Uber and Lyft are going to launch Chinese-built driverless taxis in London in 2026, as both companies plan to trial Baidu’s Apollo Go robotaxis on UK roads.

The move is part of the UK government’s push to roll out autonomous vehicles, with pilot schemes expected to begin in spring 2026.

Baidu’s Apollo Go service is already operating in cities across China, as well as in Hong Kong and Dubai. Now, Uber and Lyft want to test the same technology in Europe, starting with London.

The trials are expected to start with a modest fleet, with plans to expand if successful. Both companies are positioning the move as a step towards offering safer and more reliable travel options, but public trust in driverless tech remains low.

Let’s see how these trials go!
