On the 15th November 2025, six driverless race cars will compete in a fast and futuristic final at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. These cars don’t need drivers because they’re completely autonomous. That means they use computers, sensors, and software to drive themselves (and they can drive really fast!)
It’s part of the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League, or A2RL for short. And it’s going to be the biggest race of its kind in the world.

The Fastest Robots on Wheels
Eleven teams from around the world competed to qualify, but only six made it to the final. The teams come from places like Germany, Italy, Singapore, and the UAE. They had to prove that their cars weren’t just fast but also smart, safe, and reliable.
One of the teams, Unimore Racing from Italy, broke a track record with a lap time of just 58.87 seconds. That’s even faster than a professional racing driver who tested the same circuit!
The Six Teams in the Grand Final Are:
- TUM Autonomous Motorsport (Germany)
- Unimore Racing (Italy)
- Kinetiz Racing (Singapore & UAE)
- TII Racing (UAE)
- PoliMOVE (Italy)
- Constructor University Racing Team (Germany)
Brains Behind the Speed
These cars don’t need steering wheels or pedals. Instead, they use AI, short for Artificial Intelligence. The cars “see” the track using special sensors and make decisions extremely quickly so they can drive fast, avoid crashes, and overtake other race cars.

What Else Is Happening?
The race is part of something called Abu Dhabi Autonomous Week. This is a whole week focused on robots, AI, and futuristic vehicles. There will be exhibitions, summits, and even a race between a real Formula 1 driver and an autonomous car. That driver is Daniil Kvyat, and he’ll be going head-to-head with a robot car in a special Human vs AI demonstration.
