Jonn has continued his work on our 1973 MGB Roadster. Here are his notes:
Continue repairs. Restick all, carpets in boot. Investigate reverse lights not working. Found offside light not connected and bulb blown in nearside. Replace bulb and test, ok. Refit spare and secure. Check heater fan not working. No power to fan. Wire direct to live and fan works. So investigate switch. Remove switch and found a wire off. Reconnect and test, ok. Replace bulbin interior light. Light now works but switch broken so will only work when turned on and not from door pin switches. Raise and remove front anti roll bar D bushes. Tape up bar and refit bushes. Attend to running issues. Remove suction Chambers and pistons from both carbs. Clean out float bowls and blow out. Clean parts. Set jet depths to approx 1 mm. Rebuild and start up.
Back in January last year, Steve won our 1975 MGB GT V8 through Bridge Classic Cars Competitions. Since then, Steve has become a great friend to the team here.
This past weekend Steve took his MGB (now called Velma) to the Inter-club International Weekend at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern.
Not only does Velma look incredible in Steve’s photos below, but Steve also reported that she made the 340-mile round trip with no issues at all!
It’s fantastic to see winners enjoying their classic so thank you Steve for sharing this trip with us.
Our 1970 MGB Roadster is coming to the end of its time here at Bridge Classic Cars.
Jonn has been refitting parts to the engine now the engine is fitted. After filling it with oil, he removed the spark plugs and coil lead. He then cranked the engine over until oil pressure was made.
The spark plugs were refitted and the coil lead. The oil level was checked and topped up and Jonn attempted to start the car.
After charging the battery, the car wouldn’t fire. The spark plugs were checked and found to be ok. Fuel to the carbs was checked and found to be ok too.
Jonn removed the rocker cover to align the timing marks. He removed the distributor cap and checked the timing was ok. After resetting the distributor, the cap was refitted and a small amount of petrol was poured into the carbs which let the engine fire on cranking.
Jonn stripped the carbs and found the jets were set too high, and running a very weak mixture. He set the jet depths to approx 2 1/2 turns down (0.090″). The car then started and ran fine so Jonn refitted the radiator and fan.
After finishing checking over the engine and finding no leaks upon inspection this morning, the bonnet was fitted and adjusted. The car was taken outside and ran up to temperature. A leak from the top radiator hose was found so Jonn tightened the jubilee clip but still noticed a leak. A second jubilee clip was fitted behind first and secured, (it had 2 clips on when it came in) which resolved the leak.
Jonn noted that the fan cuts in ok so a road test was carried out. The road test was successful after Jonn stopped to secure the distributor and adjust the idle speed.
Our MGB Roadster was tested at all speeds up to 65mph in stop/start traffic conditions and all was fine.
After the engine of our 1970 MGB Roadster had its engine prepped and painted in the Bridge Classic Cars paintshop, classic car technician Jonn reassembled it.
He refitted the painted parts and ancillaries and refitted the oil pump with new gaskets (pump filled with engine grease to avoid cavitation). He then fitted the new main bearing nuts and washers and retorqued to 95nm. Jonn went on to pre-oil all moving parts before fitting the sump and securing it.
To get the engine back into the car, Jonn mounted the engine on the engine crane so he could rub it down and paint the steering rack and column. The engine was then put back into the car.
Our 1970 MGB Roadster has been in the Bridge Classic Cars paintshop with technician Mauro.
Mauro has been rubbing down the car after primer before prepping it for paint. Once the prep had been completed, the body of the car went into the paint booth for a new coat of paint.
While our 1970 MGB Roadster is in the Bridge Classic Cars workshop, it has been in the car of one of our fabricators, Monty.
Monty has welded a front wing trip piece onto the car as it needed repair.
The front wings then went into the paintshop where Mauro applied epoxy primer to them.
Classic car technician Jonn has been working on our 1980 MGB GT in preparation for it to be won through Bridge Classic Cars Competitions very soon.
After charging the battery, Jonn inspected and cleaned the brakes and was happy with their condition. A new choke cable was fitted and the tappets were adjusted. Jonn went on to clean the rocker cover ready for a new gasket to be fitted.
The jet depths were set and our MGB GT is now almost ready to go to the lucky winner when the live draw takes place in a few days time.
Our 1980 MGB GT is live on the Bridge Classic Cars Competitions website.
Coming with an extensive history file containing invoices, MOT certificates, and a collection of photographs showing the car undergoing restorative work pre-2010, it is clear that this car has been kept by proud and caring owners throughout its life.
You can enter the draw to be in with a chance of winning this popular classic now!
We recently welcomed our 1980 MGB GT into the Bridge Classic Cars workshop. In an eye-catching shade of yellow, with an equally as beautiful black interior with yellow piping, we are very excited to have this as a competition car for Bridge Classic Cars Competitions.
Once it has been inspected by the workshop team, it will soon be live and ready to win.
After he won our 1975 MGB GT V8 back in January, our good friend Steve is clearly still enjoying his classic car, and making good use of it, as you can see from his social media posts below.
It seems that Steve isn’t the only one who admires ‘Velma’ as the car is now known.
Our 1980 MGB GT is currently live on the Bridge Classic Cars Competitions website and will be won very soon.
Before then though, classic car technician Jonn has been doing some work on it to make sure it is ready for its new owner. This started with a new ignition switch being fitted before the carburettors, heatshield, and engine side covers were removed ready to be serviced.
Our 1980 MGB GT will soon be won and we are very much looking forward to seeing it arrive with the lucky winner, whoever that may be.
Entry is now open for our 1980 MGB GT on the Bridge Classic Cars Competitions website.
This type of classic car is always popular so we are very excited to see someone win it on the 4th of July 2023.
After undergoing an aesthetic restoration, our MGB GT has been refinished in Vermillion Orange, which pairs beautifully with its grey-striped interior and full-length sunroof.
You can enter the draw to be in with a chance of winning our 1980 MGB GT for the launch sale price of just ยฃ7.50. Once the launch sale ends, the price will increase to ยฃ8. Competitions MGBs have a habit of selling out fast and we are expecting this one to be the same.
Classic car technician Jonn has been conducting a service on our 1980 MGB GT in preparation for it to be won through Bridge Classic Cars Competitions.
While servicing the car, he found the fuel sender was faulty and, upon removal, he noticed that the fuel hose from the sender was not a fuel-specific hose and, consequently, split as it was removed.
Jonn removed the fuel sender before fitting and wiring in a new one.
As our 1978 MGB GT is leaving us again, after returning for some repairs to the paint and the engine, we thought it would be great to take some photos of this beautiful classic car before it goes back to its owner.
It has come a long way since it first arrived at the Bridge Classic Cars workshop and we are very happy to see it in its finished form.
Since our 1978 MGB GT returned to the Bridge Classic Cars workshop recently, classic car technician Rob has removed the engine and installed a new DAB radio.
The engine was removed in order to replace the crankshaft rear oil seal. Removing the engine from a classic car is never a small job but the experienced workshop team were able to get things done in preparation for our MGB GT to go back to its owner again soon.
Our 1980 MGB GT has been in the skilled hands of classic car technician Jonn as he continues to prepare it to be won through Bridge Classic Cars Competitions.
He aligned the timing marks to top dead centre on cylinder 1. The distributor was also removed, cleaned, rebuilt, and refitted to the engine.
Now that this work has been done, our 1980 MGB GT is one step closer to being won in the near future.
After recently returning to the Bridge Classic Cars workshop, our 1978 MGB GT has been in the paint shop with technician Chris.
The paintwork that our classic MGB GT needed has now been completed and the car looks great and will soon be returned to its owner.
Our 1980 MGB GT will soon be available to win through Bridge Classic Cars Competitions. However, before that happens, classic car technician Jonn has been making some repairs and improvements to this eye-catching classic car.
A new wing mirror base plate was fitted and the mirror secured in place. Jonn also fitted a new horn/indicator stalk.
The paintwork where the radiator mounts was cleaned and the fan guard was removed for painting. Once this was painted, it was re-fitted and now looks much improved.
Classic car technician Jonn has been working on our 1963 MGB Roadster by fitting a new starter to try and resolve the starting issues the car has been experiencing.
When Jonn was trying to remove the old starter, he was unable to remove it from the engine bay as it was too big to come out without first grinding through the starter shaft. After Jonn had done this, the old starter was removed and a new one was fitted. The new starter was much smaller than the original and fitted with ease into our classic MGB.
Our 1971 MGB Convertible has been the focus of classic car technicians John and Jonn recently as they have been fitting a new alternator and completing other work on the car too.
New headlights were fitted to our MGB Convertible. Before this was done though, the ring surrounds were cleaned and polished. After the new lights were fitted, the beam patterns were adjusted and the chrome surrounds were re-fitted.
Classic car technician Jonn has been busy installing seatbelts into our returning 1963 MGB Roadster.
During the installation, Jonn found that the hole in the seatbelt mount needed enlarging so it would fit the spacers that he had made. Once this had been done, the spacer fit perfectly and was ready to be put into the car.
Jonn fitted the offside seatbelt first and secured it in place. Once he was happy it was functioning properly, he repeated the process on the nearside of the vehicle.
Our 1980 MGB GT, which will soon be available to win through Bridge Classic Cars Competitions, has been under the care of classic car technician Jonn.
Jonn has fitted new rear fog lights to our classic MGB.
After fitting both the offside and the nearside lights, he tested them to make sure they were working correctly. Once he was happy that they were, our 1980 MGB GT moved one step closer to being won in the near future.
Our 1971 MGB Convertible has been with classic car technician Jonn, ready to get it prepared to go through an MOT.
As this beautiful classic car had been off the road for quite some time, it came into the Bridge Classic Cars workshop for our team of technicians to get it back into road-worthy condition. Now that the work has been completed, and the car is ready to go back to its owner, it has gone through one final check to make sure it can pass its MOT.
The offside rear wheel bearing was adjusted ready for a new split pin and wheel to be fitted.
Classic car technician Jonn has been working on our 1980 MGB GT in preparation for it to go live on the Bridge Classic Cars Competitions website.
After being painted and then put back together, Jonn was checking the car over when he discovered that the horn was not working. During his investigation, Jonn traced the fault back to a broken wire at the horn connection inside the switch.
Once this was repaired, the horn worked as it should and our MGB GT is one step closer to being won in the very near future.
