Every car has a story – that is an unequivocal truth. At some point, someone walked into a showroom and ordered that car from new. They then spent weeks, if not months, waiting in anticipation of meeting their new car in the metal. Our 1969 Aston Martin DB6 Volante is no different.
Ordered new through HR Owen in London, at height of the summer in 1969, the car (DBVC/3736/R) was spec’d in Volante configuration (the DB6 was the first Aston Martin to wear the Volante name to designate being a convertible) in Dawn Blue with Grey Connolly leather and matching carpet and hood. Among its optional extras, were the Volante specification along with power steering, chrome wheels, three eared spinners, power operated aerial as well as front seat belts. Some of the other tales this form tells, and give us insight as we bring the car back to its former glory, is that it was originally fitted with Avon whitewall tyres from the factory, gorgeous and iconic Smiths gauges (in MPH of course) and the headlamps have possibly the greatest name that we have ever come across whilst researching the history of a car ‘English Lightning’.
We know that at some point the cars interior was changed from Grey to Beige, along with the carpets and roof being changed over from Grey to Blue. There are countless records in the cars wonderfully presented history file which we will be looking into to piece the story of DBVC/3736/R as its restoration progresses.
