Service And Repairs

Jonn carried out a service on our 2018 AK Sports Car, initially addressing a non-starting issue. He removed the spark plugs, cleaned and regapped them, then refitted all four. The engine then started successfully. After warming the engine, he moved the car onto the ramp to begin inspection. During checks, he found the alternator regulator was not functioning correctly; at times it failed to charge, while at other times it overcharged, with the volt meter reading fluctuating erratically.

He inspected and topped up all fluid levels as needed. The car was raised on the ramp to drain the oil and remove the filter. The area was cleaned, a new filter fitted, and a visual inspection of the underside carried out. Jonn greased the propshaft and driveshafts, inflated all tyres, and confirmed the brakes were visually in good condition. He refilled the engine with new oil, ran and tested it, topped up as necessary, and placed the remaining oil in the boot. The number plates stored in the boot were then fitted in preparation for the MOT.

Jonn removed the washer tank, thoroughly cleaned it, refitted it, and cleared the connecting pipes. He refilled the system and confirmed the washers were operating correctly, then cleaned the wiper blades. He also investigated an inoperative reverse light. After confirming the bulb was sound, he raised the car and inspected the reverse light switch, where he found loose contacts. These were refitted, and the system was tested successfully.

Further work included removing the heated oxygen sensors from both exhausts, cleaning and flushing them with brake cleaner, then blowing them through and refitting. He also discovered the wire for the engine temperature gauge was disconnected and reconnected it. A fuel pressure check at the rail showed a steady 4 bar with the ignition on, and pressure remained stable while running.

Following these repairs, Jonn conducted a road test. The car displayed a slight hesitation at low revs and speed, resembling a minor misfire, but revved cleanly and performed strongly throughout the range, pulling well in all gears.
