XJS Assembly

Pete has made a lot of progress on our 1993 Jaguar XJS, starting with the reinstallation of the trim. The initial task involved marking and drilling bolt holes for the corner numbers, which could not be completed prior to painting as the fabrication of the rear bumper and brackets had not been finalised before the shell was sent to Chris for paint. Once the mounting points were prepared, the inner joints from earlier repairs were seam-sealed, and any exposed steel was coated with satin paint. This preparation allowed for the full assembly of the rear bumper.

Next, the rear lights and security system were refitted, and the wiring was tidied up in preparation for reinstalling the carpets. The process of fitting the carpets was challenging but manageable once their layout became clear. They were secured with spray adhesive, replicating the original factory method, and the clipped-in trims and cover panels were reinstalled without issue.

Attention then shifted to the exhaust system, where new clamps were added as needed, and the tailpipe trims were refitted. Finally, work moved to the front of the car. The freshly blacked lower grille and the cleaned upper grille were reinstalled, restoring the car’s distinctive front-end.
