Porsche 911 Carerra Targa seat piping replacement at Bridge Classic cars

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]It is always important to look sympathetically at any part of your restoration.

We could easily retrim the Porsche seat but the patina of the seat is lost.

Porsche 911 Carerra Targa worn bolster

Generally the piping of the seat bolster gets worn or rubbed through and in this instance because the original seats are in lovely condition we only changed the piping itself.

This is a lot of work in itself as the whole seat has to be de-constructed but as you see the result is worth it.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”2509,2507,2508″][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Kieron Dyer – I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!

He is somewhat notorious for his bad boy behaviour during his lengthy stint as a premier league footballer.

But Keiron Dyer has revealed is hoping to alter the public’s perceptions of him when he appears in this year’s series of ITV reality show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

Now happily married to partner Holly and a proud father of four, the 36-year-old sports star claims his controversial behaviour is very much a thing of the past.

Kieron Dyer I'm A Celebrity 02

Beginning his footballing career at the tender age of 18 at Ipswich Town, Kieron’s sporting ability eventually saw him snapped up by Newcastle United at 21 for £6 million, with the star admitting his accompanying fortune soon got the better of him.

‘I was earning fortunes having grown up in a poor background and you did end up in trouble. But you do mature, you learn from those errors. Now I’m in my thirties, I’m nothing like I was in my twenties, thank God,’ Kieron explained.

The Ipswich-born athlete has been embroiled in his fair share of controversy over the years having been involved in a sex tape and a speeding ban, as well as his infamous fight on the pitch against teammate Lee Bowyer at Newcastle.

But despite his tumultuous past, Kieron believes his settled lifestyle has made him a reformed man.

‘Fatherhood does change you, and just getting older and wiser. It’s a combination of everything – age, being a father, being a husband. I’ve been married a year now, things settle you down,’ he confessed to The Daily Mirror.

Kieron Dyer I'm A Celebrity 03

However, Kieron insists he isn’t entering the jungle in a bid to alter the public’s perceptions of him and is instead doing it ‘for my kids and for charity’.

‘When I told my kids I had the chance to do it, I think they want to see daddy embarrass himself on telly, going to do the trials.’

Kieran is donating a fee for the ITV show to the Jude Brady Foundation, which helps families coping with stillbirth and raises awareness of neonatal death.

Kieron Dyer I'm A Celebrity 04

Occupation: Former England football star

Age: 36

Phobias: I don’t like spiders or snakes but there is no way I am going to look a wuss on the trials!
Biggest misconception you want to dispel in the Jungle: I’d like to change people’s perceptions about footballers in general but I know my family and friends know the real me – and that is what matters

Role in the Camp: Definitely not the chef! I’d like to provide banter to keep us all amused

Miss most: Aside from my wife and kids, my mobile phone and not being able to have any control over decisions I make

Dream Campmate: Brian May and Kim Kardashian

Celebrities enter the Jungle for many a reason. For former England footballer Kieron, it was to earn some serious dad-points.

“I’m A Celebrity… is a favourite in our house,” says Kieron. “I watch it with my children and they wanted me to do it. They begged me to go on!”

It wasn’t just his kids pushing him into it though – he’s also doing it for charity, donating his entire fee to the Jude Brady Foundation. But Kieron’s up for having a laugh whilst doing some good, with his eye firmly on the role of Camp clown: “I like to stir things up and I am a mickey taker,” he says. “I will amuse myself and have a banter with everyone.” Let’s hope they’re actually in the mood for some laughter…

Ed Sheeran passes his driving text in Ipswich

Ed Sheeran can ditch the L-plates after passing his practical driving test… less than three months after smashing theory.

He might be 24, but as one of the world’s top musicians, it’s fair to say he’s has a busy few years.

But singer Ed Sheeran can finally ditch the L-plates after he passed his practical driving test in Ipswich, Suffolk on Thursday.

Ed Sheeran 03

The Thinking Out Loud hit-maker took to Twitter to confirm the news, writing to his 15.6million followers: ‘Passed my driving test yesterday, zoom zoom zoom’.

Screen Shot 2015-11-01 at 08.58.43

The news was reiterated by driving school Total Driving who took to Facebook on Thursday to congratulate the Grammy-nominated star on his achievement.

The post read: ‘Congratulations to Ed S who passed his car test with us in Ipswich this afternoon. Good effort Ed!!!’

The caption was accompanied by a picture of the smiling redhead posing with his certificate in his hands.

Ed Sheeran 05

Ed’s happy news comes three months after he proudly passed his theory test, and was seen waving his certificate about as he emerged from a test centre in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

Ed Sheeran 02

He was greeted by a small group of fans who he willingly showed his results to, proudly showing off the piece of paper as he snapped selfies with an office worker.

After bidding farewell to the handful of admirers, the chart-topping singer headed to his car with a female companion, possibly his driving instructor.

Ed Sheeran 01

Ed jumped in the driver’s seat and drove off without divulging whether it’d been a successful test or not.

It’s been an extremely busy few months for the chart-topper, with the Suffolk-born star receiving an honorary degree for his outstanding contribution to music at University Campus Suffolk earlier this month.

It was soon followed by the premiere of his new movie Jumpers For Goalposts, then a presenting stint hosting the MTV EMAs with Ruby Rose in Milan, followed by a cameo appearance in Home and Away this week.

Mr Hooker – Stafford, Staffordshire

“I recently purchased a Mk2 RS2000 from Bridge Classic Cars. From the first phone call I found Gordon and the team very easy to deal with and nothing was too much trouble. I arranged a viewing and the car was exactly as listed. I was encouraged to give the car a full inspection including putting it on the ramp to look underneath and was given as much time as I wanted to inspect the car and its paperwork. Any little bits and pieces were listed by the team and sorted prior to collection. A very pleasant and easy purchase, I would highly recommend them”

Maserati Merak paintwork sign off

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The paintwork is now into the final stages of completion.

As with all classic car projects, it is vital to carefully inspect every stage before moving on to the next.  It is often easier to find the imperfections at every stage then to try and do it all at the end, when more often that not, it is too late.

The paint is looking absolutely stunning, a few minor alterations need to be made but we should be ready to move on within a week![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”2339,2338,2337,2336,2335,2334,2333″][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Modern classics, a sound investment

Classic experts from across the globe share market intelligence on the models gaining in value – and highlight the ones that are struggling. Market experts from both sides of the Atlantic say prices for 1980s and 1990s modern classics will continue to rise – and they’re predicting that cars from the early 2000s will become hot investment tips.

Honda S2000 Bridge Classic Cars

The Porsche 968, Honda S2000 and Mitsubishi Evo are among those tipped by members of a panel assembled by Hagerty International to assess the current state of the market. They also identified that British classics from the 1950s, particularly Ford saloons and Rootes Group models, are struggling to set the market alight.

Mitsubishi Evo Bridge Classic Cars

The price experts also highlighted – using sales data from the US and Europe – that investment in the classic market is currently offering a quicker return than either gold or the FTSE100, but while they think a price crash similar to the late 1980s is unlikely they did warn that speculators still had the potential to destablise a buoyant market. The panel also said it expected performance cars from the 2000s to be the next ones to find favour with classic car collectors.

Porsche 968 Bridge Classic Cars

Hagerty International managing director Angus Forsyth said: ‘The future cars of interest will be those which would be a screen saver for tomorrow’s collectors – we call it the Top Gear effect, because we know a wide audience including teenagers enjoy seeing the cars that the show features. It’s these cars that are predicted to be the next collectibles of the classic car market.’

1961 Jensen 541S

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]History of the Jensen 541S

The Jensen 541S was Jensen Motors luxury GT model of the Jensen 541 series, being 4″ wider than the 541R, which had the advantages of making the interior roomier and improving the road holding. The 541S had a conventional radiator grill (as opposed to the flap of the 541) to allow for the extra heat given by a proposed new V8 engine, and a Salisbury limited slip differential for the extra torque demanded.

Jensen used their own powerful version of the Austin DS5 4-litre straight-six engine (featuring triple SU carburetor, a high compression Weslake head with custom-made twin exhaust manifolds and an alloy baffled sump/oil cooler) in the 541S. Initially the Jensen brothers tested Chrysler Hemi V8s in the 541S, also trialed in Richard Jensen’s Jensen 541 deluxe, but none were used because of supply difficulties. One was fitted with a Chevrolet 327 V8 however, at Donald Healey‘s request. A total of 127 cars were hand-built between 1960 and 1962 at Jensen’s West Bromwich factory, most having GM-licensed Rolls-Royce hydramatic gearboxes. This was innovative at the time as performance cars mainly had manual gearboxes. It also suited the criteria of effortless speed and luxurious long distance driving Jensen set for their new car, although twenty-two were fitted with Moss manual gear boxes at the request of their prospective owners.

The Jensen 541S is also notable for being the first British car to have seat belts fitted as standard equipment. Another first for the 541 series was the use of Dunlop disc brakes on all four wheels. A rack and pinion steering system was employed, giving the car very positive steering. Other safety equipment included a padded windscreen surround, fire extinguisher and first-aid kit. Each car was also fitted with a Motorola radio.

The 541S was superseded by the Chrysler Golden Commando V8 powered Jensen CV8 model, which inherited from the 541S the same wheelbase and track dimensions, as well as the Jensen ethos of safe, easy, comfortable and fast inter-continental travel while the groundbreaking 1966 Jensen FF used a perimeter tube style chassis first tried on the 541 series of cars.

The body was totally stripped for paint and all crazing was taken back to original fibre mat, repaired and gelled.

At this time many original mould ripples and imperfections were removed to achieve the best finish possible.

Our story

Pukka Pies is an independent company with a passion for pies. They are made with the finest ingredients by dedicated and caring people. They are full filled in light pastry; they taste great and have true flavours. The proof is in the eating. Try one… They’re Delicious!

  • Pukka Pies is an independent company based in Leicestershire. We only bake pies with our name on them.
  • Our entire range is free from preservatives and hydrogenated fats.
  • 320 people work at Pukka Pies it is a great place to work. Staff welfare and job security is most important to our company.
  • Pukka Pies was set up in 1963 and we have sold more pies every year since then. Today we make over 60 million pies every year.
  • We only use the best ingredients from trusted suppliers who we have good working relationships with.

How Did We Get There…?

In 1963 the Beatles were at number one, Mary Quant decided short dresses were cool and the rest of the population were discovering bell bottoms!

Thankfully, Trevor Storer had other ideas on good taste. Quitting his day job he founded Trevor Storer’s Handmade Pie Company which started the smallest of bakeries and set about selling great tasting pies. His first creation was the Steak and Kidney Pie and it was Trevor’s wife Valerie who produced the recipe for the Chicken and Mushroom Pie which like all the pies, remains the exact recipe today. He baked the pies on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and sold them on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Trevor opened 13 accounts on the first day and sold 1,200 pies in the first week. By the end of the first year he employed just 12 members of staff. Pukka Pies now make over 69 million pies and pasties per year and have 320 members of staff.

In a flash of marketing genius, one year later he renamed the company Pukka Pies and the rest as they say, is history. Trevor Storer’s pies tasted great and were an instant hit. Bell bottoms may no longer be with us but Trevor Storers pies most certainly are. Pukka Pies… Don’t Compromise!.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Festival of Classic and Sports Cars

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Sunday 2nd August 2015: 10:00am – 5:00pm

Held in association with the Suffolk Vehicle Enthusiasts Club (SVEC).

Over 5,000 people attended the 2014 festival. The event attracts classic and sports car owners who exhibit their cars some of which parade up and down the main drive on the two concourse runs throughout the day.
Over 700 vehicles attend, representing the last 10 decades of motoring history, including many from Britain’s motoring heyday – marques on display included Alvis, Bristol, Jensen, AC Riley, Armstong Sideley, Lea Francis, Crossley, BSA, Lagonda, Lanchester and Gordon Keeble. The oldest vehicle seen on display was a 1914 Ford Model T and the latest sports car models have included the Chevrolet Corvette and a Ford Mustang as well as Ferraris’ and Porsche.

This amazing collection of vehicles is displayed against the magnificent back drop of Helmingham Hall and its surrounding moat which sits in the middle of the ancient deer park.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” interval=”3″ images=”907,908,909,910,911,913,914,915,916,917,918,919″ onclick=”link_image” custom_links_target=”_self”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Mr and Mrs Fry – Droitwich, Worcestershire

“We are very pleased that we found Bridge Classic Cars. We have wanted an Austin Nippy for some time and Asa was more than happy to carry out little things that we found could be improved on. Nothing was too much trouble.”

The Merak’s V6

The Merak’s V6 engine descended from the 2.7 L Tipo C.114, originally designed by Giulio Alfieri in 1967 for use in the Citroën SM, that was bored out to 91.6 mm (piston stroke remained 75 mm) to displace 3 litres (2,965 cc).

It was a chain-driven double overhead camshaft, 12-valve unit featuring an unusual 90° angle between the cylinder banks.

The lubrication system used a wet sump and an oil cooler. This V6 did not end its days on the Merak: it was later modified and made into the first ever production twin-turbocharged engine in the Biturbo, ending its career in the 1990s Ghibli after reaching the highest specific output of any production engine at the time. The powerplant was mounted longitudinally behind the passenger compartment, and joined through a single-plate dry clutch to a 5-speed, all syncromesh Citroën transaxle gearbox and a limited-slip differential.

Now Recruiting…Classic Vehicle Restorer

Here at Bridge Classic Cars we are looking for new talent.

If you have a love for classic vehicles then we want to hear from you. We are searching for a new restorer to join the team and help us grow!

If you have experience in restoring classic vehicles, welding, motor mechanics, engine rebuilding, auto electrics and can work on your own initiative then why not get in touch. Experience in all of the fields above is a bonus but it’s not essential.

Number Plate News

PEN 15

The government has recently issued a 46-page report outlining the registrations that have been withdrawn from issue for risk of causing offence.

It’s a thankless task, over which the licensing authorities have often been ridiculed. But UK number plates have never been intended to represent names or words; it’s just a happy – and valuable – coincidence arising from a random process.

Almost since inception the guardians of the system have had to be on their guard. But times, fashions and language change. Very early on, the sequence ‘BF’ was blocked because of the now innocuous and laughable interpretation ‘bloody fool’.

Inevitably, some howlers have slipped through and it is rare for them to be recalled after the event.BO11 LUX was released in 2011, then withdrawn, but the owner took on the DVLA and it is now back on the road.

Perhaps the most infamous example is that of the registration PEN 15. The representation cannot be considered offensive on any grounds yet, since it has been in the possession of Regtransfers, it has fallen foul of more than one newspaper publisher reluctant to feature its promotion.

PEN 15 is being offered for sale at online auction until 11.30am Monday 6 July.

One Direction

One Direction

Unless they’re your initials, the letters DUK probably won’t mean much to you. But, to fans of the pop group One Direction – and, quite possibly, the members of the ensemble themselves – the registration 1 DUK says one thing: ‘1 D’ [One Direction] ‘UK’ [United Kingdom]. Consequently, a high price is anticipated when it goes up for auction in Stourbridge, West Midlands, on 6 July.

Of course, the plate dates back to 1963, when it was first issued by Wolverhampton County Borough Council and would be a desirable and distinctive combination in its own right.

Organisers of the sale are expecting the hammer to fall at between £25k and £30K. This respectable price is nothing compared to what was paid for the simple 1 D plate, which fetched a staggering £352,000 in 2009, the year before One Direction were formed.
