Jonn removed the distributor from our 1969 Daimler 250 V8 so he could fit new points and a condenser. As not all of the required parts were available, a wire was made to connect the condenser to the first set of points and then to the second set. Upon checking continuity, a short to earth was detected.
The points were removed, and fibre washers were fitted underneath before refitting and adjusting them to the correct gap. Continuity was rechecked and confirmed to be in order. The distributor was then refitted to the engine, with all necessary connections made before securing the cap. Initially, only one terminal was present from the coil negative, but a wire from the loom was found tucked away. Continuity was checked from the coil into the loom and back to the discovered wire, confirming a good connection. However, upon making the connection, the terminal on the new wire to the condenser broke off.
The broken wire was removed, and the terminal was resoldered. The wire was then refitted to the distributor, and with the ignition turned on, checks confirmed everything was functioning correctly. The cap was refitted, and the engine was briefly started, running without issues. The vehicle was taken outside for a road test and then returned to the workshop, where the carburettors were enriched. A final test was carried out and the engine now revs more freely.
