Working on the 2008 Land Rover Defender 110 Pickup

Jon has been continuing with his work on the 2008 Land Rover Defender 110 Pickup here at the Bridge Classic Cars HQ with repairs, diagnostics and checks.

‘Continue removing excess wiring. Trace wiring up a pillar into roof. Remove roof lining and give to Steve to clean. Remove wiring no longer required. Fit new bumper to front. With new end caps. Refit roof lining now it’s done. Use clips to hold up properly and refit sun visors also cleaned by Steve. Fit new gear lever. Fit new wiper blades and fit new cover to rear number plate.’

‘Fit grommets to holes in dash. Raise and drain oil and filter. Remove calibrated speedo sensor and wiring into car. Fit new oil filter and torque sump bung. Strip and remove rear axle a frame ball joint. Take off complete with mount as very corroded.’

‘Cut sides off old joint and use press to remove. Clean and fit new balll joint. Refit to frame and secure to axle. Remove rear prop front joint and remove transmission brake drum. Found output seal on transfer box leaking and contaminated shoes.’

‘Remove shoes and cleanbackplate and lube. Clean parts to be reused. Drill and refit nearside rear mudflap.’

‘Finish cleaning trans brake parts and assemble handbrake arm and put together with new shoes ready. Remove pinion and drain transfer box. Inspect pinion OK. Lower and fill engine with newnoil. Run up and top up. Secure nearside door lock button surround. Disconnect recirculation flap cable ready. Offside mirror insecure. Removehinde to door bolts and access mirror fixings. Bottom fixing thread gone. Remove mirror and drill and tap out to 8mm. Cut bolt to fit. Refit mirror to top hinge and secure. Refit hinge to door and secure. Check door opens and closes ok. Repair inner door shield and refit door panel.’

‘Fit new recirculation flap control cable. Link cables together and pull new cable in as pull old one out. Align and fit. Test OK. Refit centre dash and switches. Refit stereo and microphone. Fit new screws to hold in centre and fit black number plate screw caps to cover. Test items, all work except stereo and clock. Check fuse and replace blown one. Check clock and stereo working OK now. Mark, measure a nd fit new front number plate.’

‘Fit transfer box out put seal and refit pinion. Fit new felt washer and Torque to spec. Fit brake drum and adjust shoes. Refit propshaft and secure. Put battery back in and work out how to secure. Cut down rods for battery hold down and fit. Place small piece of wood behind battery and tighten hold down wing nuts.’

‘Drill and fix clips to hold wheel brace in storage area with battery. Fit battery negative terminal and secure. Positive terminal won’t quite fit. Move battery hold down rod. Cover in shrink wrap. Apply sticky back foam to terminal back to insulate in case of contact. Fit positive terminal. Refit metal covering seat base. Take outside and align steering wheel. Road test. Wheel still slightly out. Sort when doing pdi. Otherwise OK.’
