Renault is preparing to open a new heritage centre in 2027 at its Flins-sur-Seine site near Paris. Before the opening, though, the brand is selling 100 historic models from its extensive private collection.
On Sunday 7th December 2025, the auction, organised in partnership with Artcurial Motorcars, will feature more than a century’s worth of car evolution. All of the cars being offered are duplicates within Renault’s collection, meaning that the company will retain at least one example of every model from its 125-year history.
The sale will include around 100 vehicles plus a selection of memorabilia, including scale models, driver suits, wind tunnel mock-ups, and vintage workshop clocks. Over 90% of the lots will be offered with no reserve.
Celebrating 125 Years of Renault
One of the earliest cars going up for sale is a 1901 Type D that still runs! There is also a rare 1933 bus, and replicas of the very first Renault, the Type A from 1898, reimagined with both petrol and electric drivetrains for the brand’s centenary in 1998.
The auction also includes parts of Renault’s motorsport heritage. Around twenty Formula 1 cars from the groundbreaking turbo era (1981–1985) will be for sale, including the RS01, Formula 1’s first turbocharged car, as well as race-proven machines driven by Jean-Pierre Jabouille, Alain Prost, René Arnoux, and Patrick Tambay. Interestingly, the RE40, winner of the 1983 Belgian Grand Prix, will be part of the collection.
From the endurance side of things, the Alpine A442 in its original chassis 0 configuration will also be available. This car raced at Imola, Nürburgring, and Le Mans in the mid-70s. If you’re a rally fan, models like the R5 GT Turbo Bandama could be yours too.
Icons and Oddities
The auction also includes classics such as a restored 4CV, a Clio Williams in excellent original condition, a police-liveried R5, and the Floride “Disney”. A handful of Alpines will feature too, including the A610 Evolution and a V6 Turbo.
In addition to the cars, the auction will also offer a range of rare Renault artefacts, including Formula 1 engines (including the V6 Turbo EF15 used by Ayrton Senna in 1986), scaled design studies of concept cars and production models, and creations like a 1950s Liberty Ship export model and one of only three ‘Reinastella’ flying saucers developed for Eurodisney.
“We are honoured by Renault’s confidence in us and excited to be organising an auction that will be remembered as a major event. We are offering collectors a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: the chance to become a curator of this rich heritage.”
Pierre Novikoff, Vice-President Artcurial Motorcars
