Checking Over – Fixing Oil Leaks on the 1934 MG PA

As part of the scheduled checks on the 1934 MG PA, the Bridge Classic Cars workshop have been going through to get a couple of small oil leaks fixed on the car.
Jon, our technician, has gone through the bolts on the underside of the classic MG to cinch down all the gaskets and seals as we had noticed a few minor oil leaks underneath the car while it’s been in the building. With everything tightened down, the car could be run up to temperature and checked over.
Stripping Down – Strip Down and Rebuild the Carburettors on the 1972 MG Midget

The carburettors on the 1972 MG Midget have been stripped down and cleaned to get the classic convertible running properly.
Upon inspection, the team noted that the needles fitted to the carburettors were incorrect. So, new ones were placed on order. Whilst waiting for the new units to arrive, our technician Jon stripped apart the carburettors and thoroughly cleaned them through.
Once the correct needles had arrived, Jon could get them set correctly in the bodies and then could begin to refit them onto the engine of the classic MG.

The 1972 MG Midget has been in the Bridge Classic Cars workshop to have its several bits of work carried out.
Firstly, our workshop team have completely serviced the classic roadster and along with that have replaced the points and condenser in the distributor.
Next up, the team wanted to look into a small leak from the front carburettor which had been noted. When inspected, our technician Jon found one of the carburettor jet tubes had become seized in the Cold Start position and caused the leak. After gently freeing off the tube, he reassembled the unit and tested it. All ok.
Then it was time for Jon to lower the fuel tank out of the car to get to the bottom of an issue with the fuel sender. After removing the unit from the inside of the tank, Jon could carry out the necessary repairs and refit everything back into the car.

The Bridge Classic Cars in-house restoration team have been carefully stripping down the new lamps for the 1934 MG PA Midget in our workshop.
These units have been completely taken apart in preparation to be sent off to a specialist to be entirely refurbished before coming back to us and put back on the stunning pre-war sports car. Every bolt, screw and catch has been carefully removed and catalogued for this process.
We’re looking forward to seeing them when they come back and get them back on the car.
UnderCover – Tonneau Cover on the 1934 MG PA

Our expert trimmer, Kath, has been hard at work creating a crucial piece for the 1934 MG PA Midget. The Bridge Classic Cars trim shop pride itself on the high standard that every single piece is finished to and the tonneau cover for the MG is no exception.
Kath made the cover entirely by hand in order for it using a handmade template in order to get the best fit for the final piece. Each of the pieces made by our trim shop is hand-finished and made using traditional techniques and materials if needed. Kath managed to completely remake to better than the original spec.
Now, it can keep all the amazing trim work underneath safe and dry for many more years to come.
Hub of Activity – Preparing the 1934 MG PA Midget for Work on the Hubs

The 1934 MG PA Midget which belongs to our Director, Gordon, is in the workshop for our in-house teams to tackle the next jobs.
The first is our technicians have removed the hubs on the classic sports car so that our amazingly talented in-house paint team can get them to look as good as new for the car. This also gives our restoration technicians the chance to inspect and clean the hubs and spindles on the MG.
Another job on the list was to look into the battery of the car. Our team have been working on a way of better securing it into the car.
Looking Ahead – Replacing the Headlight Buckets on the 1934 MG PA Midget

Over the weekend, Gordon (one of our directors) has been working on installing the newly painted headlight buckets to his 1934 MG PA that is having some other jobs done by the in-house technicians at Bridge Classic Cars.
The original headlight buckets were chrome but Gordon want some colour matched units for his new pride and joy. So, with the replacements found they were handed over to our in-house paint and body team to perfectly match the oak green paint already on the car.
With the headlights transferred into the new buckets, they would absolutely phenomenal on this classic sportscar!

MG Midget Finished

Our 1971 MG Midget has been completed and sent back off. We replaced the faulty distributer cap and set up the timing for the carburettors and points gap. We then road tested it and found it ran perfectly.
Diagnosed Dodgy Distributer

Scott has taken a look at our 1971 MG Midget. He began by investigating the poor running issue, which he identified as being a dodgy distributor cap. After finding a cap off another car to try, Scott got it running. By played with timing and fuel mixture, Scott managed to get the MG started so that it was running nice and all seems well now. He then started doing a general check over as the customer has told us that it has sat for a while. Scott found that the diff-fill plug was really damaged and hard to remove so he had to weld a bar to it to remove and check the oil.
1971 MG Midget In For Service

This little 1971 MG Midget has come in today for a service. It’s in need of its wheels being balanced, a general check over as it hasn’t been driven in a while and an oil check.
These MG Midgets are a particularly popular and charming classic which are quickly appreciating in value. As a simple classic roadster, it is the perfect every day classic or someone’s first classic. Fun to drive, easy to work on and cheap to fix, there’s not much you can’t love about it.
The Midget has a Pit-Stop

Our 1972 MG Midget has come to us this week for a very quick pit-stop to change her tyres. Her owner bought her new tyres from our good friends at vintage tyres who got in touch with us to fit them.
Classic cars will often require more specialist equipment to change their tyres, which we at Bridge are happy to source.
Our engine expert Ady also checked the carburettors and found that one side was sucking harder than the other, causing an imbalance.
So after a quick pit-stop and a cup of tea – she’s off! Back on the road again. Happy driving little MG!
