The 1969 Aston Martin DB6 Volante, which is currently in the fabrication shop under the watchful eye and steady hands of our technician Pete, has been moving forward at a good rate to get this iconic convertible back to its former glory. In this part of the cars restoration journey, Pete has been working through the lower sections of the car to make sure everything is up to our very exacting standards.

”Passenger side cut out where previous repairs have been made poorly, this opened up access to check the steel sill and surrounding areas where the alloy body meets the steel sub chassis.

Again more evidence or poor repairs, in this case finding an eight inch section that had been replaced…. But not welded… The mind boggles as these are close to the mounts for the seat belts and roof hydraulics, there were other half complete welds all around this side that have now been chased out and seam welded.

Back end of the arch close to the tail of he car has also been “repaired” by filling it with a black sticky goo that resembled roof and gutter sealer, this has ow been removed, the area fully cleaned and rust cut out, replaced with new steel, welded and seam sealed correctly.

Unfortunately the same repeated on the drivers side rear inner arch too, so this was also replaced correctly.

Inner arches have been fully wire wheeled back to metal work removing old rust protection and checking there were no more poor repairs, thankfully none were found so these have now been stone guarded up to the repairs while we await genuine red oxide primer to replicate factory original.

The new panel has been fabricated for the passenger side ready to weld in.”
