The paint and body shop here at Bridge Classic Cars has always got something going on – wether its a bare metal restoration project, a modern car in for paint repairs or a classic having some TLC. The guys in the body shop show off their skills every time you walk into their department.
Bodywork is a skill based on experience, feel and an inherent understanding how a material can be worked and shaped. So, when I was walking through there today I saw our technician Mauro working on the 1955 Aston Martin DB2/4 Drophead. Mauro has been working on panel gapping the entire car to an even and uniform panel fitment of 5mm – this being done through every single join in every single panel or opening. Using rasps, hammers, dollies, slide hammers, files, orbital sanders etc. to get it close to perfect and then using feel and guages he perfects down to the last 1/100th of an inch before checking over everything one more time in 3D.
I love having the chance to witness the level of passion, craftsmanship and skill by the team in our body shop. So, I hope you enjoy these photos.
