With the recent arrival of the 1983 Toyota Hilux, our technician Jon has been working his way throug the recommission of the classic pickup truck aswell as carrying out some other work for the trucks owner.
”Get on ramp and painful tank. Disconnect fuel line from pre filter and blow back to tank. Removeair filter. Disconnect pipe from pump to carb and also blow out. Reconnect pipes to filterand pump. Remove distributor cap and check points. Clean rotor arm and oil cam. Refit cap. Remove spark plugs. Clean and regap to 0.8mm and tighten top caps. Refit and connect Ht leads. Reconnect pipe at carb. Put 10 ltrs E5 petrol in. Jump start and check exhaust. Centre silencer holed and blowing. Order new battery and exhaust and wait until replaced to check running etc.”
Then, our technician Steve could take the pickup outside and carry out a compression test to make sure the 4-cylinder was in good health – with all cylinders showing 150psi.
