Running Issues – Toyota Hilux

While diagnosing a running issue on our 1983 Toyota Hilux, Steve identified a misfire on cylinder number one, tracing it back to a hairline crack within the distributor cap that ran from the number one outlet toward the centre. This fault was allowing the spark to track incorrectly, so he replaced the cap to restore proper ignition performance.

He also found that the choke vacuum diaphragm had failed, with a hole allowing fuel to pass through unchecked, which had been causing the engine to run excessively rich. Steve replaced the faulty diaphragm, correcting the mixture issue and improving overall running.

With the mechanical faults addressed, he added 20 litres of synthetic fuel before cutting new wiper rubber inserts to length and fitting them to ensure the system operated cleanly and effectively.
