Pete continued with the rectification of poor previous repairs and corrosion on our 1969 Aston Martin DB6 Volante. The rear arch tails have now been fully welded, along with the lower inner rear arches. These areas were treated with a factory-standard red oxide primer to bare steel, using a modern epoxy-based equivalent that has been colour matched to maintain the original appearance. A stone guard undercoat was then applied over the primer for added protection.
Attention then moved to the passenger side front sill area, which was cut open to reveal another example of substandard earlier work. The inner sill had been tack welded without being properly seam welded, an unacceptable approach, particularly on a vehicle of this calibre. Pete corrected this by fully welding and sealing the sill to the appropriate standard.
He also straightened and flattened the rear boot seal flange, which had sustained significant damage. The mounting points in this area were tidied up, and the body-to-chassis wire welds were completed to secure the previous external alloy body repairs.
