The first Norton F1R motorcycle to be produced and raced will be available to buy at an auction hosted by H&H Classics at the National Motorcycle Museum on Wednesday 30th October 2024. The bike is estimated to sell for between £52,000 and £56,000.
This 1990 Norton F1R is frame number one and was the first P55 (F1) model to leave Norton’s Shenstone factory on April 1st, 1990. Having been owned by a single individual since new, the bike holds significant historical and racing value and it was famously raced in Germany’s “Battle of the Twins” series.
Throughout its racing career, the bike underwent various modifications. Starting with minor tweaks like an upgraded exhaust and inlet tract, it later received a custom swinging arm, front forks, high-compression rotors, aero engine twin-plug trochoids, and Mikuni flat-slide carburettors.
A very cool point to note about this bike is that it was nicknamed “Nepomuk” by the Seifert family after a little dragon from a popular German children’s puppet show. This was due to its habit of shooting flames when decelerating into corners!
“Our auction at the end of October is an incredible opportunity to own an extremely rare slice of motorcycle history. We expect a lot of interest in this special Norton F1 which has seen competitive action and won a number of races. It also looks amazing and is instantly recognisable in its black livery. Style, power and performance…the Norton F1R is the total package and this particular model, which has been running recently, is a must have for any Norton aficionado.”
A recent survey conducted by Isuzu UK has given us insight into how UK motorists view their own driving skills and, as it turns out, we are terrible! Well, that’s according to 15% of the drivers polled who admitted that they are bad drivers. To make things worse, 4% of drivers in the survey actually considered themselves a danger on the road!
Drivers in Cardiff, London, and Liverpool had the highest percentages of self-confessed bad drivers with 35%, 33%, and 31% of drivers in the cities owning up to their poor driving skills.
On the flip side to this, drivers in Stoke-on-Trent have the highest confidence in their driving abilities, as none admitted to being bad behind the wheel. Other cities like Nottingham (2%), Cambridge (3%), and Edinburgh (4%) also rated themselves highly in terms of driving safety.
The survey, which explored various factors contributing to these opinions, found that the challenges of modern roads play a significant role. Over half of drivers (54%) admitted they had been involved in an accident due to distractions, with 36% blaming overcrowded roads, and 32% wishing their vehicles had more advanced safety features.
Interestingly, 62% of those surveyed expressed a desire to improve their driving skills, with 61% believing they wouldn’t pass their driving test if they had to take it again. This concern is greater among drivers over the age of 60, where 63% doubt their ability to pass a modern driving test.
The study also highlighted that many drivers struggle with basic driving tasks. Around 38% find parallel parking difficult, while a third (32%) lack knowledge of car maintenance, such as checking tyre pressure or coolant levels. Other common struggles include parking in a bay (19%), driving at the speed limit (19%), and reversing around corners (17%).
“With over 50 million drivers in Great Britain, it is worrying to think that as many as 7.5 million consider themselves bad drivers. It’s clear from the research that UK motorists face many challenges on all journeys, from smaller roads, tight parking bays and even their own vehicle. With one in three saying that having a vehicle with all the mod cons like blind spot detection and attention monitoring sensors would help them to be a better driver.
Isuzu D-Max’s Advanced Driver Assist System takes pick-up truck safety to a whole new level thanks to rear cross traffic alert, lane departure prevention system and autonomous emergency braking so you’ll never have to worry behind the wheel again. This fantastic safety doesn’t happen by accident.”
George Wallis, Head of Marketing at Isuzu UK
Image: Isuzu UKImage: Isuzu UK
Beyond their own skills, many drivers feel unsafe in their vehicles due to outdated technology. One-third of drivers in the survey said they wish their cars had modern features like blind spot detection and attention monitoring systems to help them drive more safely. 36% also said that driving a larger car would make them feel safer on the road.
The survey also found that men were more likely than women to admit they had been in an accident due to a lack of concentration (61% vs. 47%), and younger generations (the widely discussed Gen Z and Millennials) reported being on the receiving end of road rage more often than other groups (67%).
CITIES WITH THE WORST DRIVERS, ACCORDING TO BRITISH DRIVERS:
The new car will be revealed on Sunday 6th October 2024 at 13:00 BST and, I imagine, it’s going to be something as eye-catching as you’d expect!
All we know so far is that the W1 name has been chosen to celebrate McLaren’s “World Championship mindset” which explains why the 6th of October has been selected as the official reveal – this is the 50th anniversary of McLaren winning its first Formula 1 Constructor’s Championship in the same year that Emerson Fittipaldi won the World Drivers’ Championship with McLaren.
On Wednesday, 9th October, H&H Classics will host an auction at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford. At the company’s final Cambridgeshire auction of the year, there will be 160 classic, collectable, and performance cars going under the hammer. The total value of these vehicles is estimated at over £6.5 million, which is sure to attract plenty of attention from all those in attendance.
Craig and Gordon will be ready to bid as they are heading to Duxfrod for the auction. Excitingly, Me, Nick, and Molly will also be going to meet up with some of the H&H team before the auction for some filming!
Another exciting point about this particular auction is the range of cars on offer, with models spanning over 120 years of motoring history – from early 20th-century classics to more modern performance cars.
“It’s great to mark our final Duxford sale of the year with such an impressive collection of vehicles for sale. We always have fantastic and well attended auctions in Cambridgeshire, and with such an extensive and diverse offering, I expect October’s sale to be no different.”
James McWilliam, sales manager, H&H Classics
One of the most interesting lots is a rare 1957 Bentley S1 Continental Park Ward Drophead Coupé Adaption, which is expected to sell for somewhere between £300,000 and £400,000. While this is obviously a high ticket car, there are actually 23 cars being offered without reserve, so there’s a chance that the everyday auction goer can walk away with something special too.
Also available is a 1980 pre-production Lotus Esprit ‘Essex’ Turbo which was used to develop Active Suspension for Formula One and is thought to be the first vehicle in the world with this technology. It’s expected to sell for between £70,000 and £80,000 and will make a great addition to someone’s collection.
I recently spoke about a 1967 Jaguar Mark X 4.2, purchased by Madonna for her son Rocco which will be available to buy in the auction. It’s being offered without reserve and I’m always interested to see how much celebrity connections influence what people are prepared to pay for a car.

Dutch Barn Vodka was founded by Chris Fraser, in an old Dutch barn on Ellers Farm in North Yorkshire. After spotting unused apples in an abandoned orchard, Chris set about creating a high-quality vodka using British apples while also having sustainability at the forefront of his operations.
From a small pot still back then, Dutch Barn Vodka has now become a successful distillery, producing award-winning vodka that’s recognised not only for its taste but also for its positive environmental impact.
The distillery uses local water sourced from beneath the farm, and the brown glass bottles the vodka comes in are made from over 60% recycled glass – far more than the industry standard for clear bottles.
Plus, the distillery runs on renewable energy, reducing its carbon footprint even further.
Each batch of Dutch Barn Vodka is distilled a minimum of 70 times to make sure the finish is as smooth as possible. The apples are complemented by a small amount of potato spirit, adding a creamy texture that balances the natural fruitiness.
Ricky has taken on a creative leadership role within the brand, helping to share its message of quality, sustainability, and innovation. His aim is to bring Dutch Barn Vodka to a wider audience while ensuring that the company continues to produce exceptional, planet-friendly vodka.
The Classic Lounge
Next time you’re at Bridge Classic Cars, you will have to have a glass of Dutch Barn Vodka and try it for yourself. Ricky Gervais is also set to be just down the road from the Bridge Classic Cars workshop in Ipswich soon, so we will definitely be enjoying some of his vodka while he entertains our local friends.
UK car production saw a drop of 8.4% in August, according to recent data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). Traditionally, August is a low-production month anyway as a result of summer shutdowns, and this year’s decrease only amounted to 3,781 fewer vehicles, with 41,271 cars coming off the assembly lines.
This decline aligns with the ongoing trend seen throughout the year, as factories reduce the output of existing models and prepare to produce new ones, particularly electric vehicles (EVs). This shift follows last year’s announcement of £24 billion in investment into the UK’s automotive industry.
Production of electrified vehicles, including battery electric, plug-in hybrid, and hybrid models, took a big hit, dropping by 25.9%. This brought the share of electrified vehicles to 29.6% of total output. However, the fall is expected to be temporary as manufacturers transition to new models.
Domestic production experienced a steep decline of 19.8%. However, it’s worth noting that this figure is amplified by the typically low production volume in August, with most UK-made cars destined for export markets.
In comparison, exports decreased by 5.9%, largely driven by changes to models destined for the EU. The European Union remains the largest export market for UK-made cars, accounting for nearly half (49.8%) of exports. Other key markets include the US (17%), China (6.5%), Japan (5.1%), and Australia (4.4%), with notable growth in both the US and Japanese markets.
Year-to-date figures reveal an overall decline in UK car production of 8.5%, with a total of 522,823 units produced. Despite August’s domestic downturn, production for the UK market is up 12.3% for the year.
Hennessey, a hypercar and high-performance vehicle manufacturer in Texas, has just released its even more potent alternative to the Ford F-150 Raptor – the Hennessey Venom 800 F-150 and it is an absolute beast!
As there were so many customers who missed out on the Raptor R, Hennessey decided to create something new to subdue the disappointed petrolheads which led to the introduction of the Venom 800 F-150 which has some pretty impressive specifications.
Don’t be fooled by the size of this truck – it’s not just a very capable workhorse but it is also exceptionally fast. Producing 800 bhp at 6,200 rpm and 757 lb-ft of torque at 4,100 rpm the Venom 800 can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds and cover a quarter-mile in 11.7 seconds!
“Demand for powerfully designed and engineered Hennessey trucks continues to grow strongly. Our new Venom 800 F-150 is the super truck that our clients have been asking for. Highly capable both on- and off-road, it offers the perfect combination of performance, utility, and luxury.”
This Venom 800 features some pretty extensive upgrades including significant improvements to the suspension, wheels, tyres, and powertrain. Some of the most exciting upgrades are the addition of a 3.0-litre supercharger, upgraded air-to-water intercooler, high-performance fuel injection, and a high-flow air induction system. These have been paired with Hennessey’s proprietary engine management calibration, a dual-tip cat-back exhaust, and six-piston Brembo brakes to further beef up the Venom 800’s capabilities.
Hennessey Venom 800 – On And Off The Road
In addition to the sheer power of the Venom 800, the truck is also very capable off-road. It features a six-inch BDS suspension lift with FOX coilovers, improved rear shocks, 20-inch Hennessey 10-spoke wheels, and 35-inch off-road tyres. The tough front and rear ‘Venom’ bumpers are made of steel and come with integrated LED off-road lights in the front.
Despite its power, speed, and durability, the Venom 800 is also stylish and comfortable. It has a one-piece carbon fibre grille, electronic fold-out running boards, and illuminated Venom 800 badges on the front fenders. Inside, the truck has embroidered Hennessey script on the headrests, all-weather floor mats, American flag inserts, and a serial-numbered plaque.
For 2024, only 250 units of this limited-edition model will be available globally.
Back in 2015, the team behind Iconic Auctioneers (previously known as Silverstone Auctions), formed Classic Car Auctions (CCA). The company has always operated independently of its sister company and has specialised in Everyman Classics. However, things are changing and the two companies are about to merge with Iconic Auctioneers being the name for the combined companies.
One of our visits to CCAOne of our visits to CCAOne of our visits to CCAOne of our visits to CCA
The Classic Car Sale being hosted by CCA on September 28, 2024, at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, will be the final auction held under the Classic Car Auctions Ltd. name. From October, CCA will officially be acquired by Iconic Auctioneers Ltd, merging the two companies into one.
Despite the acquisition, the team behind Classic Car Auctions will remain the same, and the auctions will continue to be hosted at many of their familiar venues. However, there will be a fresh look. The auctions will be rebranded as The Classic Sales by Iconic Auctioneers, with a new logo and branding to match.
“Most of our customers know that CCA and IA are sister companies, so bringing them together as one company makes sense, but more importantly it will significantly enhance the exposure of the CCA cars on the Iconic Auctioneers website, which is a much busier site. It will also allow buyers to search for specific marques across all our sales in one place. As well as offer customers a wider range of services including Iconic Auctioneers online, motorcycle, automobilia and private sales.”
Rob Hubbard, Managing Director of Iconic Auctioneers
On this website, you’ll be able to browse upcoming and past Classic Sales, along with other auctions offered by Iconic Auctioneers. The site will use a colour-coding system to differentiate the sales – Classic Sales will have a burgundy sidebar and feature the new CCA logo, while Iconic Auctioneers sales will display a blue sidebar with their IA logo.
This updated branding will also be reflected on the company’s social media channels and advertisements.
We very often attend auctions hosted by both companies so we are excited to see what the future holds now they are becoming one!
Hyundai Motor Company and Škoda Group have joined forces to try to advance hydrogen mobility by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) during the Korea-Czech Business Summit, held in Prague on September 20th, 2024. Our friends at H&H Classics have moved out of their long-standing base into a temporary location in preparation for a permanent move into new premises. Their eventual new home will be something of a hub for the classic car community and we are very much looking forward to seeing it in the very near future.
H&H has been hosting auctions for more than 30 years, with almost 20 of those having its base at The Motor House in Warrington. For the time being, Cinnamon House in Warrington is where the team at H&H will be working from but the permanent location will be designed to host auctions, automotive events, and more.

The new premises aim to be an ideal base for clients and employees, with the H&H Management stating their commitment to ensuring it offers a productive and enjoyable work environment.
“H&H Classics plays an integral role in the classic car community, so we’re keen to make sure our future location will give something back to enthusiasts, as well as being an exciting base for our business and our employees. Watch this space for more details, which we will announce in due course.”
– Colette McKay, managing director at H&H Classics
Although headquartered in Cheshire, H&H Classics hosts auctions throughout the UK, including in Derbyshire, Cambridgeshire, and the West Midlands. This national presence has helped the company build and develop a huge network of clients and industry contacts. Since the beginning of 2024, H&H has offered highly sought-after vehicles, such as a scooter featured in the film Quadrophenia and a Bentley once owned by Peter Sellers. A recent automobilia auction at the Warrington location saw every single lot successfully sold, proving the auction house’s continued success.
While fond memories are obviously attached to The Motor House, H&H Classics is keen to move into the next chapter of its story with its soon-to-be-announced new premises.
“We’ll miss The Motor House as we have fond memories built up over nearly two decades, but more importantly substantial new premises will be revealed soon and, we hope, will be a beacon for classic car owners.”
– Colette McKay, managing director at H&H Classics

The new Volkswagen Transporter has finally been revealed by film legend, Jason Statham.
For those of you who haven’t yet made the connection, Statham was in the run of films called ‘The Transporter’ where he transported any package, no matter the legality, to wherever his customers needed it to be.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWCV) recruited Jason Statham as his on-screen character transported his cargo no matter what and VW are obviously looking to demonstrate the capabilities of the new Transporter in that way too.
The first video trailer was released on Sunday in Hanover and featured both Statham and the new Transporter van.
“We are thrilled to have Jason Statham as the face of our new campaign. Its energy and unmistakable style are a perfect match for our new Transporter, which is known for its robustness, reliability and innovative technology. The reactions to the trailer here on site and online were promising.“
– Sandra Waidelich, Head of Sales & Marketing Experience at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles
The advertising campaign is looking to demonstrate the impressive features of the van such as load capacity, superior driving characteristics, and state-of-the-art safety features.
At the weekend, I headed down to Beaulieu with Nick and Molly for the International Autojumble at the National Motor Museum. As we are around classic cars every day, it can take quite a lot to wow us when it comes to motoring history. However, after spending some time in the museum and browsing the autojumble, all three of us were very impressed
We would all like to say a big thank you to Poppy and the rest of the team at the museum for reaching out to Molly and inviting us to the event – we all had a fantastic day!
The Best Bits of the International Autojumble
1. The National Motor Museum
The National Motor Museum is home to close to 300 vehicles, from early motor cars to more modern machines.
A personal favourite of mine was the 1000bhp Sunbeam that is currently being restored at the museum.
This car, known as ‘The Slug’ was the one that Major Henry Segrave drove on Daytona Beach at more than 200mph on the 29th of March 1927. This was the first time that any car had ever reached this speed and set a new land speed record. Now, almost 100 years later, the museum is slowly bringing this ground-breaking car back to life thanks to its fundraising campaign.
The campaign aims to raise £300,000 for a full restoration and to take ‘The Slug’ back to Daytona Beach in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the record in 2027. Restoring a car that has two 22.5-litre V12 engines is obviously a huge task so a major fundraising campaign is needed to make it possible.
As well as ‘The Slug’, Nick clearly enjoyed seeing a 1953 Volkswagen Type 1 “Beetle” that was very similar to one he used to own. He has also said that 1953 produced his favourite version of this iconic classic.
Molly also had a great time putting the many interactive exhibits to good use!
2. Classic Cars for Sale
It was great to be able to spend some time getting a closer look at some of the cars going under the hammer with Bonhams. From MGBs to E-Types and everything in between, there was a huge variety of vehicles up for sale.
The three of us haven’t been to many car auctions so to get up close with cars of this calibre certainly added another level of excitement to our day.
3. The Automart
The Automart is where you go to find a project. Whether you are looking for a shell of a car to rebuild and bring back to life or a non-runner that will be back up and running with a little bit of time and attention – there are plenty of options.
We see cars in various stages of restoration in the Bridge Classic Cars workshop so it’s really nice that everyone in attendance had the opportunity to see some of the best-looking cars of all time in various states of repair!
4. The Autojumble
The International Autojumble is a huge event that features a wide variety of car parts, memorabilia, display pieces, and everything in between.
Perhaps one example that goes some way in explaining the range of things available is by looking at what the three of us purchased. Nick got a framed poster of the Silver Arrow W196 that sold for £19 million, Molly bought a Lambretta poster, and I got a small Rolls-Royce picture and a steering wheel!
In addition to our purchases, we saw old workshop manuals, vintage petrol pumps, signs, classic car brochures from back in the day, and more tools than the entire workshop team could ever need!
The Monorail, Top Gear, and More
We couldn’t visit the National Motor Museum without taking a ride on the monorail. The short trip allowed us to see a big part of the autojumble from above (and have a great time while doing so).
The Top Gear exhibition was definitely something all three of us loved. With Top Gear and The Grand Tour now coming to an end, it seemed so relevant that we could see some of the most iconic and memorable vehicles from the show in person.
The on-screen cars exhibit also brought back memories of TV shows and films that we have all watched over the years.
Bridge Classic Cars at the International Autojumble
The International Autojumble was a fantastic event for us to attend. There was so much to see and so many different vehicles to look at on top of the vast number of stallholders selling some hard-to-find pieces.
As I have said previously, we have cars from the early 1900s all the way through to modern cars around us every day in the Bridge Classic Cars workshop but, even with that in mind, Molly, Nick, and I found the display vehicles to be attention-grabbing and we loved every minute of our visit.
This was our first time at the International Autojumble and we will certainly be going back again. Once again, thank you to everyone at the National Motor Museum for such a great day and we hope to see you again very soon!
On Sunday, September 8th, Helmingham Hall in Suffolk hosted Suffolk Dog Day, presented by St Elizabeth Hospice. This event was all about fun activities for the family, dog shows, and a whole load of opportunities for pet owners to celebrate the dogs in their lives. This year’s event was even more special for us, as we brought Suffolk Dog Day into our 20th anniversary celebration.
As part of our 20th-anniversary celebrations, the team here at Bridge Classic Cars has committed to performing 20 good deeds throughout the year as a way of giving back to the community that has supported us over the past two decades. On Sunday, one of these good deeds was providing the vehicle being used for the donation station on behalf of RSPCA Suffolk Central. All donations received will be used in the Martlesham Animal Rescue Centre, shops, and welfare clinics.
We had our van on site all day to receive your donations. We collected so much more than we were expecting so the delivery to the rescue centre on Tuesday morning was very exciting.
An auction taking place on Wednesday, 9th October, is offering car enthusiasts and collectors the chance to own two very special cars. The auction, hosted by H&H Classics at the Imperial War Museum Duxford, will feature the oldest known surviving Ford AVO Car, a 1970 Ford Escort Mexico and a 1967 Jaguar Mark X 4.2, once owned by pop legend Madonna.
The Oldest Known Ford AVO Car – Ford Escort Mexico
Believed to be the oldest surviving model from Ford’s Advanced Vehicle Operations (AVO), the 1970 Ford Escort Mexico was one of the few “launch” models built in October 1970, just before official production began.
Expected to sell for between £60,000-£70,000, this car holds a special place in Ford’s history. It carries a unique ‘LVX’ press registration plate, indicating its use for promotional purposes by Ford. The Escort Mexico has been fully restored between 2006 and 2017, with over £60,000 invested to bring it back to its factory-original specification. The restoration was focused on preserving as many original parts as possible while using genuine replacements when needed.
This specific example was also lent to Hendon Police College and tested against trainee pursuit drivers before later being purchased by a police officer from the same driving school. The Escort is accompanied by a detailed history file, which includes a rare sales brochure, a feature in Classic Ford magazine, and the original logbook.
“It’s a privilege to offer this 1970 Ford Escort Mexico AVO car for auction.
It is an unmissable opportunity for any fast Ford fanatic as opportunities to acquire AVO cars with such provenance are truly unrepeatable.”
This Mexico is one of the first handful of Escort Mexico’s produced, believed to be one of four, before official production began. It is also the joint second Mexico registered, being registered new to Ford Motor Company on December 4th 1970.
We expect there to be strong interest in this very special model at our auction in October.”
– Paul Cheetham, motor car specialist at H&H Classics
A Celebrity Connection – Madonna’s 1967 Jaguar Mark X 4.2
In addition to the Ford Mexico, the auction will also feature a 1967 Jaguar Mark X 4.2 that was once owned by global music superstar Madonna. Purchased by Madonna in 2021 for her son Rocco Ritchie, it is now being offered at no reserve!
The Jaguar Mark X 4.2 is a special model in its own right. Known for its large, luxurious design, the Mark X was primarily targeted at the North American market, appealing to high-profile buyers such as diplomats and film stars. The 4.2-litre version, produced for just two years, had impressive features for its time, including independent rear suspension and a top speed of 120mph, making it a more affordable alternative to the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud.
The car has recently undergone a full repaint in Opalescent Maroon and comes with its original green logbook.
“It’s incredible to be offering a Jaguar for sale with such close connections to Madonna and I’m sure fans and classic car collectors will be hung up on this Mark X.
“Putting aside its famous celebrity connection, this Big Cat is a rare 4.2 litre example that was only in production for two years, and I’m sure Rocco would have enjoyed driving it.
There were only 5,137 Jaguar Mark X 4.2 litre models ever built. Our auction offers the chance to own an important piece of British motoring history that has also been bought by one of the most famous people on the planet. It’s a car that will always remain in vogue.”
– Lucas Gomersall, motor car specialist at H&H Classics

We’re already looking forward to next year’s Goodwood season!
Each year, World EV Day promotes the importance of sustainable transport, and this year, in 2024, it’s probably more relevant than ever. As the world is realising our battle with climate change is going to be a big one, the electric vehicle (EV) initiative offers a cleaner, greener alternative to fossil-fuelled vehicles. On September 9th, we acknowledge that there is and will continue to be a shift towards a more sustainable automotive industry.
The Start of World EV Day
Back in 2020, World EV Day began with a mission to celebrate electric vehicles and encourage more drivers to make the switch. Fast forward to 2024, and EVs are no longer the niche products they once were. The event has grown into a global movement, with governments, car manufacturers, and consumers coming together to push for an electric-powered future.
The transportation sector remains a significant contributor to global carbon emissions, and EVs offer one way to reduce this footprint. According to the 2022 World EV Day whitepaper, the number of EVs on global roads doubled between 2021 and 2022 as more drivers understand their impact on the planet.
Why 2024 is important
The UK is pushing towards a ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2035. With advancements in battery technology, more efficient charging stations, and increased affordability, the barriers to going electric are gradually coming down.
That being said, there’s still work to be done. The 2022 whitepaper research highlighted that while 64% of people planning to buy a car would consider an EV, many still find the process confusing. Concerns about the perceived cost and availability of charging infrastructure remain common stumbling blocks.
What’s New in 2024?
In 2024, several exciting technologies are big talking points. Solid-state batteries, which promise faster charging times, longer ranges, and increased safety, are set to potentially change the game. As manufacturers work to perfect this technology, it could mean the end of range anxiety – one of the biggest concerns for potential EV buyers.
Another development is vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology, which allows EVs to not just take power from the grid but also give it back. This can help balance supply and demand on the grid, especially during peak times. Imagine using your EV to power your home during a blackout or helping your local grid during an energy crunch – that’s the kind of future people in the EV world want.
Charging Infrastructure: A Key Piece of the Puzzle
One of the biggest concerns for anyone thinking of going electric is where and how to charge their car. . According to data from 2022, the UK saw a 35% increase in public charging stations. This growth is critical as more people switch to EVs.
Ultra-fast chargers, which can top up an EV in around 20 minutes, are becoming more widespread, making long-distance travel in an EV more convenient. Home charging stations are also more affordable and easier to install, allowing drivers to wake up every morning to a fully charged vehicle. Businesses are also stepping up, with companies like Shell Recharge partnering with retailers like Aldi to provide convenient charging points at popular locations.
Addressing Concerns: Making the Switch Easier
One of the themes for World EV Day 2024 is accessibility. While many people like the idea of switching to electric, there’s still hesitation. Affordability, particularly for younger and rural drivers, remains a challenge. The whitepaper found that 53% of drivers agreed that the process of switching to an EV was confusing, often due to concerns around cost.
But there are reasons to be optimistic. The growing second-hand EV market is providing a more affordable entry point for many drivers. Companies like Auto Trader are reporting a significant rise in searches for used EVs, and this trend is expected to continue as more EVs enter the second-hand marketWith more affordable options and better financing and leasing deals, going electric is becoming more attainable for a broader range of people.
The Role of Governments and Corporations
Government policies have played a significant role in accelerating the transition to electric vehicles. From the EU’s Green Deal to tax incentives in the US, governments are making it easier and more appealing to go electric. Public sector fleets are also leading by example, with many cities electrifying their bus and taxi services.
Companies like Amazon and UPS are transitioning their fleets to electric vehicles, both to reduce emissions and to save on fuel costs. According to the 2022 whitepaper, companies are increasingly recognising that electrification isn’t just good for the planet. it’s good for business.
The Road Ahead: What’s Next for EVs?
As we mark World EV Day 2024, it’s clear that there is a place for EVs. However, there are still challenges to overcome. One major hurdle is public perception, particularly around the environmental impact of EV production, especially batteries. While EVs are undoubtedly cleaner in terms of day-to-day driving, their production and disposal processes still raise environmental concerns.
Manufacturers are working on solutions. For instance, Volkswagen is investing in cleaner production processes and carbon-neutral factories. Battery recycling programs are also gaining traction, helping to address concerns around the lifecycle of EV batteries.
Celebrating a sustainable automotive industry
I think it’s important that we don’t take World EV Day as electric being the only solution to a sustainable automotive industry but rather as a day to recognise the broader shift toward sustainable transportation. It’s about understanding that every step we take towards a greener industry is a step towards a cleaner, healthier planet.
As we look to the future, it’s clear that electric vehicles will likely play a role in our transportation systems. However, I think it’s also important to keep in mind synthetic fuel, hydrogen, and other future fuels that will be developed.
Earlier this week, a group of Bridge Classic Cars members had the opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Morgan Motor Company, joined by Molly and Tony. The trip gave everyone an insight into the craftsmanship that goes into producing one of Britain’s most iconic vehicles.
One highlight was seeing the assembly process being done by hand. Our guests got to hear stories of how each car is made-to-order, allowing buyers to truly customise their dream vehicle.
Throughout the day, Molly and Tony kept the atmosphere light and fun, making sure everyone felt involved and had the chance to ask questions.
We want to thank everyone who joined us for this fantastic day out. It’s the shared passion for classic cars that makes days like these so special. We’re already looking forward to the next adventure, but for now, we’ll enjoy looking at the photos of a great day.
Volvo Cars is continuing to push forward with its electrification strategy, with five fully electric vehicles (EVs) already on the market and five more in development. Aiming for full electrification remains a central part of the company’s long-term goals, which also include achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.
However, in light of shifting market conditions and changing customer preferences, Volvo Cars has decided to adjust its electrification targets.
By 2030, instead of this being the target for a fully electric offering, Volvo now aims for 90 to 100 per cent of its global sales to consist of electrified vehicles, including both fully electric and plug-in hybrid models. The remaining 0-10 per cent will allow for the sale of mild hybrid models if necessary.
Looking ahead to 2025, Volvo Cars expects electrified models to make up 50 to 60 per cent of its sales. The company is also on track to have a complete lineup of fully electric vehicles well before the end of the decade, positioning it to fully embrace electrification as market conditions allow.
As of the second quarter of 2024, fully electric cars represented 26 per cent of Volvo’s total sales – the highest among premium car brands. The combined share of electrified vehicles, including EVs and plug-in hybrids, reached 48 per cent.
Despite these adjustments, Volvo remains dedicated to its long-term vision of full electrification. The company’s product development and investment plans are still aligned with this goal, and the recent changes are not expected to significantly impact capital expenditures.
Volvo continues to enhance its plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid offerings, ensuring a diverse range of options as it transitions toward an all-electric future. Since committing to electrification, Volvo has introduced five fully electric models: the EX40, EC40, EX30, EM90, and EX90. Notably, the EX30 is currently the third best-selling EV in Europe, based on the most recent industry data.
However, Volvo Cars acknowledges challenges in the broader EV market, including slower-than-expected expansion of charging infrastructure, reduced government incentives in certain regions, and uncertainty from new tariffs on EVs. To support the transition to electrification, the company continues to advocate for stronger, more consistent government policies.
By adjusting its strategy, Volvo Cars aims to remain flexible, ensuring it meets evolving customer needs while driving value as a business.
“We are resolute in our belief that our future is electric. An electric car provides a superior driving experience and increases possibilities for using advanced technologies that improve the overall customer experience. However, it is clear that the transition to electrification will not be linear, and customers and markets are moving at different speeds of adoption. We are pragmatic and flexible, while retaining an industry-leading position on electrification and sustainability.”
In line with its updated electrification goals, Volvo Cars is also revising its carbon dioxide (CO2) reduction targets. By 2030, the company now aims to reduce CO2 emissions per vehicle by 65 to 75 percent compared to a 2018 baseline, slightly adjusting its previous target of a 75 percent reduction.
For the interim milestone in 2025, Volvo is aiming for a 30 to 35 percent reduction in emissions per car, down from the earlier goal of 40 percent.
In the first half of the year, the company had already achieved a 25 percent reduction in CO2 emissions per vehicle compared to its 2018 benchmark, reflecting its ongoing efforts toward a more sustainable future.
The Caterham Academy is an incredible starting point for anyone who’s ever wanted to enter the world of motorsport. Launched in 1995, this series is designed exclusively for novice drivers, giving people with no racing experience the chance to be on the track in a proper race car. Over 1,300 drivers have gone through the Academy so far, making it one of Europe’s most popular novice series.
How The Caterham Academy Works
For around £38,990, you get everything you need to start your journey into motorsport. That includes a Caterham 7 – a lightweight, road-legal race car with a 1.6-litre Ford Sigma engine that generates 125bhp. Although this is completely road-legal, this is 100% a race car and can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds.
Obviously, the speed and power are exciting but, the Academy isn’t just about fast cars. Your car is specifically designed to help you learn car control with its low-grip tyres and open differential, so you can really get to grips with racing.
As well as the car, you’ll receive comprehensive support from the Caterham team. This includes your ARDS (Association of Racing Drivers Schools) test to get your racing license, a pre-season track day, and a full season of racing with seven rounds and one sprint.
The races are short, typically 20 minutes each, but long enough for you to develop your skills on a real circuit.
One of the Academy’s key benefits is its inclusive, all-in-one package. Once you sign up, the Academy includes technical support at every race, a race license, trackside guidance, and access to a community of fellow novice racers. No professional team support is allowed, which keeps things affordable and ensures a level playing field for everyone.
There is also a big focus on progression. After completing your first season, you don’t have to stop racing. Most drivers upgrade their Academy cars and move up to the Caterham Roadsport Championship, where the competition gets a bit tougher. From there, you can go even further, progressing to the 270R and 310R championships, all while keeping the same car with incremental upgrades.
The Academy Racer
In 2024, Caterham launched The Academy Racer, a video series following motorsport presenter Samantha Parker as she takes on her journey as an Academy driver. This series highlights what it’s really like to step into the world of racing, offering a behind-the-scenes look at everything from the pre-season nerves to the excitement of race day. It’s also part of Caterham’s efforts to inspire more diversity in motorsport, particularly by encouraging more women to get involved.
“Being part of the Caterham Academy this year as a racer, while doing my motorsport presenting will be a challenge, but it’s one that I am more than ready to take on, and I know I’ll have the support of the Caterham team along the way.
“We have racers who are of all ages and backgrounds competing this year, and it’s inspiring to be able to go on this journey with them this season.”
“The statistics don’t lie; last year a report found female participation currently represents on average about 10% across all categories of competition.
“A lack of female role models is often seen as a barrier for participation in the sport. ‘The Academy Racer’ video series won’t simply solve these barriers, but our hope is by documenting Sam’s journey this season we can showcase the fun, friendly, inclusive, and supportive atmosphere anyone can enjoy by entering the Caterham Academy.”
“Sam has been a role model for this brand for 20 years, so we are excited to finally have her compete in a season and continue to drive excitement for audiences as our presenter.”
Simon Lambert, Chief Motorsport and Technical Officer
The Caterham Academy
The Caterham Academy is a great opportunity for anyone looking to break into motorsport without the hefty price tag usually associated with racing. You will get race experience, a community of other drivers at the same level as you, and your very own Caterham Seven!
The Academy is looking for new drivers for the 2025 season – all the information can be found here.
Earlier today, BMW Group announced the UK’s first “motionless” wind energy system at its MINI manufacturing plant in Oxford. This system, developed by Aeromine Technologies, forms part of the company’s goal of efficient, eco-friendly energy solutions. The new system is part of a larger initiative by BMW Group to explore innovative technologies that align with its ambitious sustainability goals.
A New Era of Wind Energy
Unlike traditional wind turbines, Aeromine Technologies’ system generates clean energy without any visible moving parts. The design features wing-like vertical airfoils that create a vacuum effect, pulling air through an internal propeller to produce electricity. This bladeless approach not only minimises noise and vibrations but also reduces the risk to wildlife and nearby buildings. It’s an elegant, low-impact solution to reducing the amount of carbon released when creating energy.
The installation at the Oxford Plant is part of a broader project led by BMW Startup Garage, a programme designed to support early-stage startups focused on breakthrough technologies. Instead of acting as a venture capital investor, BMW Startup Garage takes on the role of a customer, providing startups with real-world opportunities to test and refine their innovations.
“BMW Group is always looking for innovative and efficient solutions in every aspect of the business. The BMW Startup Garage acts as a matchmaker between startups and different business units. New technologies are essential as we strive to find the most efficient solution to our requirements. This includes exciting innovations from new players.”

Complementing Solar Power
The motionless wind energy system complements existing renewable energy sources at MINI Plant Oxford, which already features one of the UK’s largest roof-mounted solar farms. Installed a decade ago, the solar array spans an area equivalent to five football pitches and generates enough electricity to power 850 homes for a year. However, during the winter months and at night, when solar panels are less efficient, Aeromine’s wind energy system can step in, capitalising on stronger wind conditions to continue producing clean energy.
“This pilot is a small but exciting project for BMW Group and complements our existing approach to purchasing renewable electricity from the national grid. We’re looking forward to seeing its potential for generating clean wind energy at BMW Group sites.”
Urs Sambale, Project Manager for Sustainability Steering at BMW Group Real Estate Europe
A Commitment to Sustainability
This installation is just one example of BMW Group’s ongoing efforts to reduce carbon emissions across all stages of its operations. From supply chains to production and beyond, the company has set clear targets to lower CO2 emissions by 2030.
This project is not only a significant achievement for BMW Group but it also has the potential for other commercial buildings across the UK to adopt similar energy-efficient technologies. As the Oxford Plant becomes a testing ground for this groundbreaking wind energy solution, it could set the stage for wider adoption of motionless wind energy across BMW Group’s global sites.
“Aeromine’s partnership with BMW Group represents a pivotal step in our mission to innovate and expand the capabilities of renewable energy solutions. Our “motionless” wind energy technology is designed to work seamlessly alongside solar systems, maximising the renewable energy output from rooftops while helping address challenges like noise, vibrations, and wildlife impact. We’re excited to see how this initial installation can lead to broader applications across BMW’s global facilities.”
With its sleek, silent design and ability to generate power in conditions where solar energy may fall short, Aeromine’s motionless wind energy system looks like it could be part of a promising future for renewable energy in urban environments.
One response to “BMW Group Installs UK’s First “Motionless” Wind Energy System at Oxford Plant”
Ian Dunn
What a great idea I’m a petrol head at heart, but appreciate that things need to change. I still don’t understand why government has not yet insisted that all new homes built should have any possible ways of saving and producing its own energy fitted, such as solar panels and wind power.

Volkswagen has announced a new partnership with Revoltech GmbH, a German start-up based in Darmstadt, with the aim of creating innovative and sustainable materials for the automotive industry. This collaboration is focused on developing a 100-percent bio-based leather alternative derived from industrial hemp, which could begin to appear in Volkswagen car interiors as early as 2028.
“In our search for new materials, we are very open to new ideas from many different industries. At Technical Development, we place a strong focus on innovative, creative and sustainable solutions for holistic, resource-saving vehicle development.”
Kai Grünitz, Volkswagen Brand Board Member for Technical Development
A Breakthrough in Sustainable Automotive Materials
The core of this partnership is the creation of a new material called LOVR™, which stands for leather-free, oil-free, vegan, and residue-based. This material is produced entirely from industrial hemp, a plant primarily cultivated for the food industry. The process involves using hemp fibres combined with a fully bio-based adhesive, forming a natural, single-layer surface material that is both recyclable and compostable. Notably, LOVR™ can be manufactured using existing industrial equipment, making it feasible for large-scale production.
“The sustainable use of resources is a key pillar in our ACCELERATE strategy and is therefore firmly anchored in our mindset and our actions. Our clear goal is to fuse customer wishes, sustainability requirements and corporate interests.” He added that the cooperation between Revoltech and Volkswagen was a good example of the benefits for start-ups and established companies to be gained from the targeted combination of their respective strengths – with the goal of getting new features ready for use in automobiles as swiftly as possible.”
Andreas Walingen, Head of Strategy at the Volkswagen brand
The hemp used in LOVR™ is sourced from regional fields, and the material itself is created from residues of the hemp industry that would otherwise go to waste. This ensures that the product is not only sustainable but also contributes to a circular economy by being fully recyclable or compostable at the end of its lifecycle. Additionally, because the production process can utilise existing industrial plants, the material can be quickly scaled up for mass production, aligning with Volkswagen’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.
“Our innovative LOVR™ surface material, that we are developing and testing for the automotive industry in cooperation with Volkswagen, is scalable and groundbreaking for sustainability in the automotive sector.”
Lucas Fuhrmann, CEO and co-founder Revoltech GmbH
Positive Reception and Future Applications
Volkswagen’s Materials Technology, Design, and Components Development departments are working closely with Revoltech GmbH to explore the potential applications of this new material within the automotive sector. Customer feedback on the initial presentations of LOVR™ has been overwhelmingly positive, indicating strong support for sustainable alternatives in car interiors.
The collaboration also involves Volkswagen Group Innovation, ensuring that a broad range of expertise and perspectives contribute to the development process. The goal is to have this sustainable material ready for use in Volkswagen vehicles starting in 2028, marking a significant step towards more environmentally friendly automotive production.
The Aston Martin Vanquish in question – ‘Y834 MWL’, has a history as impressive as its design. Initially, one of seven Vanquishes held back by Aston Martin for press use, this car had already made a name for itself in various publications before it found its way to Pinewood Studios for a special photoshoot. There, it posed alongside Pierce Brosnan, the fifth actor to play James Bond, and the resulting images were used globally to promote Die Another Day.
Adding to its story, this Vanquish was the first car to drive down the newly opened M6 Toll road in 2003, and has a certificate and receipt to prove it!
With its Tungsten Silver paint, Charcoal leather interior, and aluminium centre console, the Vanquish mirrors the hero cars seen in the film. With just 37,800 miles on the clock and having been part of a respected collection for over 20 years, it’s a car that blends traditional craftsmanship with the cutting-edge technology of its time.
The V12-powered GT, capable of nearly 200 mph, was Aston Martin’s last hand-built grand tourer. Its connection to the James Bond franchise only enhances its appeal, especially since Die Another Day played a big role in re-establishing the relationship between EON Productions and Aston Martin, ensuring that Bond continues to drive the world’s most desirable cars.
“Our October auction offers a fantastic opportunity to own a slice of movie and motoring history with this stunning Aston Martin Vanquish.
Not only was it used at Pinewood Studios for photoshoots with Pierce Brosnan for ‘Die Another Day’ but it was also the first car to drive down the M6 Toll road to commemorate its opening.
Additionally, as well as the close connection to James Bond and Pierce Brosnan, who himself owned a 2002 Aston Martin V12 Vanquish, the car is also a superb example of the marque’s last hand-built grand tourer.”
James McWilliam, sales manager at H&H Classics
Estimated sale price: between £50,000 and £70,000.

We’ve recently been contacted by James, who is on a mission to track down his late grandfather’s 1946 Triumph Speed Twin motorbike. This particular bike, with the registration FDF 110, obviously holds sentimental value for James and his family.
We know that it was sold around 2017, and while the most recent V5 was issued shortly after, it has since proven difficult to trace its current whereabouts.
This bike was one of the first post-war models that symbolised a return to normalcy after the upheaval of World War II. For James, it represents a connection to his grandfather.
We know how much a vehicle can mean to a family, not just as a mode of transport but as a strong connection to memories of yesteryear. That’s why we’re reaching out to our community for help. If anyone has any information on the current owner of FDF 110 or its location, it would be appreciated by James and his family.
At Bridge Classic Cars, we understand the deep connection people have with their vehicles, which is why we created the Nostalgia section on our website. Here, we share stories of special vehicles that have played a significant role in people’s lives. If you’ve got a tale of your own, we’d love to hear from you and help keep those memories alive.
Please, if you have any information on the whereabouts of the 1946 Triumph Speed Twin, please get in touch.
Yesterday, some of the team at Bridge Classic Cars had the pleasure of spending the day at MG Ipswich for an exclusive first look at the much-anticipated MG Cyberster. The day was a combination of the old and the new, as we joined the celebration of 100 years of MG by having some of our classic MGs in the showroom alongside the Cyberster.
A Day to Remember
We arrived in our selection of classic cars – our 1955 MG Magnette, 1968 MGC, and 2003 MG ZT V8. These all looked very much at home in the shiny showroom.
Some of our members made the trip to see the Cyberster for themselves. They, like us, were extremely keen to get a look at the car that has been making waves in the automotive world as of late. The event was a fantastic opportunity for us all to share nostalgic stories of classic cars as well as talk about the future of MG and the potential of the Cyberster.
The MG Cyberster: A Leap into the Future
The MG Cyberster is a car that not only looks stunning but also has the potential to change the perception of EVs. I think the best way of describing the Cyberster is by calling it a bold statement from MG. A statement that says they are a brand looking to the future with the understanding of the foundation built on the cars of the past.
Naming the Cyberster completely different to classic MGs, designing it from the ground up, and having subtle nods back to the past looks to make it an EV that looks and feels different to a typical EV.
At first glance, the Cyberster’s design is striking. It’s a low-slung, sleek roadster that immediately conjures up images of MG’s classic roadsters but with a very modern (futuristic?) twist. The aggressive front end, with its sharp LED headlights and aerodynamic lines, gives it a futuristic feel, while the long bonnet and sweeping curves pay homage to MG’s past.
This all-electric roadster is powered by a high-performance battery pack, delivering instant torque and blistering acceleration. The figures are extremely impressive with a 0-60 mph time of under 3 seconds and a top speed that comfortably exceeds 120 mph (GT version). But it’s not just about speed; the Cyberster is designed to be a driver’s car, with responsive steering, a balanced chassis, and a suspension setup that promises to deliver an exciting yet comfortable ride.
A Closer Look at the Cyberster: Review and Impressions
So, what’s it like to sit behind the wheel of the MG Cyberster? Even before you start driving, it’s clear that this is a car that’s been designed with the driver in mind. The interior is a blend of high-tech features and luxury materials, with a layout that’s both intuitive and stylish. The digital dashboard is a centrepiece, offering a range of customisable displays that provide everything from navigation to performance data.
The seats are supportive and comfortable and the faux-leather trim adds an extra element of style and luxury to this incredibly fast car. A personal favourite for me is the scissor doors. This seemed to be a big talking point yesterday so I’m looking forward to seeing the reaction of the first round of owners.
Looking Ahead: Test Drives and Future Events
The day at MG Ipswich was a huge success, but it was just the beginning. We’re already looking forward to a day in the next few weeks when we’ll be offering test drives of the MG Cyberster. This will be a unique opportunity for our members and guests to experience the car firsthand, and to feel the power and precision that we’ve been raving about.
We’ll be hosting a full-day event, complete with more classic cars, and of course, plenty of chances to get behind the wheel of the Cyberster.
The MG Cyberster is a bold move by MG to embrace the future while honouring its rich heritage. For those of us at Bridge Classic Cars, it’s a reminder that while we keep the past alive, we’re also excited about what the future holds. And if the Cyberster is any indication, that future is bright, fast, and incredibly exciting.

As the headline sponsor, Bridge Classic Cars was proud to play a role in this special event. One of the cars displayed on our stand was our 1990 Jaguar XJ6 which will be won later today. This is still live on the Bridge Classic Cars Competitions website. Tickets are £5.00 and the lucky winner will be found today at 4pm with all proceeds being donated to Cancer Support Suffolk.
The event itself was a big success. There was a huge range of vehicles and entertainment and attendees were treated to an incredible day.
Best In Show
One of the highlights of the event was the Best in Show competition. As part of our involvement, we had the privilege of inspecting the cars on display and selecting the winners. This was no easy task, given the quality of the vehicles present. Each car was judged not only on its aesthetic appeal but also on the care and effort that had gone into its restoration and maintenance as well as displaying it in a way that tells its story perfectly.
3rd Place – 1989 Ford Orion 1.6 Ghia
2nd Place – 1936 Austin Six Goodwood
Best in Show – 1934 Lanchester Sports Coupe
For the first time this has happened, Classic & Sports Cars by the Bridge exceeded all expectations. The turnout was fantastic, with a steady stream of visitors throughout the day. The feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their hope that this event will happen again. The success of the event is a fantastic showing of the hard work and dedication of everyone involved, from the team at Suffolk Food Hall to the Cancer Support Suffolk Team, and everyone else who played a part in the day’s success.
Looking to the future, Bridge Classic Cars is excited about the possibility of returning to this event next year. We believe that Classic & Sports Cars by the Bridge has the potential to grow into an annual event as part of the fundraising efforts for the charity. We are eager to continue our involvement, not only as sponsors but as active participants in the running of the day.
Bridge Classic Cars is proud to have been a part of this special day. If the event happens again next year -and we hope it does – we will be there, ready to support the celebration of classic cars and the important work of Cancer Support Suffolk.
A big thank you to everyone who made yesterday possible!

Doug WARREN
Just wanted to say we had a great time at this show, the location was terrific and hope to see a repeat next year. The field was ideal for far more cars to display and hopefully when the word gets around, more excellent classics and modern classics will attend. Only criticism would be holding it on a Bank Holiday Monday put a lot of people off, due to reports of heavy traffic.
MG is set to continue its centenary celebrations at the 2024 Salon Privé event, held at Blenheim Palace from August 28th to 31st. As part of these celebrations, MG will present the brand new MG Cyber GTS Concept, making one of its first public appearances after its surprise debut earlier this summer. The concept car pays tribute to the iconic MGC GTS Sebring, which achieved MG’s best-ever factory result at the 1968 12 Hours of Sebring.
Finished in classic British Racing Green, the MG Cyber GTS Concept combines its historic predecessor while incorporating modern electric vehicle technology. The car’s exact technical details are still under wraps, adding to the anticipation surrounding its appearance at Salon Privé.
Alongside the Cyber GTS Concept, MG will also display the Cyberster Roadster. This electric roadster, which has just arrived in showrooms, offers impressive performance with its dual motor version boasting 503 bhp and a 0-62 mph time of just 3.2 seconds. The Cyberster’s long-range battery allows for up to 316 miles on a single charge, with prices starting from £54,995.
“MG is a much-loved brand by so many Salon Privé enthusiasts, and I’m delighted we’re able to help continue its 100th anniversary celebrations in the regal grounds of Blenheim Palace. I’m eagerly looking forward to showcasing the fabulous new MG Cyber GTS Concept, one of the first times it will be shown in public since its world debut earlier this summer. It’s great to also showcase the MG Cyberster roadster, which is now arriving in showrooms after receiving rave reviews in the press. I’m certain our guests will enjoy helping continue MG’s 100th anniversary celebrations in style at Salon Privé 2024.”
David Bagley – Salon Privé Director
Visitors to the event will also have the opportunity to test drive the Cyberster and the all-new MG HS from August 28 to 30, though slots are limited.
The Volkswagen Golf has been named the ‘Best Car of the Half Century’ at the Best Cars of the Year – The New Car World Championships. This award coincides with the Golf’s 50th anniversary, celebrating its long-standing success as Volkswagen’s best-selling car.
The award was given at the British Motor Show, where the latest version of the Golf was displayed, which seemed to get lots of attention! The Golf’s popularity and reputation as a reliable, versatile vehicle were key reasons for its win.

The judging panel included a range of experts from the automotive world, such as car designers, engineers, journalists, and motorsport personalities. Among them were John Oates, the famous musician from Hall and Oates, and Mike Rutherford, a well-known automotive journalist who founded the awards.
“Some manufacturers are barely able to keep their ‘most important’ models in production for five years. The fact that Volkswagen has been successfully building and selling petrol, diesel, pure-electric and hybrid versions of the Golf around the world for 50 years really does say it all.
“Since the very early 1980s, when I bought my first brand new Mk I version, I’ve purchased countless Golfs or run them as company cars. With some justification, it was often described as all the car you’ll ever need. And that’s as true today as it ever was. The Golf has, since it was born in 1974, been the car for the people.”
Mike Rutherford – Automotive Journalist
Since its launch, the Golf has sold over 37 million units worldwide, even surpassing the iconic Volkswagen Beetle. The Golf has become a standard in its class, known for quality and performance, with popular versions like the Cabriolet, Golf R, and the GTI further boosting its appeal.
As the Golf celebrates 50 years, it looks like it has moved from a great car to an automotive legend!
