Our restoration workshop is always a busy place to be, but recently our classic car technician Jon has been working his magic on the 1966 Daimler 250 V8 as it is prepared to head off on its new life with its excited new owner.

‘Refit under dash trim on the drivers side. Spray glue sound proofing to hold in place and refit panel. Strip and clean carb pistons and suction chambers. Slacken throttle mount to aid removal. Check pistons free in chambers and set jet depths to 1mm. Rebuild and repeat for other carb. Resecure throttle mount. Check choke operation etc.’

‘Refit alternator which wasn’t faulty apparently when tested. Connect and mount up. Adjust belt and test. Now working as intended. Ignition light ok.’

‘Take outside and warm up. Tune up and refit air filter. Road test. Align steering wheel and secure . Get John to come with me to listen for noise. Return and investigate.

Refit steering wheel centre horn push and test. Raise on ramp and lubricate rear springs and suspension. Noise sounds like dry bush or spring. Spin nearside rear wheel and traced noise to brake pads rattling. Tighten securing clip to stop noise. Get off ramp and bounce car which is now quiet. Road test again and much better. Still slight noise but much better.’
