H&H Classics recently hosted an auction at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford. Craig and Gordon were in attendance and got to see first-hand that it was a very successful one. Almost 100 lots were up for sale and generated around £2 million with an expected sale rate of 70% (pending post auction deals).
One car Craig and Gordon were very interested in was Sir Elton John’s former Aston Martin DB7. Originally estimated to sell for £23,000–£27,000, it ended up selling for £40,250 (not to us unfortunately).
The most expensive sale was a left-hand drive 1986 Aston Martin V8 Volante, which sold for an undisclosed six-figure sum shortly after the auction. Other top sellers include a 1965 Bentley S3 Continental Flying Spur, which sold for £90,000, and a 1956 Mercedes-Benz 190SL that got a new owner for £81,000.
Another sale was in the form of a 1970 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Litre Coupe. Expected to sell for £50,000–£60,000, it actually sold for £73,600. Our 1977 Ford Granada MK1, which has been owned by one family since new, sold for just under £30,000. At first look, this might be one of the most expensive Granadas ever sold at auction!

“At a time with so much global uncertainty and volatility, it’s incredibly pleasing to achieve such strong results on behalf our trusted vendors. The sales show that demand for classics around the world remains healthy and cars with sensible estimates will achieve strong levels of interest”.
James McWilliam, sales manager at H&H Classics
Other sales included:
- A 2003 Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG, one-owner from new, sold for £19,969.
- A hand-built 1948 Alvis TA14 Supercharged Special reached £38,812.
- A non-running 1996 BMW Alpina B3 3.2, sold to benefit the British Heart Foundation, achieved £15,188 after coming out of long-term storage.
Even no-reserve lots saw good levels of success, including the oldest car of the auction, a 1900 Locomobile Type 2 Spindle-Seat Runabout, which sold for £29,812.
