Caterham has confirmed a new engine supplier for its 2026 Academy Championship. From next year, Caterham Academy cars will be powered by a 1.3-litre turbocharged HR13 engine developed by Horse Technologies.

The HR13 four-cylinder engine will replace the long-serving Ford Sigma unit, which has been part of the Academy series since 2008. With bespoke tuning, the new engine will deliver 130bhp and 176Nm of torque at 5,150rpm.

“The Caterham Academy has successfully introduced more than 1,400 rookie racing drivers to motorsport in the UK over the last 30 years. We’re very pleased to confirm our new partnership with Horse Technologies and look forward to working with their team on the introduction of this new turbo engine to our competitive rookie series from next season.”

Horse Technologies

Horse Technologies is a division of Horse Powertrain, a global joint venture between Renault, Geely, and Aramco. The company focuses on cutting-edge hybrid and combustion powertrains and also manufactures gearboxes, motors, batteries, and power electronics.

“Caterham is an iconic brand in the automotive and racing world, with an incredibly rich history. Our team at Horse Powertrain and Horse Technologies are very excited to be working with them for the 2026 Academy Series. Supplying our HR13 engine for the championship is a unique opportunity for us to play a part in discovering the next generation of racing talent.”

Matias Giannini, Chief Executive Officer of Horse Powertrain

Caterham’s Academy Championship, first launched in 1995, remains one of Europe’s largest factory-supported racing series aimed at complete beginners. More than 1,400 drivers have joined the world of motorsport through the program.

If you’re interested, the academy package includes a road-legal Caterham Seven, a full calendar of races and sprints, driver training, and comprehensive support throughout the season. Finance options are now available for 2026 entries via Caterham Financial Services, and with spaces limited, interested drivers are encouraged to sign up soon.
