Classic car technician Brian has been making templates for various parts of the interior of our Bridge C-Type Replica.
He started by removing the seats and loosening the seat belts before making a paper pattern for the rear gearbox tunnel. A pattern also had to be made for the centre tunnel section.
Once he had made a pattern for the gearbox tunnel cover, Brian went on make the pattern for the front section of the gearbox tunnel.
After the gearbox tunnel, Brian made patterns for the front end of the tunnel that joins the bulkhead and for the cover around the gear shift lever.
Patterns for the front footwell sections were next to be made before the bulkhead patterns were made too.
Once all the patterns had been made, Brian glued vinyl around the edges of the gear shift surround and hand brake surround. Vinyl was then glued to the edges of the gearbox tunnel sections so no metal was showing between the covers when they are joined together.
The tunnel covers were cut out of hardura material before being trial fitted into the car.
Classic car technician Scott has refurbished a set of carbs from a Jensen 541.
We have had a number of Jensen 541s in the Bridge Classic Cars workshop so the team here is very used to working on these rare and beautiful classic cars.
These carbs were refurbished for a customer and, as you can see from the photos below, Scott has done a great job in refurbishing them.
Our 2 special Daimlers were included in the lots for sale and both ended up selling and will now move on to a new owner.
The story behind these 2 classic vehicles is a very interesting one and we hope that the future is bright for both of them.
There were lots of exciting vehicles and vehicle-related items available to buy at the auction including a number plate displaying RAD 101 (Radio 1).
This number plate was initially going to be purchased by Chris Evans when he was working at the radio station. After the sale fell through, the celebrity DJ never became the owner of the plate. However, it was successfully sold last weekend for a little over £23,000.
Despite the automotive industry drastically shifting towards electric vehicles and other green alternatives, General Motors have made an announcement that proves the V8 has not yet had its day, and there is still a place for it in the future of the automotive industry.
The Announcement
General Motors recently announced that a little under $1 billion will be invested in the development of the next-generation V8 engine.
In total, $918 million will be spent during its current plans.
$854 million is going towards the 6th generation small block while the remaining $64 million will be used to support their electric vehicle strategy.
How The Money Will Be Spent
Four General Motors sites across the US will receive a share of the investment, with each site being given specific parts of the development to work on.
The Flint Engine site, in Michigan, will receive $579 million to develop the block as well as crankshaft and cylinder-head machining. Assembly will also take place at the Flint Engine facility. GM’s Bay City site will get $216 million to build the cams and connecting rods. It will also support the Flint Engine site with block and head machining.
Defiance Operations in Ohio will get $55 million to create the block castings and to build a casting development cell for the company’s future EV strategies.
The remaining $68 million will go to Rochester Operations in New York where the V8 intake manifolds and fuel rails will be made as well as battery pack cooling lines for GM’s electric vehicles.
What We Know About The 6th Generation V8
So far, General Motors haven’t released any information or details of the new V8 or the electric vehicle components the money will help develop. All we really know right now is that the 6th-generation small block V8 will make an appearance at some point in the near future.
Despite General Motors working towards an all-electric future, we will still be hearing the roar of a V8 for a little while longer at least.
The television series ‘Magpie Murders’ (based on the novel of the same name by Anthony Horowitz ) has been picked up by the BBC and will be shown on BBC One later on in 2023.
The series was filmed in a few places around the county including Kersey and Ipswich.
Magpie Murders is a six-part murder mystery based on the character of Susan Ryeland. Susan is an editor who receives a tattered manuscript. The manuscript is from a local author who seems to be telling a different story within the main story being told.
After it was decided that the novel would be turned into a TV series, it was filmed in 2021. During filming, The Bell Inn, in Kersey, was renamed The Queens Arms and the film crew recreated the streets of London in different parts of Ipswich too.
In the series, there are various classic cars seen including classic MG’s and more.
It’s always great to see Suffolk on TV and it’s even better to see classic cars in Suffolk on TV so, if you haven’t seen Magpie Murders yet, it will be on BBC One and iPlayer very soon.

Car production in the UK fell by 9.8% in 2022 resulting in the worst production year since 1956.
Having to deal with the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic as well as a worldwide semiconductor shortage, the car manufacturing industry as a whole has taken something of a beating. However, in the UK, factory closures have only added to the problems facing the industry.
UK car production has hit its lowest point in more than 60 years
The Numbers
In 2022, 775,014 cars were produced in the UK. This was around 1.3 million less than pre-pandemic levels. Leaving the EU has seen a consistent fall in UK car production with numbers falling every year since the decision to leave in 2016.
Car manufacturers are hopeful that the industry will pick up again but they are concerned that this can only happen with high levels of investment and more car makers moving into the country. As the UK continues to fall behind in car production, it seems that without government assistance, British car manufacturing may soon be a thing of the past!
A further drop is expected by some following the American government’s announcement that they plan to offer subsidies worth billions of dollars to car manufacturers who can create electric vehicle supply chains throughout the US. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) is concerned that this will absorb a lot of international investment resulting in another hit to the UK industry.
2022 was a challenging year for UK car manufacturing. However, it is worth keeping in mind that the UK did make more electric vehicles than ever before.
Another blow came when the battery start-up firm, Britishvolt, collapsed recently after running out of money when planning to build an electric car battery plant in Northumberland. As it currently stands, the UK only has one Chinese-owned battery manufacturing facility which is based in Sunderland.
The Future Of UK Car Production
The future may seem uncertain for UK car production right now. The UK government seems to be confident that better times are coming though, suggesting they are determined to make sure that the UK remains one of the best places in the world for automotive manufacturing.
Time will only tell if this is possible but, looking at the current situation, this could be an extremely challenging goal to achieve if things don’t change very soon.
Talking Classics was recently featured in the newsletter sent to the Vint-tro community.
CEO of Vint-tro, Simon Bennett, was our guest in a recent Talking Classics, and the conversation he had with us was shared with his company’s followers.

We have been to several Anglia Car Auctions before and they have always been very successful days out.
If you are interested in any of the cars being sold at the auction, viewing is offered on Thursday 26th and Friday 27th January from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The auction opens at 9:00 am each day – admission is free, but catalogues can be purchased for £5.
If you are thinking of going to the auction, some of our previous visits can be seen here and here.
In particular, we were very excited to see one of the very first Rolls-Royce motorcars ever built. Dating back to 1905, this very special classic car is one of only three built and is believed to have been owned and driven by Henry Royce himself before it was eventually sold in 1906.
It was a great experience to see this stunning car up close and to see one of the first cars that led to Rolls-Royce being the well-known car manufacturer that it is today.
Henry Royce certainly took what he said and built his company around it:
“Take the best that exists and make it better. When it does not exist, design it.”
Our 2004 Mazda RX-8 has just arrived at the Bridge Classic Cars workshop.
As it is a new car in the workshop, it will have to undergo a full and thorough inspection by our team of classic car technicians. Once they have inspected and assessed our RX-8, a plan of action for the future will be put together.
Despite needing a good clean, there is quite a bit of excitement surrounding this future classic so it will be interesting to see what the future holds.
The Mercedes-Benz Club hosted a private and exclusive event at Bridge Classic Cars on Thursday 30th March 2023.

The White Lady is a very special car. It was the first-ever car made by the Jensen brothers all the way back in 1935.
The owner of The White Lady and friend of Bridge Classic Cars, Joerg, recently had the original number plates of this impressive car refurbished by Tippers Classic & Vintage Plates.
It is great to see the original components of this beautiful car restored and bought back to life for future generations to enjoy.
The White Lady will always be a stunning car and, with the addition of the restored number plates, she will look better than ever.
Progress continues to be made in The Atelier at Bridge Classic Cars.
We recently opened our bar for the very first time at our festive live draw in December and we are soon to be installing a brand new coffee machine too!
The bar recently got a bit of an upgrade and, as you can see from the photos below, it is looking better than ever.
The Atelier at Bridge Classic Cars will be the hub of the majority of our events throughout 2023 and beyond. Having a bar area and the facilities to host events to help bring more people together is very important to us and we hope you will all get to have a drink with us very soon.
If you want to keep up to date with our upcoming events, head over to our events page for all the details.
Obviously, everyone here at Bridge Classic Cars has a passion for classic cars. However, we love finding interesting vehicles of all varieties and, recently, we found another.
On our travels, we got to experience Bassenthwaite Lake Station. This is a cafe in a restored railway station on the former Cockermouth to Keswick line. What we were most interested in was the full-size replica steam train that looks incredible.
Bassenthwaite Lake Station is situated opposite the scenic Dubwath Silver Meadows nature reserve and is in a beautiful part of the country.
As you can see from the photos below, it is certainly well worth a visit if you share our love of classic and interesting vehicles.
On Thursday 22nd December 2022, Bridge Classic Cars hosted our festive live draw from The Atelier.
During the event, lucky winners were found for our 2005 Aston Martin DB9, our 1985 Ferrari Mondial, and our REC Tourer Watch and there was live music from The Three Chordettes (featuring our very own Molly).
The event also saw the opening of our new bar where mulled wine, beer, and mince pies were available to all those in attendance.
Everyone here at Bridge Classic Cars had a great time at our festive live draw and, as you can see from the photos below taken by Tilt Shift Creative, the night was a great success.
We will be hosting more events throughout 2023 from The Atelier at Bridge Classic Cars so make sure you keep an eye on our events page to stay up to date with what we are planning.
Yesterday the Bridge Classic Cars New Year’s Car Rally took place.
The rally began at our workshop where participants enjoyed hot drinks and the opportunity to speak with fellow car enthusiasts. Once everyone had spent some time admiring each other’s cars and had a cup of coffee, we all set off, in convoy, towards our first stop at Friday Street Kitchen
After a quick stop to admire the cars once more, the rally continued on its way to The White Hart in Blythburgh for a traditional Sunday lunch.
Our New Year’s Car Rally was a lot of fun for everyone involved and we loved seeing the more than 50 cars that took part.
Thank you to everyone who came along and we look forward to seeing you again very soon and a very special thank you to Malachy Curry for sending us some of the below photos.
We have lots more events coming up throughout 2023 so make sure you keep an eye on our events page to keep up to date with what we will be doing in the future.
Most classic cars come with a unique history of memories and stories that date back decades and even multiple generations. A lot of the time though, these stories and these memories are very personal to the current and former owners of the vehicles.
However, from time to time, the story of certain classic cars extends beyond the owners and becomes a truly unique tale that can be understood and felt by many.
A Marriage Standing The Test Of Time
When married couple, Mr and Mrs Stannard from Lowestoft in Suffolk purchased a car together, they fell in love with their 1964 Daimler V8 250. After around a year of ownership, the couple decided that an additional car was needed so Mr Stannard set out to purchase another vehicle.
While he was on the look out for a new car, he found one that he really liked. It was another 1964 Daimler V8 250. After the sale was complete, he took the car home ready to meet its new garage-mate of the same age, make, and model.
It was only once he had driven the car home that Mrs Stannard noticed something extremely special about his purchase.
She saw that one Daimler V8 250 had the registration WVG 564 and, surprisingly, the other Daimler V8 250 had the registration WVG 565.
An Unlikely Story
It’s not every day that you see two classic Daimlers side by side. It’s even more rare to see two classic Daimlers side by side that are the same age and the same model with sequential number plates. What’s even rarer still is to see two Daimlers like this that belong to a husband and wife.
An accidental purchase of the second vehicle certainly adds another level of intrigue to this unlikely story. When Mr Stannard set out to purchase the second vehicle, had no idea that the car he ended up buying had an almost identical registration to the one he and his wife already owned.
2 1964 Daimler V8 250s – Kept In 2 Nearby Garages Waiting To Be Reunited
The couple would eventually park their two vehicles in the two separate garages. Despite being close by, the cars would be kept in their individual garages until the team here at Bridge Classic Cars unearthed them towards the end of 2022.
On a cold December morning, the team got on the road to meet the couple who had owned the cars for a large part of their lives.
It was obvious that these cars hadn’t been seen for a while as Mr Stannard bought a hammer with him just in case the garage door wouldn’t open with the key!
While the team were preparing the cars to be removed from their concrete shelters, the couple happily shared photographs and memories of times spent with the two vehicles. Young children were seen in some of the photos alongside one or both of the classic Daimlers. As it turned out, the young girl in one of the photos was the couple’s daughter who is now in her fifties and has been married for more than twenty years!
As the cars were being slowly and very carefully moved, one of the owners handed us a file full of even more history and details of their story so far.
Upon closer inspection, the name of one of the former owners stood out from the rest. Winston Churchill is listed as someone who has once owned one of these 1964 Daimler V8 250s. While it doesn’t appear to be THE Winston Churchill but, instead, a local Lowestoft resident with the same name, with the story that these two cars keep telling, perhaps it wouldn’t be too farfetched for this to be investigated even further.
The original service book and documentation were with the cars highlighting just how much this couple and their previous owners cared for them.
A Team Effort
Several members of the Bridge Classic Cars team were involved in the successful removal and loading of the two Daimlers.
It took a lot of time, care, and skill to move the two cars without any significant issues. Each one was slowly and carefully removed from its garage and loaded into our trailer ready to be driven for around an hour back to our storage facility at former air base, Bentwaters.
Both of these 1964 Daimler V8 250s now sit in a much larger garage than they have been used to for the past decade or two. They are surrounded by a wide range of other classic vehicles in various states of restoration in our secure storage building known as, The Hangar.
The Future is Unclear for Our 2 1964 Daimler V8 250s
There isn’t a set plan in place for the future of these two almost identical Daimlers. One thing we do know for certain though is that it seems right that they are kept together whatever the future may hold.
Both vehicles clearly need to undergo a full restoration. Extensive work is required on the interior and exterior, and it is clear that a lot of mechanical work will be a necessity too.
With no clear plan ahead of them, for now, our 1964 Daimler V8 250, registration WVG 564 and our 1964 Daimler V8 250, registration WVG 565 will stay safe and secure in The Hangar. With such an incredible story to already tell, there might still be a few more chapters left before the story completely comes to an end.
The marketing team here at Bridge Classic Cars are getting a bigger office!
As the business continues to grow and develop, more space is needed to help us operate as effectively and as successfully as possible.
As you can see from the photos below, the office extension is making good progress. With the floor going down in the next couple of days and the windows being installed shortly after, it won’t be too long until the larger marketing office space is ready for business!
The Rolls-Royce & Bentley Enthusiasts will be hosting a private and exclusive event at Bridge Classic Cars on Sunday 16th April 2023.
Members of the club will have the opportunity to have a tour of our workshop as well as enjoy refreshments and spend some time with like-minded fellow Rolls-Royce & Bentley Enthusiasts.
