A recent survey of 2,000 drivers across 17 major cities by YourParkingSpace, found that Norwich is the UK’s worst city for parking based on cost, stress, availability, and convenience. However, Liverpool was found to be the best.
In Norwich, nearly a third of drivers (32%) said parking is too expensive. A quarter (26%) also complained about a lack of spaces resulting in Norwich scoring a frustration rating of 94 out of 100, which earned the title of worst place to park.
Southampton was second worst with a frustration score of 88.36, due to high costs (26%), trouble finding spots near local amenities (25%), and general stress (17%). London took third place at 83.79, with similar complaints about price and availability.
Glasgow and Newcastle followed, with frustration scores of 80.26 and 78.51 respectively. In both cities, drivers complained about a lack of affordable and conveniently located spaces.
On the other end of the results, Liverpool scored just 37.79 in its frustration score making it the most parking-friendly city in the country. Local drivers there reported high satisfaction for both value and safety. Other strong performers included Nottingham (47.74), Edinburgh (52.14), Sheffield (54.94), and Plymouth (57.83), all coming in well below the national average frustration score of 68.95.
“Parking can make or break a trip into town, and our new UK Parking Index shows just how big the gap is between the easiest and most frustrating cities to park in. High costs, limited availability, and stressful conditions can put drivers off visiting city centres altogether – but the good news is that many of the issues can be avoided by pre-booking a space, ensuring it’s guaranteed, good value, and close to your destination.”
