AC Cars recently revealed the production version of its new AC Cobra GT Coupe, a fixed-roof addition to the GT range. During AC Cars’ celebration of its 125th anniversary, the new coupe will be a key part of the company’s plans to expand from a low-volume manufacturer into a wider global performance brand.

Based on the same platform as the AC Cobra GT Roadster, the new GT Coupe shares around 75% of its engineering with its open-top stablemate. It uses AC’s own extruded aluminium spaceframe chassis and a full carbon fibre body, helping keep weight to around 1600kg.

It has a 5-litre V8, available in naturally aspirated or supercharged form. The naturally aspirated version produces 456 PS (around 450bhp) and 555Nm of torque, while the supercharged model increases that to 730 PS (around 720bhp) and 820Nm. In its most powerful form, the AC Cobra GT Coupe can accelerate from 0-60mph in under 3.5 seconds. Buyers can choose between a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 10-speed automatic with steering wheel-mounted paddles.

The design takes inspiration from the AC A98 coupe that raced at Le Mans in 1964. Its fixed roofline includes a double-bubble shape, while the rear features a Kammtail design to improve aerodynamic efficiency. Although larger than the original Cobra, the GT Coupe keeps a near 50:50 weight balance and a low centre of gravity.

Inside, the car has been designed as a grand tourer rather than a stripped-out track car. It includes electric windows, climate control, a touchscreen sat nav and infotainment system, digital driver information, analogue instrumentation, machined switchgear, and AC’s signature pedals.

The cabin can also be extensively personalised, with AC Cars offering bespoke paint, leather, upholstery, visible carbon fibre sections, and bodywork details.

“The AC Cobra GT Coupe is unique in the history of AC Cars and, with production of the GT Roadster now underway, it shows the road ahead for the company as we build and deliver cars for existing customers. AC Cars continues to invest in its operations, and develop new partnerships. This will provide the catalyst to take AC Cars from around 100 hand-built cars a year currently up to no more than 1000 cars across all models in total. As we celebrate the 125th anniversary of the company, I want to thank the entire team for their dedication as we move from a boutique manufacturer to a global performance brand. However, we will still retain the craftmanship and exclusivity that our clients respect.”

David Conza, Chief Executive Officer of AC Cars

Prices for the AC Cobra GT Coupe start from around £234,300 plus taxes for the naturally aspirated model. The supercharged version starts from £256,300 plus taxes.

Reservations are now open, with the first customer deliveries expected in 2028 after initial GT Roadster deliveries have been completed.
