Jon, one of our amazing restoration technicians, has been getting the 1996 Bentley Continental R checked over and ready for its new life with its new owner. So, here’s the story of how he got this 1990s luxury GT ready to go.

‘Carry out PDI. Top up levels etc. Raise and inspect as we think it might have a leak. Found drip from cover on offside front. Remove and found cylinder weeping onto tray. Clean off and inspect. Minor drip when pedal depressed. Found literature that states this is normal for this system. Clean cover and refit. Lhm levels all OK. Check and Inflate tyres. Torque wheel nuts and refit centre caps. Take outside and carry out road test. Few issues to address. . Get John to drive to confim. Get on 4 post ramp for check.’

‘Glue and refit offside rear centre cap as Nick found it down the yard. Remove engine cover and idle speed co trolley valve. Clean out and blow through. Refit and connect. Run up briefly seems to I’d smoother. Raise and I spectacular for knock. Unable to replicate ateinramp. Secure power steering pipe with cable tie. Lube bump stops both sides. Needs test but weather has other ideas today.’

‘Bleed fronts brakes. With Johns help. Run system and open front nipples in turn on each caliper. Got air out both front, front calipers (2 per wheel). Top up tank and refit cover. Top up bottle and put back in boot. Needs testing. Take outside and top up LHM. Refill bottle and put back in boot. Carry out road test. Much better. Brakes good and car brakes straight. Refit trim piece to interior mirror.

‘A small chip on the drivers side door and b post was painted and polished up.’
