Caterham will show the first fully functional prototype of its all-electric Project V sports coupé at the Tokyo Auto Salon on 9th January 2026.

The prototype has been assembled at TOKYO R&D in Japan, and is now deep into its testing phase. Early development work is focusing on the integration and evaluation of its Yamaha Motor-supplied e-axle, as well as overall chassis durability.

A major element of the testing programme is the CTP (cell-to-pack) battery system, developed with XING Mobility. The unit features an advanced cooling setup where the cells are directly immersed in dielectric fluid, designed to keep temperatures consistent and performance stable under load. The aim is to deliver high energy density with a focus on safety and sustained output.

Visitors to the Tokyo show will find the prototype on display alongside contributions from key development partners Yamaha Motor and XING Mobility.

Ahead of the Tokyo reveal, the Project V show car will also make its US debut at CES in Las Vegas on 6th January 2026, offering American audiences their first in-person look at Caterham’s electric future.

Caterham says the testing programme will continue throughout 2026 as it works with Yamaha, XING Mobility, and TOKYO R&D to refine the car for production.

“This is a significant milestone in the development of Project V, with our prototype making its public debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon. This next step enables us to begin a comprehensive vehicle testing program in collaboration with our technical partners. Our objective remains unchanged: to realise our vision of a pure electric sports car that embodies the unmistakable DNA of a Caterham.”
