Polestar has officially released the production version of the Polestar 5, a four-door electric Grand Tourer based on the Precept concept. Staying extremely close to the original 2020 show car, the Polestar 5 delivers on the brand’s promise of cutting-edge design, performance, and sustainability.
Two versions are now available to order in the UK:
- Polestar 5 Dual motor Launch edition – £89,500
- Polestar 5 Performance Launch edition – £104,900
Both feature a bespoke bonded aluminium platform, 800V electrical system, and a choice of dual-motor powertrains with outputs of up to 650kW (871bhp) and 1,015Nm of torque. The Performance model accelerates from 0 – 60mph in just 3.1 seconds, so it is particularly fast!

Polestar 5 Look
At nearly five metres long, the Polestar 5 has a clean, aerodynamic profile influenced by the aviation industry. It has a Kamm-style tail and SmartZone front grille housing radar and sensors. Standard Pixel LED headlights sit above gloss black or Shade lower body cladding, which reduces the visual height of the car.
Despite the car’s low 142cm stance, interior space is actually very generous, thanks in part to the use of a digital rear-view mirror and virtual rear window, moving the rear structural header behind the rear passengers. You also get an expansive panoramic glass roof, which is over 2 metres long. This obviously adds a very spacious feel to the cabin.

Interior
The cabin of the Polestar 5 features a 4+1 seating layout, with front sports seats designed in partnership with Recaro. They’re available in standard Charcoal MicroTech or optional Bridge of Weir Nappa leather. From a sustainability perspective, this is great news as it is a natural by-product of the food industry.
The rear seats follow a similar form and include heating, ventilation, massage, and individual recline options. A fold-up armrest adds a fifth seat when needed, too.
Natural and recycled materials are used extensively, from flax-based composites in the seatbacks and door panels to recycled fishing nets in the carpets. The “foot garage” in the floor provides extra space for rear passengers by carving space into the battery pack.

Tech and Equipment
A 14.5-inch portrait touchscreen running Android Automotive OS with Google built in sits at the centre of the dash, complemented by a 9-inch digital driver display and a 9.5-inch head-up display. Audio comes from a 10-speaker standard system or an optional 21-speaker Bowers & Wilkins setup.
Laser-line ambient lighting wraps the cabin, and Active Road Noise Cancellation helps maintain a calm interior if you prefer that.
Engineering and Performance
The Polestar 5 is built on a hot-cured bonded aluminium platform, designed in-house to deliver high torsional rigidity and reduced weight. The 112kWh battery (106kWh usable) is structurally integrated, supporting rapid 800V DC charging at up to 350kW. You can charge the Polestar 5 from 10% to 80% in around 22 minutes.
The Dual motor version produces 550kW and 812Nm, with a 0 – 60mph time of 3.8 seconds and a WLTP range of up to 416 miles. The Performance model boosts output to 650kW and 1,015Nm, hitting 60mph in 3.1 seconds and offering up to 351 miles of range.
Both use Brembo brakes (with Swedish gold callipers on the Performance), adaptive damping, and specially developed Michelin tyres across 20-22-inch wheel options.

Driver Assistance and Safety
Standard safety features include 11 vision cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, radar, and a driver monitoring system. Polestar’s Pilot Assist handles lane positioning and speed at up to 93mph, while eight airbags and occupant-detection radars tailor protection in the event of a collision.
The Polestar 5 is available to order now in launch markets. Full specifications can be found at polestar.com/uk.
Personally, I think the new Polestar looks great, and it sounds like it will be an incredible thing to drive.
