The Bridge Classic Cars restoration team have been slowly but surely cutting for the To-Do list on the 1987 Mercedes 500SL. This particular restoration is one of our personal cars in the collection so it’s being done as and when the team have time. Both our Workshop Manager, John, and our restoration technician, Jon, have been working on the iconic German V8 convertible. The team are working on some of the smaller systems such as the window mechanics, heater controls and inspecting the fuel system for the car.
‘Clean and lubricate side dash vent controls ready for fitting. Work through vacuum pipe diagram and check and connect heater controls. Find plastic pin and connect offside heater control to heater. Clean and lubricate the roof release mechanism.’
‘Sort and fit heater control levers on drivers wide. Heater control hits wiring loom before complete stroke. Move loom and it will clear but need assistance to secure loom away from heater. Attend to both scuttle panel grills. Flex mesh to correct shape and stick to grill with terasin. Fit grills and secure in place temporarily with panel clips. Fit fuel pump and cover then hook up fuel lines and see what we require.‘
