Working on the 1955 MG TF

Our workshop manager John has been working on getting the 1955 MG TF back on the road with a few jobs.

He replaced the old starter motor with a new high-torque unit to make sure the car had enough force to turn over strong and fire up. Alongside that, he also replaced the fuel pump on the classic sports car.

Carburettor Strip and Set Up on the 1955 MG TF

Steve has been working on the 1955 MG TF in the workshop of our Suffolk HQ.

To begin with, Steve stripped down the carburettors on the 1500cc 4-cylinder as the front unit was leaking and had a sticking piston. With a new set of seals and gaskets, Steve worked his magic to get both units rebuilt and back on the car to begin setting them up to get this 1950s sports car running better than ever.

Once back on the car and going through visual checks, Steve discovered that the top of the piston in the front unit was not sitting central and causing it to stick and because of this will require replacement.

MG TF Transport

Tony has collected our 1955 MG TF from its owner and safely transported it to the workshop.

Another Job Done

The thermostat on our 1955 MG TF 1500 has been fitted, the carburettors adjusted and a new front bumper has been replaced on the car. It has been road tested and final adjustments completed along with a clean ready for collection.

Carburettors, Manifold And Brakes

The manifold has been fitted to our 1955 MG TF 1500, along with the carbs and fuel lines. James also checked the brakes. They were stripped, cleaned and checked – the friction material is good, the rear hub seals are dry and no leaks were found from any of the wheel cylinders.

An underside checkover was then carried out and all was well. The only points to note are the front bumper has some damage and is misaligned and the workshop team are now waiting for a thermostat so the coolant can be added and the car run up and tested.

MG TF1500 Engine

The engine of our 1955 MG TF 1500 has been returned from refurbishing. Once it was back in the workshop, technician James started by refitting and cleaning the gearbox, then putting the assembly back just to the car. Once this was refitted, he moved on to its mounts, all ancillary components such as the starter, dynamo and radiator were emitted, along with any electrical wiring and the grill/bonnet flaps.

The interior console and trims were re-installed along with the carpets after checking the gearbox oil level. The workshop team are now awaiting the exhaust manifold to come back so this can be refitted with the balanced carburettors and fuel system, then road test!

Welcome Back

We have recently welcomed our stunning 1955 MG TF 1500 back into the Bridge Classic Cars workshop.

Tony collected the car from its owner and delivered it safely to the workshop. Now that it is here, it will be looked after by our experienced team of technicians.

Starting An MG TF

Our 1955 MG TF 1500 has been under the care of workshop manager John as he has been investigating the issues the car has been having during start-up.

As the starter motor was found to not be engaging, the old starter was removed ready to be replaced. John will now move on to resolving the other issues that have been reported by the owner.

Entering The Workshop

Another new addition to the Bridge Classic Cars workshop is our 1955 MG TF 1500.

There can be no denying that this is a beautiful classic car and one that highlights just how iconic the MG marque really is. While it is with us, our team of technicians will be investigating and resolving a few issues the car is suffering from.

These include investigating why it won’t start, carrying out a major service, and reporting any findings back to the owner to work out a plan of action for its future.
