It’s another milestone at the Bridge Classic Cars restoration workshops – our 1969 Audi 72L is now up and running thanks to our incredible team of technicians. Will, with the help of Jon, has been working on getting the 4-cylinder engine running smoothly and evenly.
First of all, the team disconnected the ingition coil for the team to build oil pressure inside the engine before reattaching the coil ready for the first fire. With Will turning the engine over and Jon manipulating the throttle butterfly, the engine burst into life. Once the car began to heat up, Will and Jon were checking over pipework for leaks but also to see if the coolant was moving throughout the system correctly.
Then, out came the timing gun. Small, delicate and precise timing changes made, the engine ran perfect and idled. So, it was time to check wether everything worked as it should. Only a few inches off the ground with the help of our workshop ramps, Will put the Audi into gear for the first time in decades and we all saw the car ‘move’ for the first time.
