzuki GSX400 has been with JAL Restorations for a little while now as they work on bringing this classic bike back to life.

While there have been several challenges and obstacles that have come up during the restoration/modification of the classic Suzuki twin, some positive steps in the right direction have been made too. Because of the custom nature of this particular GSX, the swing-arm has been modified and fitted to the bike. This was a lengthy process but, fortunately, the old rollers and bobbins were able to be reused.

9mm had to be removed from each side of the mounting cross-member and a countershaft to hold the bearing bobbins and spacer was required. Custom shims were then fitted on either side to act as grease retainers to make sure that the changes made to the swing-arm and the cross-member work together.

Shocks are currently being sourced now that the swing-arm and cross-member are installed and a seat is also needed. Once the seat has been found, the hoop length can be accurate or a custom build may be required. However, the rear hoop has been modified and is ready to fit.

There’s still a way to go before our 1984 Suzuki GSX400 will be finished but progress continues to be made towards its new future and that is an exciting thing to think about.

Behind the Scenes – Photoshoot with the 2021 FB Mondial 300

The latest addition to the Bridge Classic Cars Competitions line-up is this amazing 2021 FB Mondial 300. A retro-inspired sports bike that looks as good as it rides.

After being inspected by the workshop to check over each and every system on the bike, it was time to get it out to our filming location to get everything ready for the next competition.

This photoshoot was unique, in that it involved multiple riders. For this competition, we teamed up with the awesome Bike Like a Mum. Karina is a friend of Bridge Classic Cars who began her journey into the world of motorcycle riding and is documenting it across her social media channels.

Karina was the first rider. Although she had countless hours on her loyal 125cc, we got her to grab the 249cc sports bike by the scruff of the neck to film with. Throughout her time with the bike, she noted just how easy and long-legged this particular bike was and just how easy it was for a beginner rider to get to grips with and build up their confidence.

After that, it was time for Hayley’s turn on the FB Mondial 300. She jumped straight on and within a minute was comfortable with the motorbike to begin filming. During the shoot, Hayley also noted just how smooth and easy the bike feels going down the road for any rider of any experience.

Finally, our director Craig put his leathers on and had a go on the jet black retro-motorcycle down the runway of our filming location. And just like everyone who had ridden it, he came back smiling.

Back From Rebuild – The Carburettors for the 1977 Honda GL1000 Goldwing

The carburettors for Gordon, our directors, 1977 Honda GL1000 Goldwing are back from blasting and have been freshly rebuilt.

These are over at Chris Self Motorcycles with the rest of the bike being restored and rebuilt back to its original condition. The carburettors on the Goldwing are crucial for the 1000cc horizontally opposed 4 cylinder so they have been completely gone through by Chris Self to make sure there is no residual dirt anywhere within the carburettors.

If you like classic motorcycle restorations, keep an eye on the Bridge Classic Cars news page for more updates on the 1977 Honda GL1000 Goldwing.

Bike Spotting

Here at Bridge Classic Cars, we love anything with a motor and wheels. We’re lucky to have friends that share that love and have their own stunning machines. Two friends of Craig’s own these bikes seen below and we couldn’t help but share them with our followers.

Honda Goldwing Has Landed

On Friday we welcomed our 1977 Honda Goldwing GL1000 into HQ. Bought by Gordon as a restoration project, we’re looking forward to seeing this Goldwing spreading its wings this summer.

This striking blue classic was originally designed to tackle the US cruising market of Harley Davidsons in the early 1970’s and would soon become a catalyst of change in the motorbike world. With the Honda Goldwing soaring into the cross-country cruising market, this desirable cruiser soon became a firm favourite of motorcycle enthusiasts everywhere.

Suzuki Fuel Tank Redesign

Craig’s 1984 Suzuki GSX 400T has had its fuel tank redesigned by Clinton from Holdsworth Artisan Metal Craft. This has been done by reshaping the side panels to allow the rider’s knees to sit more comfortably around the sides. Although this is more of an aesthetic refurbishment, it’s still just as important.

Honda Goldwing Coming Soon

We’re welcoming this lovely Honda Goldwing GL1000 as part of our own collection, however, it will be sent to JAL Restorations for a freshen up. Stay tuned to follow this Goldwing’s restoration journey.

Welcome Back Home

Craig’s Suzuki GSX400 Custom has come back from Demand Engineering where the exhaust was being fitted. It was a tough decision between a short or long exhaust but the choice was made to go for the shorter option.

It is now ready to be reassembled and the rest of the refurbishments made!

It’s a black bits day…

The transformation of our 1984 Suzuki GSX400 is one step further forward today as we painted the metal components in the new satin black finish.

At the same time, we resprayed the repaired dash of our 1973 Triumph TR6, ready for rebuild.

Suzuki Cafe Racer strip down

We’ve ordered up a custom rear light strip from New Rage Customs. This will compliment our new ‘Bobber’ style seat and overall minimalistic look.

Paul has completely stripped the Suzuki, in preparation for sandblasting and then later, painting.

The next steps will be to refurbish the forks and the fuel tank.

Then once the frame is painted, we can prepare the entire bike for assembly with new parts.

Seat Arrives for our Cafe Racer Motorcycle Project

Our 1984 Suzuki GSX 400 T is being treated to a new seat as part of the Cafe Racer restoration. Originaly made for Triumph, the badge will be replaced when it’s fitted to our Suzuki.

Lots more for Paul to get his teeth stuck into on this exciting project in the new year.

Project Cafe Racer

The exciting Suzuki GSX 400T Cafe Racer project continues! We’ve stripped down the bike and are assessing which parts will be modified, which parts will be replaced and which parts will be surplus to requirements. We’ve had the engine running again and it looks to be in fairly good condition. Most of the work required on the bike will be cosmetic to fit it’s new, tougher Cafe Racer look. The next steps will see Paul, our motorcycle expert at Bridge Classic Cars Refurbishing parts that will be re-installed onto the motorcycle.
