1960 Jensen 541R Bonnet Repair

Our Jensen bonnet has been in the paint shop. The fibreglass structure has a large crack and so will be repaired to a completely smooth surface ready for repainting.

Jensen (#493) 541R in primer

We are now aligning the doors, boot lid and bonnet and completing the primer stage of our 1960 Jensen 541R. We will soon be able to enter the paint room for Chris to carry out the full re-spray.

1960 Jensen 541R – Awaiting Restoration

Awaiting restoration, we have our 1960 Jensen 541R with matching number engine. The Jensen Owner’s Club have confirmed the identity of the vehicle so she will be stored away until such time as a full restoration can begin.

Jensen Owners Club Visit

David Turnage from the Jensen Owner’s Club has visited today to inspect our three Jensen’s. In order to register the cars, a representative from the club is required to verify the paperwork and confirm the authenticity of the vehicles. And, as always, he arrives in style…

Fitting up the front and rear hubs on our Jensen 541R

John has now built up the front and rear hubs. The brakes have been upgraded all round with the front set up being converted to 4-pot calipers. We have also altered the set up to hold spoke wheels and have temporarily fitted a set for testing.

Chroming various parts

Fabricating a new set of caliper carriers

Having just one set of carrier calipers we set to work fabricating a new set so that both vehicles had a set.

Jensen brightwork ready for refit.

We have now stripped back, cleaned and plated the seat runners and bonnet stays. We have also received delivery of our brand new rear brakes, hubs and caps ready for refit too.

Fabricating spacers for our Jensens

We have successfully fabricated the spacers for the front member and suspension for both our Jensen 541R’s.

Marrying our Jensen 541R bodyshell to the chassis

The final fit of our 1960 Jensen 541R body shell to the chassis. The body has been fixed back on to the metal framework and the complete unit has now been bonded back on to the chassis ready for paint preparation to begin.

Preparing our Jensen bonnet

Work is well on with the preparation of the bonnet and front wings of our 1960 Jensen 541R (#493).

Our Jensen 541R body stone chipped

Our 1960 Jensen 541R (#493) is now in the paint shop having the underside stone chipped. Once this task is complete the bodyshell will be married up to the newly built chassis before being secured into position.

The body now in primer

Our 1960 Jensen 541R body is now in primer. The restored internal frames that were retained inside the body for strengthening can now be seen away from the primed shell and mounted onto the finished chassis.

Repairing the Jensen door

Tommy has carried out a few repairs to our 1960 Jensen 541R door (chassis #493). The outer skin has been removed to reveal the corroded area. With the outer skin removed we have cut out the areas affected by corrosion and have re-introduced new metal before sealing the area and refitting the outer skin.

Work is well underway with the fibreglass body preparation

The stripping and re-shaping of our 1960 Jensen 541R body is progressing well with the shell now primed and ready for the next stage.

We inspected the diffs for wear before media blasting and painting the rear axles.
