Goodbye To Our C-Type

Back in September 2021, work began in the Bridge Classic Cars workshop to build our Bridge C-Type replica.

Now, just over 3 years later, the project is complete and the car is off to its new home. Before it left us, we had to take some final photos of one of the most beautiful cars of all time!

A C-Type Complete

Here are Jonn’s notes as he finishes off our 2022 Bridge C-Type Replica:

Bridge Classic Cars at the Festival of Classic & Sports Cars at Helmingham Hall

We had the privilege of being the headline sponsors of the Festival of Classic & Sports Cars at Helmingham Hall this past weekend, and it was a huge success. As the main sponsors, we wanted to make a big impression, and we’re thrilled to say we think we did just that!

A Stand to Remember

Our stand proved to be very popular with visitors to the show. Thanks to the incredible canvas setup from Events Under Canvas, we had a comfortable and inviting space. The seating area was perfect for people to relax, chat, and enjoy the cars. It wasnโ€™t just about the vehicles for us; it was about creating a great atmosphere where everyone could share their love for classic cars.

Interesting & Unique Vehicles

The real stars of our stand were the rare and interesting classic cars and bikes we had on display. Each one had its own story such as our 1905 Riley 9HP, 1939 Jaguar SS100, 2022 C-Type Replica, or our beautiful 1959 Ford Zephyr.

All of the cars on our stand generated a lot of interest and got lots of attention. The whole team were very excited to talk to people about each one and tell their stories.

The Live Draw

One of the highlights of the day was our live draw to find the winner of our stunning 1958 Austin Healey 100/6. As it ended up being a local winner, we were hopeful he might be in attendance at the show but, unfortunately, it wasn’t to be and we had to settle with speaking to him on the phone.

A Day of Fun and Team Spirit

The whole day was great fun for both the visitors and our team. We enjoyed every moment, from setting up the stand to chatting with fellow enthusiasts.

Very simply…itโ€™s days like these that remind us why we love what we do.

Looking Forward to Next Year

As we packed up at the end of the day, we were already excited about next yearโ€™s event. Weโ€™re eager to build on this yearโ€™s success and bring even more excitement to the Festival of Classic & Sports Cars at Helmingham Hall. Weโ€™re brainstorming ideas to make our stand even bigger and better and can’t wait to share our plans.

Why We Love Being Part of the Classic Car Community

Being part of the classic car community is more than just a business for us; itโ€™s a passion and a privilege. Events like these allow us to connect with fellow enthusiasts, share our love for these beautiful machines, and contribute to the preservation of automotive history. Weโ€™re proud to support and sponsor events that bring people together and celebrate the artistry and craftsmanship of classic cars and the Festival of Classic & Sports Cars certainly does that.

Helmingham Hall

For those whoโ€™ve never been, the Festival of Classic & Sports Cars at Helmingham Hall is an amazing event. The stunning backdrop of Helmingham Hall adds to the huge range of cars on display. With its beautiful gardens and historic architecture, itโ€™s the perfect setting for a day dedicated to appreciating the beauty and history of classic vehicles.

Thank You

We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who visited our stand, participated in the live draw, and shared their stories and passion with us. A big shoutout to Events Under Canvas for providing such a fantastic setup. And, of course, congratulations to the lucky winner of the 1958 Austin Healey 100/6, Jeremey, we hope you enjoy many miles with it.

See You Next Time

If you missed out this year, donโ€™t worryโ€”thereโ€™s always next year! Weโ€™re already counting down the days and planning how to make our presence at the Festival of Classic & Sports Cars at Helmingham Hall even more memorable.

In the meantime, keep an eye on our website and social media for updates on upcoming events.

Thank you for making the Festival of Classic & Sports Cars at Helmingham Hall such a wonderful experience for us at Bridge Classic Cars. Hereโ€™s to many more successful events.

2024 Festival of Classic & Sports Cars set up and take down.

Set up began early for us on this year’s stand at the Festival of Classic & Sports Cars at Helmingham Hall Gardens. The week prior to the event was glorious sunshine all week and the forecast looked good going in to the weekend so with that in mind we started the installation of the stretch tent from our friends at Events Under Canvas on the Thursday. That meant we were able to start transporting our vehicles over to site and start to lay out the display.

It was certainly less hectic this year having time on our side and the centre tent was a new feature for us this year which was an exciting new addition.

Sunday morning was a bit of a breeze to be honest. A few banners and flags to put up and then we could sit down as a team, grab a coffee and enjoy the surroundings.

The day itself is always so busy at the show that you don’t really get time to enjoy what else is there. This year especially, I didn’t even get to leave the stand so I didn’t manage to see any of the cars on display but Nick, Molly and Rob got to enjoy it a bit more when they were out and about filming the show.

You can check out the proper photos from the day here

And after a full on day which was a huge success, I think the part that was truly quite special was being the last to leave the site after clearing down. I dropped Tamas back off by his car on the top field and then had the opportunity to look back at the incredible all. A few hours previous to these photos the fields were bustling with thousands of cars and spectators all enjoying the atmosphere.

The Festival of Classic & Sports Cars is one of the best shows of the year for us and this year was one of the best of all time. Thank you so much to the team at Helmingham and we are so proud to be a big part of this show and hope to continue our relationship for many years to come.

C Type Adjustments

The two Johns have been working on our 2022 Bridge C-Type Replica. New torsion bar adjusters were fitted and the undershields were removed along with the speedo drive. The undershields were cleaned while the speedo drive was adjusted.

Revisions to our 2022 Bridge C-Type

Our workshop team have been working on fine tuning our 2022 Bridge C-Type as part of the cars sign off. The team at the Bridge Classic Cars workshop, have taken the car out on test multiple times and worked on a list of revisions which need to be done to the car. Firstly, the suspension.

It was noted that the front suspension of the car sits too high, so during the process of lowering the ride height our technician, Jon, noted that the threads on the adjusters have become damaged and were very poor in their design and fitment. So, the units have been removed from the car in order for the team to engineer a new, improved solution.

At the same time, the team wanted to take a look at the Dynometer. For this, Jon slackened off the auxiliary belt to remove the pulley so it could be measured. After inspection, Jon found the issue was that the pulley size was too large and a new, smaller pulley is being sourced for the car.

C-Type Final Fit Up

Jonn has begun the final fit-up of our 2022 Bridge C-Type Replica. He fitted the rear reflectors before attaching the number plate. He then fitted and secured the boot lid cover.

The front grille and badge were then remounted.

Closer and Closer – Getting the last few remaining jobs done on the 2022 Bridge C-Type

The workshop team are crossing off the last few remaining jobs left to do on our 2022 Bridge C-Type Replica with Jon and John working their way around the homage to the greatest era of sports car racing.

Here’s what they’ve been up to: ”Remove rear wheels. Cut rear suspension bolts and replace with new bolts fitted the other way round. Drill out rivets in nearside rear arch and apply sealer. Re drill and re rivet. Trim off excess alloy front arch liner. Seal boot to body area under fuel tank above rear axle. Refit wheels. Adjust and tighten mirrors. Drill and fit fire extinguisher between seats.”

More progress on our 2022 Bridge C-Type Replica

The workshop team at Bridge Classic Cars have been making progress on our 2022 Bridge C-Type Replica. Everyday the car gets closer and closer to completion and with that, the list of major jobs get smaller.

Recently, our workshop manager has been checking off some of the smaller jobs on the tribute to a Le Mans legend. This time he has fitted the leather straps which hold down the spare wheel as well as the side reflectors onto the car.

Calibrating the C-Type Brantz

John and Jon have been out this weekend calibrating the Brantz historic rally navigation unit, fitted to our C-Type replica.

The unit installed on our car has the remote speedo and distance indicator. Sensors on the prop shaft and front wheel ensure that the greatest speed accuracy occurs.

The calibration process involves driving the vehicle on a long straight and setting the markers at various points in the journey. The process is then replicated a number of times to set up the distance accuracy.

Fitting the new registration to our C-Type

With our C-Type project coming to an end and the car due to begin road testing imminently, it was time to get the cars very special and personal registration onto the car.

This numberplate is holds a special place in our director Gordons heart so its only fitting it is fitted to the latest ‘special’ built by the team here at our Suffolk HQ. Our technician Jon did the honours of fitting the registration to the car. This was challenging due to the shape of the front end of the C-Type, so the sticker actually had to be sectioned into 2 in order to be fitted cleanly to the front of the C-Type.

Our C-Type back from paint protection

Our C-Type is now back in the building after being with a local specialist to have its paint protection film (PPF) applied to the bonnet and front wings of the car.

This is to help protect all the hard work by the Bridge Classic Cars paint and body team from stone chips and any other debris which will come into contact with the front of the car as its out and about on the open road.

Fixing the Lights and Transporting Our C-Type

With our C-Type getting closer and closer to being completed every day, the team have had a few jobs to do before the car was due to be transported to a local specialist to protect the Seafoam Green paintwork for many years to come.

First up, the team had some repairs to do on the headlights of the Le Mans homage. Jon, one of our restoration technicians, had swap over some of the wiring for the car on the offside before refitting the covers back on. In putting the covers back on for the final team, the team head up the perspex covers and then fix them into place with the tapped holes with the shape also taped to the car to ensure they fit perfectly.

After that, the car was loaded into our enclosed trailer to be transported to a local paint protection company for the next phase of its journey.

Workshop Walkaround – A Few Projects

With the team here at Bridge Classic Cars always working on something, whether that be the restorations technicians in the various departments, the marketing team or the leadership teams, we are all focused around our incredible workshop.

We’re all incredibly lucky to be able to be surrounded by these cars on a daily basis and every day is different as each project is unique and individual.

For example, the cars which are currently in the workshop – span nearly 115 years between them. From our 1905 Riley 9HP which Steve has been preparing ahead of its first drive all the way up to our 2022 Bridge C-Type which is also being readied for its maiden voyage in its period-correct trim. In between those extremes, is our 1939 Jaguar SS100 which Julian has been working on reassembling after a spring change and our 1958 Austin-Healey 100/6 (which was recently removed from a local barn) is being recommissioned and shown a bit of TLC.

Almost There

Our 2022 Bridge C-Type Replica is getting closer and closer to being finished and ready to get out on the road.

Jonn has been continuing his work recently. Here are his notes:

Trim and fit under dash cover. Modify slightly as brantz wiring interferes with fit. Secure in place. Fit seat runners to drivers seat mountings and space up accordingly. Fit passengers seat. Mock up and remove to drill fixing holes in case. Elongate holes to allow room for alignment with floor. Again, space up accordingly. Fit drivers seat. Elongate front holes to match runner mounting points and secure. Slide seat backwards and adjust mirrors close to final position. Make small grub screw for gear knob. Polish gear knob and fit and secure.

Polishing A C-Type

Jonn has been looking after our 2022 Bridge C-Type Replica.

Here are his notes:

Continue to work through list of jobs. Drill, dash and fit passengers grab handle. Secure all wiring under dash. Mask up areas around interior and polish alloy inside. Work slowly through car around inside panels visible when interior installed.

Continue to polish interior. Go over each panel a few times to get to a desired finish.

Finish polishing interior panels. Clean and hoover out. Fit gear lever cover and gaiter. Fit tunnel cover and mats to front.

Bonnet Straps And Badges

Technician Jonn has continued work on the Grantz sensor on our 2022 Bridge C-Type Replica. He also secured the bracket under the prop shaft.

He went on to remove and turn the bonnet release handles 180ยฐ before fitting and securing the leather bonnet straps.

The headlights were rewired as the fog light was not turning off. Once this was resolved, Jonn drilled and fitted the badges to the bonnet and rear panel.

C-Types Lights And Indicators

Jonn has been working on our 2022 Bridge C-Type Replica. He raised it up on the ramp and removed the centre under trays. He then worked out where and how to fit the prop shaft speed sensor pick up and sensor.

After measuring the length of wire required to connect the indicators, a small twin-core loom was made and taped up. After feeding the wire through the hole under the indicator, it was connected, tested, and repeated on the other side.

The rear headlight covers were also fitted before the bonnet alignment was finished.

Fit Up – Wiring Up and Checking the Fitment of the Bonnet on our C-Type Replica

The workshop and paint team have been working on getting the bonnet of our C-Type replica fitted up onto the car and adjusted along with the wiring beginning to take shape underneath this homage to the glory years of Le Mans.

Along with the wiring, the paint team have also gone through and marked small blemishes in the paintwork only found once under new lighting which will be address once the bonnet is removed for final fitment.

Along with the work under the bonnet, the team have been working on getting underneath the dash wired up with the new timing equipment and odometer in place for the project to move forward along with starting to reinstall the switchgear,

John then went on to make the brackets for the Brantz before fitting and writing up the fog light in the grille.

C-Type Bonnet

John has been fitting the temperature sender to our 2022 Bridge C-Type Replica. He also routed the wiring and secured it under the manifold.

He then started to fit up the bonnet before fitting the headlight mounts and headlights to both sides.

The grille was fitted to the air intake which was then installed.

John then polished the front panels and radiator top as these are visible through the grille.

Fitting Dash

Over the weekend, John finished wiring in the dash of our 2022 Bridge C-Type Replica.

He also fitted the Brantz system and trial-fitted the switches and gauges to help find the best location for each one.

Jaguar C-Type Replica rebuild progress

Every day is that one step closer to revealing the finished project. Our 2023 Jaguar C-Type replica is coming on leaps and bounds now with the refit well and truly underway. John has been busy fitting the lights back up and the wiring back in.

The next biggest piece in the colour changing process was the bonnet and Alan has been making this a reality this week. We now have colour.

Meanwhile we have removed the spacer blocks from the boot lid pins. We have now fitted in place and masked in position.

We have heated up with hot air gun to reshape and periodically repeated the process over a few hours.

The front suspension braces are now spaced.

We have wire brushed and painted the rusty engine mount bolts and finished in black. The rusty calipers bolts have been wire brushed and paint in silver.

The fuel filler cap has been removed and the neck clamp has been slackened. Two of the screws have been removed and repositioned to the left in rotation before re-securing. Fit filler cap, grease seal and Loctite threads and knock up tight.

C – Type Refit

Jonn has been refitting our 2022 Bridge C-Type Replica. He tried to fit the front suspension brace but the brackets were too small.

He polished and fitted the fuel cap before polishing the mirror bracket too. The windscreen was fitted and the ends were sanded down the ends to fit and polished both ends back to smooth.

Jonn then fitted the screen and drilled out the fixings.

Jonn used bigger brackets and fitted these to the front suspension and secured them. He then fitted the brace bar but this still requires spacers. The remaining windscreen screws were fitted and tightened.

C-Type Door Card

Lydia has recently been making a pretend ‘door card ‘ to balance out the interior of our 2022 Bridge C-Type Replica. There is only one door, with a very small area that Lydia has made a covering for, so she had to work out something that would look good on the other side too. She first made a template from paper and checked this for size. She then used this to make the card shape and cut it out from leather. Then she marked the diamond pattern to mirror the other side and sewed this. The door card was finished with a piping edge to give it a nice finish.

C – Type Refit

Classic car technician Jonn has been refitting our 2022 Bridge C-Type Replica.

He polished the exhaust heatshield and riveted it to the body. He then polished the exhaust silencer and tailpipes and mounted them to the car. Finally, he positioned and tightened the clamps.

Wheel Arches And Tonneau Cover

Our 2022 Bridge C Type Replica has been in the Bridge Classic Cars paint shop with Alan, who has been applying raptor to the rear wheel arches.

Lydia has also been working on our stunning replica. After fitting the steering wheel into the c type, she was able to make the final adjustments on the tonneau cover. She cut a slit and made a cover to fit the wheel, and still allow the cover to be fitted in case of rain etc.

Lydia then made a bag to fit the cover in and keep it nice and compact.

Aluminium Looking

Alan has prepped the inside of the bonnet of our 2022 Bridge C Type Replica ready for paint.

He masked up the bonnet with new masking tape and sheeting and painted the inside in fine aluminium.

Priming The Bonnet

Paint technician Alan has been masking up and priming the inside of the bonnet of our 2022 Bridge C-Type Replica.

Polish And Paint

Chris and Alan in the Bridge Classic Cars paint shop have been continuing their work on our 2022 Bridge C-Type replica.

Alan flatted and polished the body of the car, while Chris finished off some component painting.

Prepping And Painting

Our 2022 Bridge C Type Replica has been spending some time in the Bridge Classic Cars paintshop as Alan has been prepping the car before painting it in its new green colour.

As well as the main body of the car, Alan also painted the doors, boot lid, and other small parts.
