Courtzz01 – October 2020

Our 1990 Austin Mini Thirty winner Courtney Barker couldn’t help but share this gushy Instagram post about her new toy!

“Always wanted one of these and still cant believe its mine!” – Well you better believe it Courtney, its certainly all yours!

Courtney has been a classic car fan since she was a child and has even set up her own car fan club – East Coast Japanese. She’s clearly been having so much fun with her new Mini, she’s forgotten to take pictures!

If you fancy winning your own classic Mini, we’re currently running a competition for someone to win this fantastic 1991 Rover Mini. To pick up your tickets, head to our competitions website.

Electric Classic Cars – October 2020

Our Austin Mini has sparked some online conversation!

We’ve teamed up with Electric Classic Cars to build the ultimate 300hp electric powered classic Mini. Our 1967 Austin Mini will appear on the upcoming series of Vintage Voltage, due to air on Quest.

Bridge Classic Cars has undertaken the bodywork preparation and paintwork. Our Paint Shop finished the vehicle in this dazzling ‘Surf Blue’.

The team at Electric Classic Cars have now begun installing the braking system. With 300+ horsepower now coursing through the wheels, this Mini was going to need a bit of an upgrade!

With over 3,000 likes, comments and shares, this little electric Mini certainly is a talking point! What do you think of the build? Spoiling an iconic classic or adapting to survive in the 21st century? We’ll keep you updated as the build progresses.

The Mini Moke is back!

Originally designed for the military, the Mini Moke hit the UK market in the 60’s after failed attempts to be used by the British Army.

It’s unusual stripped down chassis, with no doors or windows will certainly tests the boundaries of the Great British weather! Although new technology has been added to the otherwise very originally kept model, such as a heated windscreen and power steering.

A not-so-Mini Job!

Ady, our engine specialist, has completed an entire engine rebuild on our fabulous 1961 Morris Mini Deluxe.

“She’s literally had everything done” Ady explains. “Including new pistons, new bearings, a new gasket, an unleaded cylinder head fitted and a reconditioned gearbox.”

Now all the technical work on the engine is done, it’s time to get it into the paint shop to make it look pretty! A gorgeous green is the chosen colour, we can’t wait to see it finished.

Our Morris Mini is being kept as close to it’s original state as possible. Another Mini of ours is currently with Electric Classic Cars where’s it’s undergoing a full electric conversion. Check out the latest news on this project here.

The Mini’s A Headline Act

This week, the 1961 Morris Mini had her headliner stripped off by Brian in the trim shop.

“I’ve stripped off all the old fabric,” explains Brian, “then cleaned up all the metal frame ready to have the new cover made and attached.”

This project is coming along nicely so far, we can’t wait to see the new fabrics.

We’ve Got Front Row Seats For The Morris Mini

Following stripping the interior of the 1961 Morris Mini Deluxe, our trim shop extraordinaire Brian has been hard at work rebuilding this iconic beauty.

With the chairs stripped right back to the bare metal, Brian’s rebuilt the chairs starting with new rubber straps fixed to the frame. “I used hessian to line the base and stop damage,” he describes. “Then I added foam to the base, with extra foam added to bolster the front of each chair.” This is the slight curve you can see in the pictures and add to not only the look of the seats but to their comfort too.

Brian then attached the leather covers across the foam, using clips around the base and hog rings to hold the fabric in place.

We’re already so in love with this colour combination. The options really are limitless when it comes to classic car restorations!

1961 Morris Mini Deluxe Leaves the Paint Shop

Another major stage in the restoration of our 1961 Mini has been hit. Darren has completed painting the body shell. After a polish it’s looking absolutely stunning in the sunlight.

Our Mini has been painted in the original cherry red paint colour. This is a much stronger red than the more maroon tone of the Mini 30’s cherry red paint.

Smashing work, Darren. When paired with the cream wheels and details, this little mini will look incredible.

Surf’s Up: Our ‘Surf Blue’ 1967 Austin Mini 850 Mini

Darren has now completed painting our Austin Mini. He’s now completed the external painting in ‘Surf Blue’. This colour choice works so well on a Mini of this age, simply gorgeous. The cream roof compliments the blue superbly.

Wonderful work, Darren.

It’s now heading back to Ted at the Mini Centre to continue restoring this lovely classic. This Mini is being converted to run on a completely electric motor. We cannot wait to see this vehicle when Ted completes the restoration.

Two Vehicles Depart the Bridge Classic Car Showroom This Week

Our 1962 TVR Grantura Racecar and our 1993 Mini Rio have both left the showroom this week.

Our gorgeous collectable classic Grantura was registered to TVR in 1962. BEM 885 was raced with an MGA engine until the engine failed. It was taken back to TVR’s factory and changed to a sunbeam rapier engine that is still in place to this day. We are delighted to hear the new owner plans to restore and race the vehicle.

Originally adorned in the TVR race colours of white with blue stripes. It’s been painted different colours over the years and is now in a lovely deep claret.

BEM885 was raced very successfully in the early 60s, initially by Arne Lambe and W R Bennet. It was later hill climbed by Geoff Taylor. It was regularly seen in the early 80s at Prescott when it was owned by Douglas Mainstone and once restored, will grace the racetrack once more.

The 1993 Mini Rio is a lovely little classic with tonnes of potential. It is uneconomical for us to restore, however it perfectly suits a home restoration. And that is exactly what’s in store for this lovely mini. A father and son team from Cambridgeshire will be embarking on this project. We cannot wait to hear how they get on giving this Mini a new lease of life.
