Behind the Scenes – Photoshoot with the 1993 Rover Mini Sprite

After having its inspection and being given a clean bill of health by the Bridge Classic Cars restoration workshop, it was time to pull our latest Bridge Classic Cars Competitions prize out and shoot some photos of it.

That’s right, the next competition from Bridge Classic Cars is this beautiful 1993 Rover Mini Sprite. An iconic and well adored classic that almost everyone has a connection to in some way or another. The happy little 1275cc 4-cylinder buzzes along and the sound from the stainless steel sports exhaust bounced off the trees and concrete angles at our secure storage facility as it was taken over to our shooting location.

The tiny wheelbase and wider wheels, thanks to its upgrade to the later Sportback specification, allowed the bright white classic Mini to change direction and talk back to the driver. Letting them know exactly what was going on beneath them.

Fourth Donation – Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal TVR S2

The team at Bridge Classic Cars Competitions have sent over the latest donation from our 1989 TVR S2 competition which is in aid of the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

The total is now £31,000 which will be going directly to help support those who have been affected and displaced by the conflict unfolding across Ukraine. Every penny from this competition will be donated to the appeal and help the people of Ukraine.

Dry Fit – Checking the Fitment of the Dash on the 1970 Bristol 411

The trim team at Bridge Classic Cars have been working on test fitting the new dash panels of the 1970 Bristol 411 into the car as part of its left-hand-drive conversion by the team at our restoration workshops.

Brian, one of our trimmers, has been working alongside the restoration technicians on the conversion to the classic Bristol. Each piece has been test fit numerous times and refined over the previous weeks to make sure the fit and finish of the dash panels is perfect and flow seamlessly into the shape of the cabin.

Brian will make small tweaks to the bracketry and supports to make sure each individual piece (and the panel as a whole) sits right in the car and works together.

Refit and Repair – Working on the Boot and Kick Panels of the 1969 Bentley T1

The 1969 Bentley T1 which is being worked on by the Bridge Classic Cars paint and body team, have been joined by the in-house trim team to work on getting the classic Bentley back together.

The trim team worked on refitting and renewing the boot carpets onto the upper part of the deck lid. Along with the carpet, the team have installed the boot seal onto the lip of the boot opening.

With this part of the work complete, the trim team took a couple of pieces of the interior of the Bentley up to the trim shop to work on. The kick panels are in need of repairing and then will be fit back into the car.

Retrimmed – Dash Panel on the 1970 Bristol 411 Retrimmed

The dash panels of the 1970 Bristol 411 have been completely refurbished and retrimmed by the trim team at Bridge Classic Cars.

These pieces have been trimmed in black to match the original dash pad covering and to work around the new LHD conversion being carried out by the restoration workshop. With these pieces now finished, the team can begin to refit them into the car.

Assessment – The Workshop Team Inspecting the 1973 Volvo 1800ES

The team at Bridge Classic Cars have been going through and inspecting the 1973 Volvo 1800ES ahead of work beginning on the classic Volvo.

The owner of this unique and rare Volvo has asked our team to look into a series of works to update and refurbish aspects of the car along with some diagnostics work into some issues which have presented themselves.

We’re excited to show you the progress on this amazing project very soon.

Final Placement – Fitting and Fully Welding the Steering Rack Mounts for the 1970 Bristol 411

The steering rack mounts for the 1970 Bristol 411 have been final welding into the engine bay of the classic GT car.

As part of the left-hand drive conversion that our team are carrying out on the car, new steering rack mounts had to be made to move the rack from one side of the car to the other. Because of the forces put through the piece, the mounts have been welded onto thicker metal plates which have been grafted into the car to strengthen the piece.

Back Together – Fitting the New Cooling System to the 1952 MG TD

The workshop team at Bridge Classic Cars have been working on fitting the new cooling system into the 1952 MG TD.

Jon, one of our technicians, has fitted up the new thermostat housing for the car to make sure the wonderful 4-cylinder engine that sits at the heart of the TD is cool. Along with the new thermostat, he made up new coolant hoses which have been routed and sized perfectly for the engine bay of the TD.

Final Finish – Painting the Doors and Quarter Panels of the 1987 Mercedes 500SL

The final panels for the 1987 Mercedes 500SL have been carefully and meticulously prepared by the paint and body team at Bridge Classic Cars.

Alan, has worked on getting each panel individually prepared and then cleaned down before taking them into our in-house paint booth where they were to be finished in matching Selenit Grey to the rest of the car.

He laid down layer after layer of the deep, glossy grey to the doors and front quarter panels which marks the final major pieces of the 1987 500SL to be painted and the car will soon begin the rebuild of the car.

Headed Home – The 1995 BMW 850CSi All Back Together

The paintwork on the 1995 BMW 850CSi has been completed by the Bridge Classic Cars in-house paint and body team so it’s time for the beautiful classic BMW to head home.

The team have refinished the rear bumper in matching Oxford Green to the rest of the car. The team completely stripped the rear bumper all the way back and carried out several rounds of refining to make sure the bumper was in as good a shape as the rest of the car.

Then, it was taken into our in-house paint booth where Alan, one of our painters, laid down several layers of the dark, luscious green.

Preparing for the Next Stage – 1969 Bentley T1 Ready to have Chrome Reinstalled

The restoration technicians at Bridge Classic Cars have been working alongside the paint and body team to prepare the body of the 1969 Bentley T1 to have its chrome work reinstalled.

After its bodywork and respray, the team have to drill new holes into the body to fit the car’s brightwork onto the driver’s side front wing which was replaced as part of the work carried out.

The team carefully measured each hole by lining up the piece with the others on that side of the car to make sure this piece sat level and flowed perfectly with the piece before it.

Repairs – Repairing Parts of the 1959 Austin Healey Frogeye Sprite Suspension

The Bridge Classic Cars restoration technicians at our workshop have been working on sorting out the suspension of the 1959 Austin Healey Frogeye Sprite.

While performing road tests, our technician Dave noticed the handling of the Frogeye Sprite wasn’t behaving as it should do. So, he began to look into the issue and narrowed it down to the front suspension. Upon inspection, he found a few areas which needed attention.

One of the bolts which holds the lower arm into the mounts had a lot of freeplay and should be tight with little to no movement for and aft. Dave found the backside of the bolt had not been rotated correctly and let the nut side be tightened down and torqued correctly. With that, Dave also discovered that there had been previous welding repairs carried out to the front suspension, but in another area, a gap had opened up where the bracket had separated from the frame.

So, he welded this area back up as tight as possible which wouldn’t allow the drivers’ side control arm and track rods to move independently to the car. After that, Dave went through to recheck and torque each part to the correct specifications to get the car ready to go back out for road tests.

By Hand – Retrimming the Dash Top Panel of the 1970 Bristol 411

The dash top and panel from the 1970 Bristol 411 have been in the Bridge Classic Cars in-house trim shop for the team to refinished and retrimmed.

Brian began by carefully dismantling the piece to use the original pieces as a template and get the best fit possible for the new coverings. Any wood or foam for the dash top piece has been inspected and prepared before new material is cut and secured onto the pieces using special adhesives.

Like New – Painting the Engine of the 1969 Morris Minor 1000 Convertible

The Bridge Classic Cars in-house paintshop have been working on preparing and refinishing the engine and parts from the 1969 Morris Minor 1000 Convertible.

The restoration and paint teams have been working on carefully preparing each piece individually for Alan to refinish in the colour-matched Morris green for the engine block and head, while the accessories have been refinished in a tough, durable black.

Colour Matched – Painting the Bonnet on the 1987 Mercedes 500SL

The bonnet of the 1987 Mercedes 500SL has been taken into the Bridge Classic Cars paint shop to be painted by our in-house paint team.

The piece has been beautifully prepared and readied to go into the booth with our painter Alan to shoot the layers of Selenit Grey needed to complete the deep, glossy paintwork which has been done to the body of the classic Mercedes.

New Setup – New Carburettor and Intake on the 1986 Ford Capri 1.6

The 1986 Ford Capri has been in the Bridge Classic Cars restoration workshop to have its new intake manifold and carburettor fitted to help the classic Ford run easier.

The restoration team have been working on getting the old manifold and carburettor onto the car and checking to make sure everything else looked ok once it had been removed. The issue with running, our technician Jon had narrowed it down to an issue with the carburettor that was fitted.

Because of this and the experience of our technicians, it was decided to upgrade the carburettor to a twin-choke Weber unit. This involved having to change out the intake manifold to work with the new carburettor set-up. Along with that, Jon made the new throttle linkage and set it up to have a better throttle response and be more adjustable.

With everything fitted back onto the car, it could begin testing. As the car sat idling, Jon could adjust the carburettor to get the car running smoothly and then out on road test, the Capri ran like an absolute dream.

1954 Bristol 405

This Just In – 1954 Bristol 405 and Parts

The 1954 Bristol 405 and all the accompanying parts have arrived at the Bridge Classic Cars secure storage facility, The Hangar, while it awaits its restoration at our workshops.

The car came straight from Ireland to our storage facility where it will be safely and securely stored. The team also documented several boxes of parts and pieces for the classic Bristol which have been carefully put away in our stores department.

Back Together – Refitting the Newly Painted Rear Bumper on the 1995 BMW 850CSi

The newly painted rear bumper is being carefully refitted back onto the gorgeous 1995 BMW 850CSi which is in the Bridge Classic Cars in-house paint and body shop.

The paint and body team have been working on carefully and meticulously refitting the freshly painted piece back onto the 1990s GT car and making sure it is perfectly aligned and secured to the rest of the car.

The 1987 Maserati BiTurbo has arrived at the Bridge Classic Cars restoration workshop at our Suffolk HQ.

This beautiful 1980s Italian coupe will go into the workshop to be inspected and assessed by the restoration teams who will compile their reports to see what needs to be done on this stunning classic Maserati.

In Colour – Painting the Rear Bumper of the 1995 BMW 850CSi

The rear bumper of the 1995 BMW 850CSi has been in the Bridge Classic Cars in-house paint shop for the team to refinish it in matching Oxford Green to the rest of the stunning 1990s GT car.

Alan worked on getting the bumpers completely cleaned down and prepared to go into the booth where the team have paint matched them to the correct Oxford Green paint to match the exterior of the car.

The car looks absolutely incredible in dark green so these will just add to that after being refinished by the team.

From Scratch – Rear Seat Base on the 1955 Jensen 541

The rear seat base for the 1955 Jensen 541 has been hand-cut and finished by the in-house trim shop at Bridge Classic Cars.

Lydia has been made the whole piece and the foam work from scratch for this unique Jensen. Lydia used some of the original pieces as templates to create the bespoke interior pieces needed to make up the matching rear seat base.

Each of the pieces was put together and carefully pulled/stretched to get the best fit before being glued and stapled into the base board.

Refit – Putting the Windows on the 1969 Bentley T1 Back Together

The windows in the 1969 Bentley T1 have been getting built back up and refit into the doors by the restoration team at Bridge Classic Cars.

With the car freshly out of paint, the team very carefully have begun the process of getting everything back onto the car.

The mechanisms, glass and brightwork have all been reattached in place and tested to make sure they’re perfectly aligned with no issues binding or grabbing.

Prepped and Ready – Engine and Parts from the 1969 Morris Minor Convertible Ready for Paint

The restoration technicians in the Bridge Classic Cars workshop have been preparing and getting the engine and parts ready to be taken into our in-house paint shop.

Rob has worked on sealing up any openings in the classic 4-cylinder for our painter Chris to start work on. Each part has been steam cleaned and then hand finished in order to remove any grease or dirt which can affect the finish on the parts. Then, each individual piece is thoroughly cleaned down with spirits to get any form of grease or oil off and taken into our paint booth.

Taking Stock – New Parts and Trims Arrive for the 1969 Morris Minor Convertible

The new rubbers, parts and trims for the 1969 Morris Minor Convertible in with Bridge Classic Cars for restoration have arrived at our Suffolk HQ.

As part of the restoration, all of the perished and tarnished pieces will be replaced with the highest quality replacements that our team can source which we do with all of our restoration projects. The classic Morris Minor will be fitted with new rubber seals throughout and a series of new hoses to replace the stiff and brittle pieces that come of the car during teardown.

Along with the rubbers, the team have ordered several new pieces of brightwork to compliment the Minor once it is finished and looking just as it should do. This includes new bumpers, new over-riders, headlight surrounds and a series of new badges and handles.

The team also ordered brand new wings for the Morris Minor project to replace the originals which were removed and assessed by the fabrication and restoration teams.

Stripped Back – Preparing and Priming the Rear Bumper of the 1995 BMW 850CSi

The rear bumper of the 1995 BMW 850CSi has been taken off the car and is being prepared by the in-house restoration team in the Bridge Classic Cars paint and body shop.

Mauro has been carefully stripping, sanding and cleaning up the bumper of the 1990s GT car for the team in the paint shop to prime it. The clear coat on the piece was flaking and the colour had begun to change so the team are refinishing it to the same colour as the body thanks to our state of the art paint scanner.

After Mauro had finished preparing the bumper, it was taken into the paint booth where our painter Alan shot the piece in plastic primer and then high build primer to finish.

All in the Details – Preparing the 1987 Daimler Double Six

The paint and body team at Bridge Classic Cars have been working on preparing the 1987 Daimler Double Six for paintwork to begin.

The body team have been carefully and meticulously sanding and working each panel ahead of its appointment with our in-house paint booth.

While the team were working on each individual panel to get them perfect, they also welded up and finished off some of the small pinholes to get that flawless finish when it comes time to paint.

Each of the welds then had minimal filler work carried out just to flatten any low points caused by the finishing work.
