Our restoration workshops are always busy. A constant flow of classics beginning and ending their restoration journeys with us, but one classic is in the process of getting ‘back in the metal’ which is our 1969 Aston Martin DB6 Volante.
Currently, Pete is working his way through the car creating new panels and repairing areas which have corroded over the years. At the moment, Pete has been working his way through the offside wheel arch area of the car to get it back to spec.

”Finding a thin area of alloy whilst cleaning the new panels it was decided to cut and replace that area with new materials. This required some tight trimming and fitting/fettling of the replacement strip.
I have then continued to fit and fettle the wheel arch, this side seems much more prone to panel warp.. suggesting a different material batch when the original body was formed.
Ben also joined me today for a period and between us we removed the power steering rack for a full overhaul. Each part bagged and tagged as per our previous coalitions on this car.”

”he rear axle was sent off to be reconditioned but was assessed and found to be in good condition, so was brought back for paint but first I had to degrease and remove the rust so it won’t come back. The rack is to be sent off for recon and in the mean time I am blasting and sending over to the paint shop for satin black ready for it to come back. Around this I have been studying the photos of the restored DB6 and our past bonnet photos to make sure everything is done in the correct colour.”

”The final sections have gone into the cars main body now, we also found one last missed weld repair from it’s previous restoration, now duely welded and sealed!
We have a few loose ends to complete with the main body to finalise but the rod is replaced with new metal and wire edging.. a large stepping stone for this build!”
