While we were on our great northern road trip, Craig spent the day at the “Peaks Sale” auction hosted by H&H Classics. Held at the Pavilion Gardens in Buxton, the auction saw nearly 100 lots sold, with total sales going above £1.7 million and over 70% of vehicles finding new homes.

A 1961 Jaguar MkII ended up stealing the show, selling for £76,500. Amazingly, this was more than £36,000 above its lower guide price.

The MkII Jaguar was a 3.8-litre manual with overdrive from The Loch Lomond Collection. It generated lots of attention due to its high specification and extremely high standard of restoration.

The most expensive sale of the day was a 1953 Bentley R-Type ‘Le Mans’ Style Open Tourer by Paul Forty, also from The Loch Lomond Collection, that sold for £150,000.

There were several more cars that far exceeded their estimates. These included a rare right-hand drive 1962 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL, which sold for £74,250, over £14,000 above its estimate, and a restored 1961 Chevrolet Corvette went £12,000 over its estimate, eventually selling for £67,500.

Craig was the winning bidder on a couple of cars that have now made their way back to the Bridge Classic Cars workshop – our 1988 Volkswagen Golf GTI and our 2004 Alpina Roadster S.
