Getting Ready For Summer

Now that warmer (and hopefully drier) weather is coming, it is the time of year when the thought of getting your classic car back out on the road starts popping up.

We have been storing the award-winning 1960 Jensen 541S over winter, but the time has come for it to come out of The Hangar, and be prepared for its owner to collect it and enjoy it over the summer months.

Before it’s ready to leave us though, we are waiting on a new fuel gauge to arrive which will replace the current faulty one. Once this arrives and is installed, the car will be summer-ready and will soon leave us to be admired in the sun!

GSX 400T Progress

We have recently received an update on the progress of our 1984 Suzuki GSX 400T.

The frame and smaller parts of the bike are being prepped to be powder coated in satin black. The rear loop has been shortened and it now sits under the seat. The rear guard will likely not be used so a hugger may be sourced and modified instead.

Another modification has been made to the swing arm to catch the calliper torque motion on a peg rather than an arm. This will clean up the back end before more brackets are removed to continue the restoration process.

Win 1 Of Just 700 Porsche Cayman

Our 2009 Porsche Cayman S Sport is now live on the Bridge Classic Cars Competitions website.

Only 700 S Sports were made and this is car number 56 of 700. It is finished in stunning Carrera White with the black graphics pack and matching 19-inch SportDesign wheels making it look cool, stylish, and very sporty.

With only 36,000 miles on the clock, there is a whole lot more left in the tank of this mid-engined sports car. Whether you’re heading out on a road trip or using it as a daily driver, you will certainly enjoy the experience of being behind the wheel.

Entry is now open so make sure you get your tickets fast to be in with a chance of winning our 2009 Porsche Cayman S Sport, as we don’t expect this one to be available for long.

An FF Returns

We have recently welcomed our 1971 Jensen FF MKII back into the Bridge Classic Cars workshop.

After leaving us back in January, it has returned to us so we can investigate and resolve a few issues that the owner has been experiencing since getting the car back. These minor issues include the fuel flap not working, and one of the doors not closing properly.

Our team of classic car technicians will look to make any repairs needed to get our FF back out onto the road in the very near future.

Our Sunbeam Is Back

Our 1980 Talbot Sunbeam Lotus has recently returned to the Bridge Classic Cars workshop.

After spending some time earlier this year with our team of technicians, it has come back to us so we can investigate why it isn’t starting as it should and to find the reason behind a coolant leak.

Now that it is back in the workshop, work will begin to resolve these issues and get the car back to its owner very soon.

Paint And Polish

Our 1976 Aston AMV8 has spent a bit more time in the Bridge Classic Cars paint shop. That being said, its time in paint is coming to an end as it has now been fully painted in deep carriage green.

Once it came out of the paint booth, classic car technician Al moved on to the flatting and polishing process to make sure that when our AMV8 leaves the paint shop, it is looking as good as possible.

The transformation of this classic car has already been impressive and, with more work to do, it will continue to get better and better as it moves through the workshop.

A Photoshoot For A Rare Classic

Our 1937 Vauxhall 25 Wingham Cabriolet is an exceptionally rare car. It is believed that there are only five surviving examples left worldwide, so each one is a very special vehicle.

We happen to own one of the remaining examples and it is currently in the Bridge Classic Cars workshop.

After having interior work completed at Moore’s Classic Car Interiors, our team of skilled technicians have painted the underside, fitted a new exhaust system, made and fitted a boot floor carpet and corner covers for the bonnet, replaced a radiator hose, and cleaned the braking system.

During its time with Moore’s, it underwent work on the front and rear seats, door upholstery, headlining, and soft top.

Now that our rare Wingham is looking as good as it does, we thought it was only right to organise a photoshoot to show off a classic car that you likely won’t get the chance to see in person yourself, considering there are so few remaining anywhere in the world.

Nick took our Wingham out of the workshop and down to a more open area of our facility and, as you can see from the photos below, the results certainly go some way in showing just how beautiful and special this car really is.

Ipswich To Felixstowe Rally

On Sunday, Molly and Lily visited the Ipswich to Felixstowe rally.

Starting at Christchurch Park in Ipswich before travelling to Felixstowe Seafront, the rally was organised by the Ipswich Transport Museum and has been an annual event for many years (with the exception of a COVID-led hiatus), and it was extremely well attended.

While at the event, Molly and Lily spoke to a number of attendees about their vehicles and they had a fantastic time. The vehicle owners they spoke to included:

  • Glen and Barbara Hurlock. They had a Ford Zodiac that they were very pleased made it to the rally in one piece as it broke down and didn’t quite make it on their last attempt!
  • Nigel Hodder. Nigel is a former customer of Bridge Classic Cars as we worked on the interior of his TR6.
  • Peter Meredith also showed off his 1971 MGB GT which he has had the pleasure of owning for the last decade.

A particular highlight of the day for Molly and Lily was the tour of a 1939 Bristol Low Bridge Bus that was partly built at Eastern Coachworks in Lowestoft. One of the bus’s owners, Martin, was kind enough to give them a tour and told the story of how a group of bus drivers had bought and restored the bus so that future generations get to enjoy and admire it too.

The bus used to have a retractable roof but this has since been replaced with a solid roof.

Bridge Classic Cars Director, Gordon also attended the rally and he too had a great day spending time with other classic car enthusiasts and admiring the wide range of classic vehicles that made the drive from Ipswich to Felixstowe.

A Roof Of Paper

Our 1929 Riley 9 Tourer has been the focus of classic car technician Brian as of late. He has been making the paper templates which he will then use to make the roof cover of this classic hill climber.

Brian has spent quite a bit of time working on our Riley Tourer lately and a lot of progress has been made. Once the roof cover is made, it shouldn’t be too much longer until it leaves the workshop and is returned to its owner.

XK120 Progress Continues

The strip down of our 1954 Jaguar XK120 has continued as classic car technician John has been removing and cleaning components of the car that will be reused during the restoration.

This included the instrument cluster strip with the gauges being prepared for cleaning. The torsion bars have been dot punched to mark the spline position, and these were then stripped and cleaned ready for the rebuild too.

Priming Our MGB

Our 1980 MGB GT has continued its stay in the Bridge Classic Cars paint shop.

Classic car technician Mauro has been priming the newly stripped-back areas of the body ready to be painted very soon.

Once the paint repairs are complete, our 1980 MGB will be available to win through Bridge Classic Cars Competitions.

Simply Swing

Nigel Woodhouse of Simply Swing came in to see Lily today to chat about upcoming events. He arrived in style in his ’49 Chrysler, chrome polished to perfection.

Lily and Nigel have begun planning events for over the summer where vintage music and swing dancing can be incorporated. Having something for everyone at our big events will make them even more enjoyable and really add to the vintage vibe.

Dodge DA Repairs

Now that our 1929 Dodge DA has been registered with the DVLA and is ready to be used on UK roads, classic car technician Brian has been completing some repairs on the interior of this impressive classic car.

The first area of Brian’s focus was the damaged front seat cover. Once this was repaired, Brian fitted fasteners to the rear side section of the hood and frame.

Our 1929 Dodge DA is currently up for sale so, if you are interested in this Dodge Brothers classic, please get in touch.

Hill Climber Interior

Classic car technician Brian has been making and putting together the interior of our 1929 Riley 9 Tourer.

After drilling and fitting screws to the driver’s side panel, Brian made and fitted the supports to fit between the wood beams of the car. The back of the passenger side panels were painted and the driver’s side panel was cut into two sections to make removing it easier.

Brian went on to mark and cut out foam for the panels and glued it to the front faces. The edges were trimmed and the leather for the panels was also cut out. Once the leather was glued onto the panels, Brian removed the floor panels to trim and paint the edges.

The panels were fitted into the car and adjustments were made as necessary to ensure they fit perfectly. Once the rear squab seat had been trial fitted, Brian moved on to removing the front floor panel so the handbrake could be put back in. This was fitted before the floor panel was re-installed and the seat brackets were put back into the car too.

Restoring A Transit

A Ford Transit MKII Tipper recently arrived at the Bridge Classic Cars workshop. It has come to us from Jacobs Construction and it will be undergoing a total restoration to bring the vehicle back to as new condition and specifications.

As you can see from the photos below, there is a long way to go before our Transit is back up and running, but, now that work has begun, we are looking forward to seeing it progress through its restoration journey.

Our Mustang Leaves Suffolk

We recently took our 2016 Ford Mustang GT from our secure storage facility at Bentwaters Parks and delivered it to the lucky winner, John Waddicar.

Everyone here loved the Mustang and we are very happy to hear that John is loving it just as much.

Tomcat Leaves Us

Our 1996 Rover 220 Turbo recently left the Bridge Classic Cars workshop and was transported to lucky winner, Craig Cookson.

It was picked up from our secure storage facility and delivered to Craig who was very happy with his new car.

It’s always a great feeling to see competition cars leave us and make their way to their new owners and this one was no exception.

Collecting Our Porsche Cayman

Our Porsche Cayman S Sport recently arrived at the Bridge Classic Cars workshop.

It is currently sitting in The Atelier patiently waiting to be looked over before becoming a competition car through Bridge Classic Cars Competitions.

More photos of it with the car will be available soon but, in the meantime, as you can see from its previous owner’s social media posts, it even looks great in the trailer making its way to us.

Win Our Morgan

Entry for our 1969 Morgan 4/4 1600 is now open!

With only 2 former keepers and undergoing a complete overhaul in 1988, our Morgan 4/4 has recently had its wire wheels refinished in silver from their previous red colour.

Someone will win our 1969 Morgan 4/4 1600 at 9:00 am on 16th May 2023, so make sure you get your tickets from the Bridge Classic Cars Competitions website to be in with a chance of becoming the new owner of this stunning classic car.

Spitfiring On All Cylinders

Our soon-to-arrive 1976 Triumph Spitfire 1500 will be undergoing a full restoration in the Bridge Classic Cars workshop. This will actually be the 4th concourse restoration for one of our regular customers and we are very much looking forward to getting the work underway.

In preparation for this, we have sourced an English British Leyland engine that will eventually go into the car. As the car is left-hand drive and part of the American production run, it features the lower-performing American version of the engine which was limited somewhat due to emissions restrictions.

Before the engine goes into the car though, it will be recommissioned to match the future condition of our Spitfire.

Preparing For Paint

Classic car technician Mauro has been getting our 1980 MGB GT prepped for paint. He has been stripping the car down taking the areas to be improved back to bare metal.

Once it leaves the paint shop, it will continue to progress through the Bridge Classic Cars workshop until it is ready to move into the next chapter of its life on the road.

Daimler Repairs

Our 1964 Daimler 250 V8 recently spent some time with classic car technician Chris. While with him, the spats on both the front and rear ends were repaired.

As progress continues on our Daimler V8, we are looking forward to getting it back out on the road very soon.

Elise Investigations

Our 1998 Lotus Elise S1 has been in the skilled hands of classic car technician John to investigate a couple of issues that the car has been having.

The first issue to be resolved was the bonnet hinge bolts. John secured these in place before investigating why the gears were proving hard to engage during driving. He found that this was due to bushes in the cable ends being completely gone. New bushes have been ordered and will be installed once they arrive at the workshop.

Safety First – Seat Belt Mounts

Classic car technician Chris has been continuing his work on our 1975 Jensen Interceptor MK3.

To make sure the car is safe to drive once it has been fully restored, Chris has welded in the seat belt mounts.

In addition to the seat belt mounts, Chris also welded the outer panels onto the driver’s side before also welding the passenger side sill cover and tread plate in place.

Working On Our Fiat Coupe

Our 1997 Fiat 20V Turbo spent a bit of time with our fabrication team, Chris and Monty. During its time with them, it had its front sill end cut out and replaced as well as having its front wing repaired too.

The rear right quarter panel and arch were cut out and replaced, and a new towing eye bracket was made and welded to the car. New bumper mount posts were also welded in place.

After leaving the fabrication bay, our Fiat Coupe moved into the Bridge Classic Cars paintshop where Mauro prepped the car before priming and painting the newly repaired areas.

The car then returned to Chris and Monty to be put back together and to also have its new number plate lights wired in.

As well as having parts of its body repaired and painted, our Fiat Coupe also spent some time with classic car technician Brian who has been working on the interior of the vehicle, specifically, the damaged headliner. After removing the headliner from the car, he repaired it before reinstalling it into the car.

Stripping An XK120

Classic car technician John has been working on our 1954 Jaguar XK120.

After being a paused restoration project for its previous owner, it has spent some time at our secure storage facility waiting for a spot in the Bridge Classic Cars workshop. Now that the time has come for its restoration to continue with our team of skilled technicians, work can finally begin on bringing our XK120 back to life.

John has been stripping the car ready for restoration work to begin and we are very excited to see this project progress and to get this classic car back on the road.

TR6 Improvements

After returning to the Bridge Classic Cars workshop, our 1973 Triumph TR6 has been in the experienced hands of classic car technician Steve.

Steve fitted new bushes on the rear training arms as well as removing the damaged anti-roll bar mounts.

The split pins were broken and needed to be drilled out before Steve went on to remove and replace the split top ball joint boots. Rust was cleaned from the suspension bush holes before everything was put back together.

Steve also checked the fuel pressure and fuel distribution unit timing.

Getting Our MGB Running

Classic car technician Scott has been working on our 1971 MGB Convertible recently.

After being off the road for a considerable length of time, there are several issues that need to be resolved before this classic MG can get back on the road again.

Scott began by sorting an issue with the fuel pump. He replaced the lines, drained the old fuel and replaced it with new. He was then able to get the car running.

A leak on the carbs was fixed and the brakes were stripped and checked. Scott cleaned and regreased the rear brakes before running our MGB up to temperature and test-driving it around the grounds surrounding the Bridge Classic Cars workshop.

The water pumper will need to be replaced so Scott removed this and prepared the car for the arrival of the new pump.

Finally, Scott gave the underside of the vehicle a clean and applied rust protection to any bare areas.
