The workshops at our Suffolk HQ are always busy with cars constantly coming in and out. Sometimes though, we get to see an old friend come back to the Pettistree workshops and this week we welcomed back a previous competition car of ours which was won some time ago by Karl – our 1973 Porsche 914.

Little Jon has been busy working his way through the list of jobs on the car, which is being prepared for a summer roadtrip.

”Start looking through jobs on list and start with jobs that may need parts ordered. Temp gauge not working. Temp gauge for oil temp not always wired from factory. Sure enough it has a sensor and gauge but the two have not ever been wired in. Check gauge function ok. Trace wires under centre console where they change colour. Trace wire from sensor into engine bay. Check continuity and then run wire from sensor in bay to connector in loom under battery. Secure wire in place. Check gear lever bushes a d found bushes work and non existent in places. Confirm alternator not charging. Remove regulator and inspect. Start stripping to remove alternator.”

”Check boot release handle and form a plan to secure it later as new part not available. Disconnect battery and strip and remove alternator. Tape up alternator wiring to stop accidental short circuit and reconnect battery. Strip and remove steering wheel and look into indicator fault .”

”Attend to boot release cable. Cut nut to slide over cable and secure cable holder into panel. Will require TWO HANDS to open or will eventually pull through panel again. Part we need is unavailable so I’ve done what I can. Remove wiper and indicator stalks and split. Indicator stalk broken requires new part.”
