Rewire – Removing the Old Wiring from the 1971 Bristol 411

The workshop at Bridge Classic Cars are busy removing the old wiring from the 1971 Bristol 411 ahead of its rewire by the team.
Our workshop manager John has been carefully tracing the wiring from front to back on the classic Bristol to make notes on how the new harness will need to be laid out into the car and routed. This involved removing the interior and some of the carpet in order to fully chase the old harness and make a full map of the wiring.
Ford Escort Twin Cam Re-Wiring

John, from Baylham Automotive Solutions has been working on our 1969 Ford Escort Twin Cam which needs a full rewire to modernise the loom to be compatible with modern features. The majority of the loom is in good condition and John has found that 90% of it simply needs to be cleaned and restored however there are parts that need to be made up and modified such as a modified headlight relay and the dynamo converted to an alternator.
Spitfire In For Service

Scott has been working on our 1971 Spitfire to identify the source of an oil leak. He discovered that it was the timing cover gasket so we’ve ordered a new part to fix it. Scott then had to fix the heater vent control lever as it was jammed and then look at a poor starting issue. Scott tried turning the idle speed up as it was very low. In doing so he noticed that some fuel lines had perished so he has replaced those too.
Electric Classic Cars – February 2021

Eye spy a little turquoise mini! A little while ago, we worked on a 1967 Austin Mini 850 for Electric Classic Cars who aimed to turn it into a 300hp electric-powered classic.
Bridge Classic Cars worked on restoring this charming mini and handed it over Electric Classics to finish. Our final touch was the bodywork preparation and paintwork. Our Paint Shop finished the vehicle in a dazzling ‘Surf Blue’.
We love following its progress and can’t wait to see the finished product!
Nissan 300ZX Gets Cold Feet

We discovered what seems to be a wiring issue in the engine of our 1988 Nissan 300ZX. After taking an intensive look, Ady diagnosed the problem to possibly be a cold starting issue with the choke. Although this is situated in the engine, it’s more of an electrics issue.

Meet The Team: Adam

Its another Monday and the 5th instalment of our Meet The Team series! This week we meet Adam, our electric specialist.
Adam is our youngest member of the team however he comes with a vast amount of experience in the car engineering industry. Although he’s currently our electrical specialist, Adam has worked in both electrics and car interiors.
Adam first started with a local automotive company where he worked on re-upholstering vehicle interiors, spending a lot of time on Toyotas. During this time he worked towards an apprenticeship in Manual Handling.
He then moved on to working with high-performance cars at BF1 Systems where he was involved in building wiring looms for F1 cars, touring cars and high-end motorsports vehicles. Adam also worked as part of a team that produced a wiring loom for the Ferrari F1 team. Whilst working here, Adam also went through in house training alongside one of the pioneering engineers in the British racing scene. Not only that, but Adam was also studying an apprenticeship at Poultec in Norwich building parts fo Speedway bikes.
In February 2019, Adam joined Mercedes AMG HPP where he was building wiring looms for F1 cars and assisting with the formula e-cars.
With such an impressive experience so far, it’s a great pleasure to welcome Adam to the team as one of our most recent additions in the workshop.
Adam told us about his eagerness to continue to learn and grow, wanting to pick up more knowledge about various aspects of the industry. We hope to be able to further his experience in electrics as well as expand his knowledge in mechanical engineering.
“I’d like to continue with this career, I want to learn each aspect within the car industry, so having done car interiors and car electrical work, I would like to go on to be capable with engines and more of a mechanics role because ultimately I want to be building cars in my spare time”
For each member we look up their car of the year, the car that we’ve picked for Adams birth year is the Mercedes CLK GTR which also happens to be his dream track car!
Morris Minor Has Its Wires Crossed

The Morris Minor 1000’s indicator stalk had some soldering that our technician Adam found to have perished with age. It was originally covered in tape which had begun to unwind.
To fix the issues, Adam re soldered and covered the wires with heat shrink covering to ensure no liquids or debris can interrupt the solder joints.

The Amphicar is getting closer to being water worthy! We’ve installed a bow light with a stern light also optional, which can be taken on and off when needed. This means when the Amphicar is out on the water at night, other ships can see it!
Adam, our electrical specialist has also redone the connection block. This has been refurbished to make them easier to access if any repairs or tweaking has to be done in future!
With these fixes made, the Amphicar is steadily getting closer to completion after its recent boat MOT. You can see the check list we were provided below:
A workshop Triumph

Although it has a long road ahead of it, we’re already pleased by the progress the TR5 is making.
Our Triumph TR5 is set to have the full works here at Bridge Classic Cars. As a long-standing restoration project, we have some big plans for this car.
So far in its journey, it has had all the bodywork done by our classic car technician Mauro, the electrics done by Adam, and the engine work carried out by our engine specialist Ady.
The body has been mounted to the chassis in what Mauro tells us was the most challenging part.
“You have to allow room between the chassis and the body to enable the perfect fit. It’s hard to get it all to line up perfectly.”
With the doors having been added to the body, the TR5 is starting to take shape. It’s a meticulous and time consuming process, but is a crucial stage in this car’s restoration.
Mauro has just finished up our Triumph TR6 restoration project, meaning he’s becoming quite the specialist in working with Triumphs.
Adam has recently installed the wiring loom as well which can be seen below.
The front side lights and back side lights have also recently been fitted and are ready to be accompanied by the headlights.
Within the body of the car, the hand brake cables, prop shaft, gearbox mounting, and fuel pump have all been fitted by classic car technician, Mauro.
Next on the agenda is to fit its headlights, engine, water pump, exhaust manifold, and fan among many other modifications.
Our flashy ’51 MG TD
