Jaguar has officially confirmed the name of its upcoming luxury four-door GT, the Jaguar Type 01.
The new electric GT has been designed as part of Jaguar’s long-standing focus on originality, combining a dramatic presence with what the company describes as a unique driving character. The Type 01 name itself carries significant meaning for the brand, bringing together Jaguar’s heritage with its future direction.
The ‘Type’ designation references some of Jaguar’s most iconic models, beginning with the Le Mans-winning C-type in 1951 before continuing through road cars such as the E-type and later the F-TYPE. Historically, these cars combined performance with refinement, something Jaguar says remains central to the new Type 01.
For the new model, the ‘0’ represents fully electric propulsion and zero tailpipe emissions, while the ‘1’ represents the first vehicle in Jaguar’s next-generation line-up.
The Type 01 name will feature on the car’s new strikethrough motif where the bonnet meets the windscreen, alongside bold linear graphics that Jaguar says will become a signature design element for future models. Built on an all-new architecture and designed, developed, and manufactured in the UK, the Type 01 is set to be Jaguar’s most powerful production car ever made. The company claims its tri-motor setup will produce more than 1,000PS and over 1,300Nm of torque.
“We have reimagined Jaguar for a new era, with inspiration from what has gone before. Our engineers have achieved this with a vehicle that looks and drives like no other electric car, yet reflects a unique provenance. The Type 01 name is part of that story – for me, the zero also signifies a complete brand reset, and the ‘1’, our first car for a new chapter, a ‘one of a kind!”
