Our technician Jon, has been working on the 1959 Jaguar MkIX. As part of the work on the car, Jon has been going through and making sure that everything is just so on the elegant luxury saloon.

‘Continue repairs. remove boot handles and inspect for reason both don’t lock. Part missing from barrel to lock handle. Found a similar bit from old door handle. File down to fit and test. Fit handle and test, ok. Repeat for other handle but unable to find bit so make new one. Test and adjust until it works. Refit handle and check both lock and unlock and open. Grease locks and refit.’

‘Refit boot trims and secure. Test boot handles again. Investigate sunroof not opening. Found ha dle partially seized but it doesn’t appear to lock in place anyway. Found 2 large grommets placed between headlining and sunroof to hold rear up. Remove and roof drops and now slides but only about 3 inches before it hits the roof. You can see where it scratchd the paint previously . Refit grommets and return to closed position. Roof would need complete removal to fix and mask around lower edges and cover overspray with underseal. Lower ar onto block to compess suspension and refit both top ball joint rubbers and secure in place with lock wire.’

‘Remove air filter. Remove intake plenum. Inspect carbs and pipework. Tighten jubilee clips all round engine bay including fuel pipes. Tighten banjo bolts, all tightened. Run up and check for leaks, all looks OK. Refit intake plenum.’
