Rob, one of our restoration technicians, has been working his way through the list of jobs to carry out on the 1960 Austin Healey 3000. First up, Rob has worked on putting the all-important sump guard on the classic endurace race car. First off, Rob offered up the piece to the underside of the classic GT car to mark out and place the brackets needed to hold the panel in the right to protect vital components.
Once marked out, Rob could grind down the areas clean them up and weld the brackets in place. One in place, another trial fit to make sure then Rob could securely weld them into place before painting the area to protect the chassis from corrosion.
After that was in place, Rob could turn his attention to the cooling system on the car – possibly one of the most important systems in the whole vintage rally car.
