Classic experts from across the globe share market intelligence on the models gaining in value โ and highlight the ones that are struggling. Market experts from both sides of the Atlantic say prices for 1980s and 1990s modern classics will continue to rise โ and theyโre predicting that cars from the early 2000s will become hot investment tips.
The Porsche 968, Honda S2000 and Mitsubishi Evo are among those tipped by members of a panel assembled by Hagerty International to assess the current state of the market. They also identified that British classics from the 1950s, particularly Ford saloons and Rootes Group models, are struggling to set the market alight.
The price experts also highlighted โ using sales data from the US and Europe โ that investment in the classic market is currently offering a quicker return than either gold or the FTSE100, but while they think a price crash similar to the late 1980s is unlikely they did warn that speculators still had the potential to destablise a buoyant market. The panel also said it expected performance cars from the 2000s to be the next ones to find favour with classic car collectors.ย
Hagerty International managing director Angus Forsyth said: โThe future cars of interest will be those which would beย a screen saver for tomorrowโs collectors โ we call it the Top Gear effect, because we know a wide audience including teenagers enjoy seeing the cars that the show features. Itโs these cars that are predicted to be the next collectibles of the classic car market.โย

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]History of the Jensen 541S
The Jensen 541S was Jensen Motors luxury GT model of the Jensen 541 series, being 4″ wider than the 541R, which had the advantages of making the interior roomier and improving the road holding. The 541S had a conventional radiator grill (as opposed to the flap of the 541) to allow for the extra heat given by a proposed new V8 engine, and a Salisbury limited slip differential for the extra torque demanded.
Jensen used their own powerful version of the Austin DS5 4-litre straight-six engine (featuring triple SU carburetor, a high compression Weslake head with custom-made twin exhaust manifolds and an alloy baffled sump/oil cooler) in the 541S. Initially the Jensen brothers tested Chrysler Hemi V8s in the 541S, also trialed in Richard Jensen’s Jensen 541 deluxe, but none were used because of supply difficulties. One was fitted with a Chevrolet 327 V8 however, at Donald Healey‘s request. A total of 127 cars were hand-built between 1960 and 1962 at Jensen’s West Bromwich factory, mostย having GM-licensed Rolls-Royce hydramatic gearboxes. This was innovative at the time as performance cars mainly had manual gearboxes. It also suited the criteria of effortless speed and luxurious long distance driving Jensen set for their new car, although twenty-two were fitted with Moss manual gear boxes at the request of their prospective owners.
The Jensen 541S is also notable for being the first British car to have seat belts fitted as standard equipment. Another first for the 541 series was the use of Dunlop disc brakes on all four wheels. A rack and pinion steering system was employed, giving the car very positive steering. Other safety equipment included a padded windscreen surround, fire extinguisher and first-aid kit. Each car was also fitted with a Motorola radio.
The 541S was superseded by the Chrysler Golden Commando V8 powered Jensen CV8 model, which inherited from the 541S the same wheelbase and track dimensions, as well as the Jensen ethos of safe, easy, comfortable and fast inter-continental travel while the groundbreaking 1966 Jensen FF used a perimeter tube style chassis first tried on the 541 series of cars.

Pukka Pies is an independent company with a passion for pies. They are made with the finest ingredients by dedicated and caring people. They are full filled in light pastry; they taste great and have true flavours. The proof is in the eating. Try one… Theyโre Delicious!
In 1963 the Beatles were at number one, Mary Quant decided short dresses were cool and the rest of the population were discovering bell bottoms!
Thankfully, Trevor Storer had other ideas on good taste. Quitting his day job he founded Trevor Storer’s Handmade Pie Company which started the smallest of bakeries and set about selling great tasting pies. His first creation was the Steak and Kidney Pie and it was Trevor’s wife Valerie who produced the recipe for the Chicken and Mushroom Pie which like all the pies, remains the exact recipe today. He baked the pies on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and sold them on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Trevor opened 13 accounts on the first day and sold 1,200 pies in the first week. By the end of the first year he employed just 12 members of staff. Pukka Pies now make over 69 million pies and pasties per year and have 320 members of staff.
In a flash of marketing genius, one year later he renamed the company Pukka Pies and the rest as they say, is history. Trevor Storer’s pies tasted great and were an instant hit. Bell bottoms may no longer be with us but Trevor Storers pies most certainly are. Pukka Pies… Don’t Compromise!.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

“Chris has been a long-standing client of Bonhams, so we’re delighted to offer his incredible motor cars at Bonhams Goodwood Revival Sale.
“In refreshing his collection, others will have the opportunity to enjoy Chris’ fantastic cars after all, you never ‘own’ a classic car, you enjoy it, look after it, and pass it on for others to appreciate.”
More than 140 lots of Evans’ Automobilia will also be offered, the proceeds of which will be donated to BBC charity, Children in Need.
Other motor cars offered from Chris Evans include a 1949 Jaguar XK120 ‘Alloy’ Roadster estimate between ยฃ500K-ยฃ600K and a 1967 Jaguar XKSS ‘Lynx’ estimated ยฃ325K-ยฃ375K.
* The sale takes place on September 12 at Goodwood in Chichester, West Sussex

Held in association with the Suffolk Vehicle Enthusiasts Club (SVEC).
Over 5,000 people attended the 2014 festival. The event attracts classic and sports car owners who exhibit their cars some of which parade up and down the main drive on the two concourse runs throughout the day.
Over 700 vehicles attend, representing the last 10 decades of motoring history, including many from Britainโs motoring heyday โ marques on display included Alvis, Bristol, Jensen, AC Riley, Armstong Sideley, Lea Francis, Crossley, BSA, Lagonda, Lanchester and Gordon Keeble. The oldest vehicle seen on display was a 1914 Ford Model T and the latest sports car models have included the Chevrolet Corvette and a Ford Mustang as well as Ferrarisโ and Porsche.

“We are very pleased that we found Bridge Classic Cars. We have wanted an Austin Nippy for some time and Asa was more than happy to carry out little things that we found could be improved on. Nothing was too much trouble.”
The Merak’s V6 engine descended from the 2.7 L Tipo C.114, originally designed by Giulio Alfieri in 1967 for use in the Citroรซn SM, that was bored out to 91.6 mm (piston stroke remained 75 mm) to displace 3 litres (2,965 cc).
It was a chain-driven double overhead camshaft, 12-valve unit featuring an unusual 90ยฐ angle between the cylinder banks.
The lubrication system used a wet sump and an oil cooler. This V6 did not end its days on the Merak: it was later modified and made into the first ever production twin-turbocharged engine in the Biturbo, ending its career in the 1990s Ghibli after reaching the highest specific output of any production engine at the time. The powerplant was mounted longitudinally behind the passenger compartment, and joined through a single-plate dry clutch to a 5-speed, all syncromesh Citroรซn transaxle gearbox and a limited-slip differential.
Here at Bridge Classic Cars we are looking for new talent.
If you have a love for classic vehicles then we want to hear from you. We are searching for a new restorer to join the team and help us grow!
If you have experience in restoring classic vehicles, welding, motor mechanics, engine rebuilding, auto electrics and can work on your own initiative then why not get in touch. Experience in all of the fields above is a bonus but it’s not essential.

The government has recently issued a 46-page report outlining the registrations that have been withdrawn from issue for risk of causing offence.
It’s a thankless task, over which the licensing authorities have often been ridiculed. But UK number plates have never been intended to represent names or words; it’s just a happy – and valuable – coincidence arising from a random process.
Almost since inception the guardians of the system have had to be on their guard. But times, fashions and language change. Very early on, the sequence ‘BF’ was blocked because of the now innocuous and laughable interpretation ‘bloody fool’.
Inevitably, some howlers have slipped through and it is rare for them to be recalled after the event.BO11ย LUX was released in 2011, then withdrawn, but the owner took on the DVLA and it is now back on the road.
Perhaps the most infamous example is that of the registration PENย 15. The representation cannot be considered offensive on any grounds yet, since it has been in the possession of Regtransfers, it has fallen foul of more than one newspaper publisher reluctant to feature its promotion.
PENย 15 is being offered for sale at online auction until 11.30am Monday 6 July.
Unless they’re your initials, the letters DUK probably won’t mean much to you. But, to fans of the pop group One Direction – and, quite possibly, the members of the ensemble themselves – the registration 1ย DUK says one thing: ‘1 D’ [One Direction] ‘UK’ [United Kingdom]. Consequently, a high price is anticipated when it goes up for auction in Stourbridge, West Midlands, on 6 July.
Of course, the plate dates back to 1963, when it was first issued by Wolverhampton County Borough Council and would be a desirable and distinctive combination in its own right.
Organisers of the sale are expecting the hammer to fall at between ยฃ25k and ยฃ30K. This respectable price is nothing compared to what was paid for the simple 1 D plate, which fetched a staggering ยฃ352,000 in 2009, the year before One Direction were formed.

TV and radio personality Chris Evans will replace Jeremy Clarkson as the lead presenter of an all-new Top Gear line-up, the BBC has announced.
Evans said he was “thrilled” to get the job, describing the motoring show as his “favourite programme of all time”.
“I promise I will do everything I possibly can to respect what has gone on before and take the show forward,” he added.
Clarkson was dropped in March after punching a producer while on location.
Car enthusiast Evans, who has signed a three-year deal with the BBC Two show, had been tipped to replace his good friend Clarkson but had previously insisted he was not interested.
An “all-new” line-up means Clarkson’s co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May will not be involved.
The BBC’s David Sillito said that while Chris Evans was a household name, Clarkson had a long-running association with Top Gear and his were big shoes to fill.
When Jeremy Clarkson relaunched Top Gear in 2002 it ceased to be a programme about cars; it became a programme about slightly tragic men who loved cars.
The essence was banter, lists and brilliant film-making. The problem is what happens when you lose the blokes.
Chris Evans is one of Britain’s most successful broadcasters. He loves cars, he understands how to make television and he’s a friend of Jeremy Clarkson. But he ain’t Jeremy Clarkson.
Around the World Top Gear has appeared in different forms. The ones that work best have Jeremy Clarkson – even if he has to be dubbed into Farsi.
“Everything about Top Gear was Clarkson, May and Hammond, primarily Clarkson,” he said.
“We have no idea who Evans will be filming the new series with. It could be one presenter, two, a whole team, or it could be a different set of presenters every week.”
Top Gear is watched by some 350 million viewers worldwide and is one of the BBC’s biggest shows, with overseas sales worth an estimated ยฃ50m a year.
Once the news broke, Evansย tweeted: “First tweet as new Top Gear host. I would like to say Jeremy, Richard & James are the greatest. And NO I’m not leaving the R2 Breakfast Show.”
And in a statement, he said: “I’m thrilled, Top Gear is my favourite programme of all time.
“Created by a host of brilliant minds who love cars and understand how to make the massively complicated come across as fun, devil-may-care and effortless.
“When in fact of course, it’s anything but and that’s the genius of Top Gear’s global success.”
Back in March, Evans had denied that he was taking over the show’s presenting duties,ย tweeting:ย “I can categorically say I am not and will NEVER be running for office. Pls discount my candidacy.”
Controller of BBC Two and BBC Four Kim Shillinglaw said she was “delighted” that Evans would be presenting the next series of Top Gear.
“His knowledge of and passion for cars are well known, and combined with his sheer inventiveness and cheeky unpredictability, he is the perfect choice to take our much-loved show into the future,” she said.
“Chris is a huge fan of Top Gear and has great respect for the craft and work ethic of one of the best production teams in the world.
“He knows the phenomenal attention to detail it takes to make a single sequence of Top Gear, let alone a whole series. He is already full of brilliant ideas and I can’t wait for him to get started.”
There’s a very telling line in Chris Evans’ statement: “I promise I will do everything I possibly can to respect what has gone on before and take the show forward.”
The 49-year-old is acutely aware of Top Gear’s reputation – and the reaction his appointment will provoke.
On paper, he’s a perfect replacement for his good friend Jeremy Clarkson. A car nut with a motor mouth and a track record in steering a television juggernaut to success.
But he’s also a divisive figure, with many viewers put off by the unruly, egotistical behaviour of his tabloid years.
Evans even admitted there was a “50/50 split” among Top Gear fans over whether his involvement was a good idea.
However, he added: “In TV or radio, if you get a 50/50 love/hate reaction that usually equals massive hit.”
Only time will tell.
Production on the new series of Top Gear will start in the next few weeks and the BBC said more information would be announced in due course.
Jeremy Clarkson was suspended, then dropped, by the BBC in March following a “fracas” with a producer at a hotel.
His final appearance on Top Gear will be shown on 28 June. The episode will be made up of two films shot before Clarkson was suspended, with Hammond and May presenting links from the studio.
Viewers will see Clarkson, Hammond and May behind the wheel of classic cars and beaten-up 4x4s in their final challenges as a trio.
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]For sale: ยฃ43 million private car collection.
It’s so extensive they’ve had to open up another day just to flog them all. Ladies and gentlemen, on 13 August 2015 at the RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction, a private collection of 30 cars will be offered up for sale.
What makes this newsworthy however, is that the cars are all part of a single collection – a single private collection, no less – and represent some of the finest machinery men with tools have ever built.
There are such automotive luminaries as the very first Bugatti Veyron, chassis number 001, the Lamborghini Reventon, a 1964 Ferrari 250 LM and a 1998 McLaren F1 LM.
Though RM Sotheby’s has yet to reveal the full list of 30 cars, the value of the whole lot – sold individually, of course, not as a collective – is said to comfortably exceed all previous private car collections sold at auction, which currently stands at over $65.9 million. That’s a cool ยฃ43 million, at the very minimum.
“While many of the world’s most impressive collections were established in the public eye of the car collecting world,” says RM’s Shelby Myers, “the โPinnacle Portfolio’ was assembled with a clandestine, surgical precision unlike any other that has come to market.”
As mentioned, RM has had to extend its Monterey auction, with this collection being sold off during an exclusive, standalone auction.

“I have now bought 2 classic cars off Craig and his team at Bridge Classic Cars. The serviceย I have received on bothย purchases as been second to none. The cars were fully prepared and everything they said they were going to do they did. I could not recommend them enough for classic car purchases andย for looking after the servicing and day to day maintenance on any classic vehicle.”
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Bridge Classic Cars can now reveal that the next restoration will be… a Maserati Merak.
This 3 litre version, believed to be an SS but still has to be confirmed was purchased after the owner realised that after four years the restoration was beyond his reach.
The car originally in Verde Indy Green with red leather was to have a colour change but here at Bridge Classic Cars we have decided to put her back to original, unless sold prior to paint when a new owner can change the specification.
Another reason for putting her back to original is this is the ACTUAL car featured on the album cover of Dexy Midnight Runnersย organist Andde Leek. A signed record sleeve accompanies the car.
The car is for sale and interested parties should contact us as soon as possible as our concours rebuild projects don’t remain for sale long as they are seen as serious financial investments when some classic cars are rising 30% per year.
Bridge Classic Cars have also secured a complete collection which comprises of a Austin Seven Nippy, Austin Seven Special, Austin Top Hat, Armstrong Siddeley Lancaster and a MGBBT.

It’s not everyday that the plumber turns up wearing top hat and tails in the company van – but then it’s not every day a plumber is summoned to Buckingham Palace by the Queen.
The occasion was last month whenย Charlie Mullins, founder of London-based Pimlico Plumbers, was awarded an OBE for services to plumbing, recognising at the same time his work to promote and raise social status of apprenticeships.
Mullins set up the business – now the capital’s largest independent plumbing and service supplier – in 1979 after completing and apprenticeship, determined to raise standards and the status of plumbing.
“I hope that I can be an inspiration to others, particularly young people who should see our industry as a great place to work and, by completing an apprenticeship, set themselves up for a long and prosperous career,” he said.
