Finishing Touches – 1973 Jaguar E Type Series III Roadster

The Bridge Classic Cars in-house have been finishing the final pieces for the interior of Fern Grey, the 1973 Jaguar E Type Series III Roadster before it goes into the main workshop for final assembly.

Brian, our head trimmer, has got the cars handmade seats back into the car to complete that part of the interior and they look absolutely fantastic. This car is intended to be a true GT car so they are comfortable and well-padded to add to that sense of comfort while covering huge distances.

Next, Brian began fitting up the Hardura padding underneath the dashboard. Hardura is a vinyl wrapped sound deadening material used in place where it is remained exposed and is also close to the original style material used on the car.

Then, for the final piece Brian fitted the chrome stalks from the old sun visors onto the new pieces. These were then fitted up into the car and really finish of the dash and windshield surround.

Lifting the Cover – Tonneau Cover for the 1973 Jaguar E Type Series III Roadster

Our head trimmer here at Bridge Classic Cars, Brian, has been perfectly tailoring a tonneau cover to protect the interior of Fearn Grey. The 1973 Jaguar E Type Series III Roadster we have been restoring in-house.

Brian has masterfully created the new cover entirely from scratch using his wealth of knowledge and experience to produce a tight, elegant fit on the cover. Just like every piece on Fearn Grey, our restorations teams have tailored everything around the car and for the lucky owner of this stunning roadster.

There are a couple more jobs to do in our trim shop on the E Type and then it will be going into the workshop for the team to begin final assembly.

Every Angle – Trimming the Rear of the 1973 Jaguar E Type Series III Roadster

Kath and the Bridge Classic Cars in-house trim team have been continuing to fit-out of the 1973 Jaguar E Type Series III Roadster that we call Fern Grey.

Kath and Brian have been working the rear of the E Type to get the rear compartment entirely trimmed and installed into the car. Below the rear hatch is also trimmed in matching green carpet with leather accents. Kath and Brian test fit each piece multiple time to ensure that each component of the rear of the interior in Fern Grey worked together and had the right fit and finish.

After the carpeting and rear bulkhead had been trimmed, it was time to install the deck-lid which Kath had built for Fern Grey. This really finishes off the rear part of the interior and completes its bespoke look in some ways. Next up, Brian and Kath will be working their way forward into the cabin of Fern Grey by trimming the tunnel and footwells with that incredible thick green carpeting.

Must Dash – Covering the Dash of the 1973 Jaguar E Type Series III Roadster

Brian has been working on the dashboard on the 1973 Jaguar E Type Series III Roadster in preparation for the rest of the car being finished off in the workshop over the next few weeks.

Brian, one of our master in-house trim experts, has worked his magic on the dashboard of Fern Grey. Once the original covering had been carefully removed, Brian could then begin to prepare the surface for it’s new cover.

Fern Grey is a special car. Everything on the entire car (not just the interior) has been worked on by our in-house restoration teams. Brian completely recovered the dash in a new black leather piece. But, it’s not just the cover that Brian worked on. The Trim team also refurbished all the trim pieces, especially the air vents on the leading edge of the dash.

Carefully, Brian cut the new cover to accept the dash vents. Then, began to fit them up onto the panel. It looks absolutely sensational.

Ground Up – Reupholstering the Rear Seat Doors on the 1973 Jaguar E Type Series 3 Roadster

The Bridge Classic Cars in-house trim team have worked their magic yet again. This time recovering the rear seat doors on the 1973 Jaguar E Type Series 3 Roadster.

Kath, one of the trim experts, carefully deconstructed the original panels not only to find out how they were originally made but to try and save as much of the original piece if possible. Kath managed to even save the original hardware and hinges for the piece.

After refinishing the wooden cores of the panels, Kath could then start to get the new coverings fit just right for such a hand-made sportscar. After this, it was time to put the body-coloured piping onto the new material.

After the pieces had been perfectly readied to go into the car it was time to get the original hardware Kath had removed looking just as good. Kath carefully prepped each piece for a new coat of paint to go along with the rest of the panel in terms of the finish and quality.

New stereo box for the 1954 Jaguar!

Tamas has fabricated and welded together a new stereo box for the white 1954 Jaguar Mk VII. Kath has then covered it in dark red leather, ready to go in the car!

The Silver E-Type

This gorgeous 1972 Jaguar E-Type Series 3 V12 is in for a service. The client has just purchased the car and wants peace of mind that everything is in order. We’re due to check the oil levels, test drive it, supply and fit chrome strips to the top of the sill, secure wipe strips on the doors, fix the fuel gauge and asses the cooling fans as the engine runs hot.

Axel Removing And Welding

Scott has removed the rear axel on our 1968 Jaguar E-Type Series 1.5 to fit new brakes and started spot welding the seat mounts from underneath which were showing signs of wear.

E-Type Into The Paint Booth

The body of our 1973 Jaguar Series 3 Roadster has made its way to our paint shop to start on the colour prep which includes coating it in epoxy primer. You can see the before and after video below.

Brian has also been fitting the second squab cover to the frame. He’s pulled the cover over the frame and stapled the front section to the bottom of the frame. Brian then stapled the rear flap to the bottom of the frame, fitted the brackets to the base of the seat, cut holes in the sides for the brackets to fit into and then bolting the squab to the base of the seat.

He then moved onto fitting the headrest stalk to the new headrest foam, fit the cover to the foam and stapled the cover to the headrest stalk. Brian then glued the vinyl to the headrest plates and screwed the headrest plates to the headrests.

Jaguar E-Type’s New Interior And Exterior

Our 1973 White Jaguar E-Type Series 3 Roadster is undergoing a double-whammy with both interior and exterior being worked on simultaneously. Brian has been assembling the seat bases by fitting the rubber diaphragms to the seat frames, marking out the foam and gluing it to the base, gluing the centre of the seat covers to the centre section foam pieces and then applying the cover. Brian then had to fit the seat belt switch and seat runners before finishing the bases.

Matt has been working on the bonnet so that its ready to have colour. The bonnet has been stripped down and covered in Epoxy and primer. Certain areas have been painted in the body colour ready for when the bonnet is bolted back together.

Jaguar E-Type’s Leading And Drying

Our 1973 Jaguar E-type Series 3 Roadster is currently in the fabrication bay where James and Pricey are working on leading the body. This classic is in fantastic shape with very little bodywork needing to be done. Pricey tells us “I’ve never seen one this good and I don’t think I ever will. It’s amazing.”

Thanks to the dry conditions of California, this E-Type has survived the test of time without collecting too much rust, something our engineers are certainly thankful for!

Some of the external and internal parts have gone to paint to where they’ve received a layer of primer so that they’re ready for colour.

White Jaguar E-Type Leading And Trim

The Jaguar E-Type Roadster Series 3 is back in the fabrication bay for some leading. The selection of photos below show inconsistencies in the front over-riders that need addressing to obtain symmetry and leading the spot-welded joints on the shell to ensure there is no cracking or sinking of fillers and paint later on.

We’ve also received the trim pack for our E-Type which is in a sophisticated muted green:

Jaguar Etype Bonnet Shaping

James has been shrinking the bonnet skin of our 1973 Jaguar E-type Series 3 Roadster to make profile match on both sides. Once he finished converting the left hand front bumper from USA to UK spec he fitted it with rubber and re-shaping it to give an even gap on the body. This is so that the runner is not pinched or deformed once assembled.

Jaguar E-Type Handbrake Stripped

Scott has stripped the handbrake callipers and sandblasted the parts so they could be painted. Scott then started to put the rear axle together.

White Jaguar Etype In Pieces And Parts

The 1973 White Jaguar E-Type dismantling continues under the capable hands of our technician Scott who has recently been focusing on taking apart parts, cleaning and organise them ready be re-fitted. He’s then sorted through the chrome to find out what parts need repairing and re-chroming.

This stunning blue 1989 Jaguar XJS V12 has just come in. We’re due to give it a thorough check over and service before we decide its future.

Jaguar E-type Sheds More Parts

Scott has been dismantling more Jaguar E-Type elements and started to clean up and organise them ready for refitting. He’s sorted through the chrome and found out which parts needed repairing and re-chroming. Having come in as a working car, this 1973 Jaguar E-Type Roadster needs very little in the way of new parts and is simply needed to be dismantled so that Scott can clean up the parts and make small modifications.

We’ve also sent more parts off to be sandblasted.

New Jaguar Prowling Its Way To HQ

Jaguar MKVII Out Of Paint And Into Chrome

Our classic 1954 Jaguar MKVII has officially left the paint bay and gone back into the fabrication bay to have the doors re-attached as well as chrome elements such as window frames, door handles and door catches.

White Jaguar E-Type Dismantling And Rebuilding

Scott has been working on marking the caution bar to identify where it fits back into the front axel later down the line. By leaving marks on parts, trim or the car, its helps our technicians know how pieces fit back together.

In the fabrication bay, the body is being prepared to be worked on and James has been panel beating the bonnet. The dents seem to have been previously corrected by using filler which isn’t always an effective method.

The dashboard and wiring loom has also been removed from the Jaguar along with the front frame.

White Jaguar E-Type: Disassembling Continued

Scott has been removing the front suspension, all brake and fuel lines and rear axle on our 1973 Jaguar E-Type Roadster. He’s also started to disassemble the front suspension components ready to be refurbished.

Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Farewell

Last night we said farewell to our 1968 Jaguar E-Type Series 1.5 after finishing its service. The final touches included tightening the steering rack, altering the high beams as their connection was poor, and finally, we cleaned it down.

One of the other final touches for this Jag before it left our workshop was to replace the diaphragm, which was making a strange whistling sound. Although this was a brand new element, we refitted it to ensure that the whistling stopped.

White Jaguar E-Type Engine Removal Continues

Scott has been removing the engine and gearbox from our white 1973 Jaguar E-Type Roadster. He has separated the gearbox from the engine, ready for the engine to be rebuilt. He has also started to disassemble the front suspension as well.

Maroon E-Type: Sump Leak

With everything finished on our 1968 Jaguar E-Type roadster, there’s one last thing to do before we send it on its way. We found a leak in the sump which needs a new helicoil.

Mauro has also replaced the rocker cover and the brake hose pipe.

E-Type Bonnet: A Blank Canvas

We’ve now begun stripping the paint from our 1973 Beverly Hills E-Type bonnet so that it can sit in bare metal and ask as a blank canvas to be reworked and repainted. James in the fabrication bay has started to smooth out the body and will start to correct any imperfections. The bumper also needed some fabrication and welding to repair some corrosion damage.

This is the bare metal work stage that comes before the paint prep. The fabrication bay will get the whole body down to bare metal and then make sure it all lines are perfectly and there aren’t any bumps or rust in the bodywork.

As seen below, the original British Layland factory stickers are still intact on the underside of the E-Type bonnet and go to show how original this E-Type really is. Asides from the addition of the red strips and American modifications, this Jaguar is a stunning original example. Among James tasks has been to take off the American standardised bumper and weld in the hole so that the original Jaguar chrome one can be re-fitted.

Scott has also continued to dismantle the body of the E-Type too.

Beverly Hills E-Type Dismantling Continues

Scott has continued to dismantle our 1973 Beverly Hills Jaguar E-type Series 3 V12. He’s removed the bonnet, windscreen, top of the dashboard, heater box and various parts in the engine bay in readiness to get the engine ready to be removed. What was once a functional E-Type a week ago is now looking more like bare-bones however it’s exciting seeing it stripped down only to be built up brighter and better than ever before!

Almost Out The Door…

Our stunning green 1970 Series 2 4.2 had been completed and was in-fact on its way home with its owners when, just past the gate, the drivers seat broke. This is an area we hadn’t been working on as it wasnt requested but evidently was in need of some TLC. This is often the way with classic cars, bits break through usage and love but we always remind ourselves when things like this happen, that these cars have survived many decades until now!

We fabricated some new bolts and metal elements to fix the broken nut in the chair runner so that the seat now functions good as new!

New Clutch and Fly Wheel On Our Etype

Our blue E-Type has had a new lightweight clutch and flywheel fitted after its old one was showing serious signs of wear and had become dangerous. The old thrust bearing, rear oil seal and fly wheel pictured below shows how desperately they all needed renewing. The new flywheel is more responsive, being made from lighter aluminium with a steel insert for the clutch plate.

Green Machine Is Looking Lean

Our stunning green Jaguar E-Type Series 2 4.2 has almost completed its thorough service. This morning Mauro was carefully replacing the carburettor rubber that fits around the air filter. This was the solution to the engine idle not running correctly.

Mauro has also fit new brakes, new back suspension arms, new front upper suspension arm ball joint and added in some high performance silicone spark plugs that allow the engine to perform at a higher level.

Mauro has also been working on modifying the steering column to remove the extra movement. Once he’d altered the steering column, he could fit the wheel back on as shown below.

Our experienced Auto Valet technician, Colin, From Viper Auto Valets has finished the jaguar project but thoroughly cleaning this stunning motor. The nature of the paint means that once polished, it’ll look good as new.

1970 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Service

Our 1970 Jaguar E-type Series 2 4.2 is currently have its service. Mauro has been taking care of this project and is in charge of ensuring that this charming classic is back on the road asap.

Mauro has fitted new rear anti roll bar, link and bush as well as repaired the rusty fuel lines. Mauro has also been carefully reassembling and rebuilding the rear axle, fixing an oil leak by fitting new seals, fitting new brakes, discs and pads. Once he had finished rebuilding the rear axel, Mauro could fit it back in.
