A busy week of deliveries

Tony’s had a busy week on the road this week. As I sit here writing this he is currently heading up the A65 on his way to the north of Scotland for the weekend to collect 5 (potentially 6) classic motorcycles.

But earlier in the week he delivered the incredible 1992 Rover Mini Italian Job to one very happy Brian. Brian has been waiting patiently for the winning car as we discovered a slight vibration during the Pre Delivery Inspection and we did not want him to have the car until we had resolved the issue.

James accepted delivery of his 1982 Bedford HA van. Although James resides some distance from us here in Suffolk he has a vehicle storage facility close to our door so the journey we were expecting to have ended up a few hundred miles shorter. James is an avid collector of classic cars and we are lead to believe this win is the 16th classic he has in his collection. Enjoy the car James.

But the Alfa Romeo, recently won by double winner Lee is staying with us in our Hangar for a little while as Lee prepares his home for the new arrival. Lee would rather not see his Alfa sitting on the driveway whilst his building works continues so has instantly opted to have the vehicle dry stored with us and we expect to rearrange the delivery for early May.

PDI And Road Test

Our 1992 Rover Italian Job Mini has been with technician Jonn recently. his notes:

Carry out road test. Car has a vibration through whole car and steering out to right. Remove engine steady bar and found bushes badly splt.

Take outside and warm up. Carry out road test. Return to workshop with issues to sort out. Remove steering wheel and align with straight ahead position. Car has bad vibration and knock. Trace knock to engine steady link.

Adjust valve clearances all were tight. Refit rocker cover and run up. Vibration still present. Raise in the air and run up. Visually inspect for components in contact with body but nothing found. All subframe and engine mounts appear fine. Remove catalyst as internals loose. Smash out monolith from inside just incase it was blocked. Refit and run and test. Still the same. Disconnect alternator belt and run up. Vibration still present.

The car has now been transported for repair.

PDI Complete

Jonn has carried out the pdi on our 1992 Rover Italian Job Mini. Now this is done, the car is almost ready to be delivered to its lucky new owner who won it through Bridge Classic Cars Competitions.

Inspection And Repairs

Our 1992 Rover Mini Italian Job has been with technician Jonn. He has stripped the rear brakes, fitted new rear shoes and nearside rear wheel cylinder. He then cleaned the hub centres and wheels before securing both door mirrors and steering column cowling.

He fitted the offside rear wheel cylinder before bleeding the rear brakes. After adjusting the handbrake, Jonn checked it for operation and leaks before refitting the wheels and torquing them up.

A modern classic to blow your doors off! Our 1992 Rover Italian Job Mini is now live

The Bridge Classic Cars Competitions team have got something to ‘blow your doors off’!

In the early 1990’s to celebrate the cult classic 1969 film, The Italian Job, the Longbridge company began a small, limited edition run of cars to pay homage to the Peter Collinson film.

Featuring unique and special graphics packs, adorning this bite size classic with its namesake, the Italian Job Minis would be available in the classic Red, White and Blue paint schemes of the hero cars in the film as well as celebrating their homeland with a timeless British Racing Green option.

Our 1992 Rover Italian Job, based on the Red Mk1 Mini driven by stunt driver David Salamone with Michael Caine as his passenger, is finished in stunning Flame Red with more modern Black bonnet stripes and a classic set of double rally lights on the front.

Powered by the quintessential 1275cc 4-cylinder engine paired with a manual gearbox, this classic Mini really does… ‘’get its skates on’’ to quote the film.

Included with the car is a history file which contains the original grey vinyl booklet pack alongside numerous invoices dating from June 2023 all the way back to the 19th of May 2000.

Also included is a valuation certificate from the British Mini club from 2015 confirming the car as one of the 1750 Italian Job Mini’s built with the inspector noting the car was ‘A nice example of a Mini Italian Job LE’.

So, whether you’re looking at doing a ‘big job’ with some gold bullion or a tranquil Sunday drive our 1992 Rover Italian Job Mini ticks all those boxes.

New Arrival – 1992 Rover ‘Italian Job’ Mini

Recently we welcomed back an old friend to our Pettistree workshops, our old 1992 Rover ‘Italian Job’ Mini.

This car, played a part in the very early history of Bridge Classic Cars before going off to live its own life out there within the UK Mini community. Now, it has found its way back to us!

Soon, it will be headed into our workshops for the team to assess.
